Celtic have triggered a year's extension on Izaguirre's contract. That's a great piece of business, we need back-up for KT and Izaguirre seems to be more than happy to be that.

Solid back up for tierney, brilliant news :)
09 May 2017 17:54:40
nothing exciting about it.

Great news but I hope that isn't an indication that we fear losing KT.
{Ed007's Note - Relax, KT will be a Celtic player for the foreseeable future. He has told the Club and his agent that he has no intentions of leaving Celtic and he has told a couple of people that he'll be here for The 10 by which time he'll still only be turning 24 that summer.}

It might not exactly be exciting James but it's good continuity. Izzy is about as good as I would expect a back-up to be, whilst being content.

Spot on jim tim.
09 May 2017 22:00:16
i like izzy jim, but its not exactly moving the club forward is it?
09 May 2017 22:01:22
its not going to move us any further forward jim, he should be shown the door along with the rest of the dead wood.
09 May 2017 23:22:19
As long as we sign a left footed quick cb in the summer that can do a job there if needed Izzy is fine for a 3rd choice backup.
09 May 2017 23:36:27
Izzy is still a cracking player. He played for 3 months when KT was injured and was excellent. To call him 'deadwood' is laughable. Would people rather we let him go then spent money on back-up to KT that could be better used elsewhere? Need some continuity in the squad if we are to hit the ground running for the qualifiers.

Agree with LM67. Still unsure about someone who is happy to be back up but I suppose if he's getting a decent wage and his family is happy. gen up. that's all that matters. Crackin' player. Final ball is shit, but hey hoh! definitely a Bhoy forever!
10 May 2017 09:09:31
hes done at 31, no need to spend just promote one of our own youngsters, nothing laughable in saying izzy's best days are behind him its a fact, i like izzy but we need to build for the future.
10 May 2017 09:08:20
It's not particularly moving the club forward James, no. But KT will. And I wouldn't put Izzy in the 'dead wood' bracket because he is serving a purpose, albeit as back up to KT. Like LM says, there wouldn't be much point in going out getting a LB as promising as KT, mainly because we couldn't afford to unless KT was sold; and nobody would want that surely. Let's put that money towards a priority, not a LB. A year extension is good in my eyes, and hopefully over the next season a youngster might develop and get a chance to show that he could be understudy to KT. Then Izzy could be shown the door.

Not sure if KT was injured for 3 months next seasono it's fair to expect Calvin Miller to step in at short-notice.
This makes sense to me - Izzy loves the club and he's not on a big wage. I'm sure this coming will season will see Miller get more exposure and hopefully enough for him to cement his place in the first team squad.
Spending a couple of million on someone we don't realistically expect to challenge for KT's place would be naive.
{Ed007's Note - I'm hoping Rodgers has seen the error of his ways regarding Miller at LB, he's still listed as a striker on the official site so fingers crossed that he isn't going to be 'Brendaned' as they called it at Liverpool where he made some bizarre choices regarding young players.}
10 May 2017 14:51:25
young ralston could easily move across from right back to left back if kt was injured.
10 May 2017 16:48:31
I haven't seen a great deal of Miller but have heard and read lots of promising stuff. Moving a telented young forward to full back was bizarre to say the least. The fact Miller has been playing as a left forward again with the youths suggests that one has been knocked on the head.
