Thought more would actually be made of the fact we have WON a game in Europe

Believable8 Unbelievable2

Why ? That's 2 now this season. 100% record in spl and cl. Fantastic start. Well done to Neil and the team.
Yorkiebhoy.

Agree0 Disagree0

We won last week as well incase you don't remember

Agree0 Disagree0

Nah, the Hacks at the media can't bring themselves to praise us for a great performance. They were desperate to see some Celtic failure last night so they could throw some Pro-Rangers spin on the article this morning saying the demise of Rangers and lack of competition is what caused us to lose to Helsinki. Always glad to throw a spanner in their works.

Agree0 Disagree0

Or even the fact that this young team and young manager seem to be growing with each passing season.

To be able to pull on Kayal when Wanyama got sent off while Stokes and Ki not taking part shows some real strength in depth.

That is before considering the likes of Sedish International Lustig.

I think the real problem with Rangers liquidation is that it has allowed them to escape with a clean death rather than with what would surely have been consistent torture at the hands of this Celtic setup over the next number of years.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well don't read the Daily Record then - too focused on the fact McCoist may sign another contract. The Patient

Agree0 Disagree0

I take the point - it was an away victory.
Obviously it was not 'good news' for local Ger-nalists and SLY Spots couldn't even be bothered to check their facts, reporting us going straight into the groups originally. Who needs them....'For we only know that there's gonnae be a show.....'

The 5 possible opponents for the Champions League playoff tie:

CFR 1907 Cluj (ROU)
Helsingborgs IF (SWE)
NK Maribor (SVN)
AEL Limassol FC (CYP)
Hapoel Kiryat Shmona FC (ISR)

Not sure who exactly we want to avoid. Helsingborgs had a pretty convincing win in the previous round but really we should be good enough to beat any of them.

LondonBhoy

Believable7 Unbelievable3

Maribor. That's the one we want.

Agree0 Disagree0

You don't want Cluj. Former CL team and could be a massive upset. Helsingborgs is tricky, as well. You want any of the other three, Shmona for ease compared to the others, however it's Israel and could have problems for the players and fans and Maribor could mean we beat a team Rangers couldn't. Greg.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd say Hapoel the rest seem more regurarly in Europe

Agree0 Disagree0

I would like to avoid Cluj as well. If u take a look at their current squad on wikipedia you can see that they would be a tough team to beat. Hapoel sounds like the easiest one, although I would fancy our chances against all of the others.

Agree0 Disagree0

My preferred order:

Helsingborgs
Maribor
Hapoel Kiryat Shmona
AEL Limassol
CFR Cluj

Limassol will be way too hot to play in and could make it an uncomfortable night. CFR Cluj have proven in recent years they are a decent outfit. Any of them will be difficult ties but, based on quality of players and playing conditions, I think Helsingborgs offer the best opportunity to get through.

Plus it gives us a chance of 2 games to sing Henrik's name and possible get him back to Paradise for a night!

Agree0 Disagree0

When is the draw bhoys?

Jamesy Bhoy {Ed007's Note - Friday at 11 a.m.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Cluj are definitely the toughest but let's be fair, there's probably no easy games at this stage. In an ideal world we need the away leg to be first so that in the event we lose, we come back to Celtic Park knowing what we need to do and have the capacity crowd behind the Bhoys.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would say avoid the Romanians and Israelis

Agree0 Disagree0

Doesnt matter which one we get each one has got to be treated with the same importance,a win and our season is with the elite it's the most important fixture of the season.cmon boys and well done on getting that away win

Agree0 Disagree0

Id take Limassol, i think that linfield got a draw with these boys at home, I think we could do the job on them at parkhead and be sitting pretty for the return leg. - Quack

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope we get Helsingborgs (Sweden)
on Friday, But who is the King of Kings going to be supporting? ha ha

Evening Ed

Great result for the bhoys tonight! Absolutely over the moon! Just wanted to ask do you think there might be some transfer activity before the CL play off game to try and enhance our chances? Or do you think the board will wait to see if we qualify before signing anyone??

Ice Man {Ed007's Note - I'm hopeful that we will sign someone. The board will be aware of the minimum income from any European adventure, surely they will release some funds if deals can be struck. I am still wary that there is a Plan A and a Plan B depending on European qualification and in which competition it will be.}

someone mentioned on an earlier post we were watching sorum a helsinborg player , i hope they have it wrong and its the boy alfred finbogason instead, i read online we had been monotoring him and he looks good 6ft1 23 43 goals in 82 games,,,,deep river bhoy

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Got the post about Heinricksen the other day...Lol. Let's hope we go and sign him now we are in the final qualifying round. Ian L

Agree0 Disagree0

Didn't we used to have a young lad called Finbogasson? Icelandic if I'm not mistaken? Is it him? Greg. {Ed007's Note - It was Kjarten Finnbogason CFC had on their books. Alfredo was only on loan at Helsingborgs from Lokeran.}

Celtic will be seeded in Friday's fourth round draw for the Champions League as they attempt to reach the group stage for the first time in four years.
Second half goals from Joe Ledley and Georgios Samaras saw off HJK Helsinki tonight to go through on a 4-1 aggregate but Victor Wanyama will miss the next match after picking up two yellow cards against the Finns.

CFR Cluj are the highest ranked side that Celtic could be drawn against with the Roumanian champions winning home and away against Czech side Liberec to make it to the final qualifying round.

Swedish side Helsinborgs are another option and look to be in form after beating Slask Wroclaw 6-1 on aggregate including an impressive 3-0 win in Poland. Domestically Helsinborgs haven't been so strong and are sitting in sixth place after 17 matches.

Maribor of Slovenia wouldn't be overawed returning to Glasgow after dumping Rangers out of the Europa League last season but are relatively untested this season after enjoying a comfortable 5-1 aggregate win over F91 Dudelange from Luxemburg.

Israeli side Hapoel Kiryat Ahmona deserve respect after putting Zilina out in the second round then seeing off Neftci PFK of Azerbijan 6-2 on aggregate after winning the first leg 4-0 at home.

Cypriot side AEL Limassol will be looking to emulate APOEL who reached the last eight of the competition before losing out to Real Madrid. AEL beat Partizan Belgrade home and away to reach the fourth round having lost both of their previous European Cup ties back in 1968.

The draw for the fourth round will be made on Friday in Nyon starting at 11am Celtic Park time.

Ed now that we are guaranteed European football till Christmas sure there has to be some sort of investment into the team regardless of players leaving? Still think we need a cd and cf but I think the priority is a creative midfielder because at times we just seem to run out of ideas. Great result tonight and hopefully a good drew on friday and the season off to a flier.

celtic to sign berra from wolves next week

Believable7 Unbelievable13

I would rather have G Caldwell back than sign Berra...

Agree1 Disagree1

What berra is a quality defender

Agree0 Disagree0

Berra is better than an CB at Celtic right now. Hbhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Bera is a donkey infact he's probably not even as good as that, mulgrew & rogne both better players than him

Agree1 Disagree0

I don't think berra is any better than royne, Wanyamma, or mulgrew...I do think he's way better than caldwell though..seriously hope he doesn't arrive back. Markiebhoy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Berra would be a solid addition to our defence.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd happily take Berra. Just hope Wolves don't want stupid money for him like they've been doing with Steven Fletcher.

Agree0 Disagree0

Please please no.........

Agree0 Disagree0

A heard he's a rangers fan not that it makes a difference

Agree0 Disagree0

As a wolves fan Berra is a good squad player but nothing more than that. Wolves will be happy for whatever Celtic offer to get him out the door.

good win for the bhoys tonight Joe Ledley MOTM for me fantastic play from him again proving how much he means to the team yet again! Seen a few of our Bhoys got booked tonight ED how does the card situation work? are the yellow cards wiped after the final qualifier if wee make it into the group?

Flynny {Ed007's Note - Wanyama will be banned for the next match after being red carded. In the qualifying stage, a player who receives two yellow cards in two separate matches, or four overall, is suspended for the subsequent game. If the qualifying stage ends and the punishment has not been served, it will roll over into the next phase of the competition. However, if the single yellow card has not resulted in disciplinary action during the qualifying stage, it will not follow the player into the next round. The group stage rules allow for a suspension to occur if a player receives three cautions in three different matches.}

Well done Neil Lennon & the bhoys, fantastic European away result/performance tonight. Hats of to big samaras killing the game of for us, as you may no I'm not his biggest fan but credit where it's due. Thought Scott brown put in a m.o.m performance while only 60% fit. Two games to go and we are back in with the big boys!! Also gets that horrible monkey of our back winning a European game away from home. Ian L {Ed007's Note - No matter what happens Ian we are guaranteed another 8 European matches this season.}

Believable5 Unbelievable4

Cheers for the update Ed. yes Europa group stages at least. Let's hope the draw is kind to us on Friday. That result tonight will go along way with the players involved tonight, I think they will now believe they can do it now (qualify) Ian L {Ed007's Note - It certainly shouldn't do their confidence any harm Ian and after their performances in a very difficult EL group last year things could be looking up.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Well done to Neil and his bhoys. Resounding victories on both legs and could've been loads more goals at Celtic Park (u need to bang em in at home boys).
Min 8 more Euro games this season, outstanding. Let's make it CL bhoys. A good settled team now that has played together for 2 seasons.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed- what is the financial reward should we just get the 8 games you mentioned?

Cheers,
Richybhoy {Ed007's Note - The breakdown of CL money is like this Richy, this does not include any TV money or match-day revenue:

If there is no shock results tonight celtic will meet either Dinamo Zagreb, Cluj, MSK Zilina, Partisan Belgrade or Helsingborgs for a place in the group stage.

looks like Ki and Big Vic are targets for arsenal,man city , should rake in at least £20 million for the pair

Believable4 Unbelievable11

I supose this is if neither player has a release clause in there contract and if there former clubs did'nt put a sell on clause in the deal this could be very true but very much doubt it in this current footballing era players seem to be very well represented now so i would watch this space i think with all this taken into account we will be doing very well when we get 10 million for the pair of them wich is still good fur us what do you think ed {Ed007's Note - Players are only worth what other teams will pay for them.}

Afternoon ed,

I see that now arsenal, man city, fulham I think and QPR are now in the running for ki, do u think a wee bidding war should be started by Celtic or do u think first decent offer accept it.

In my opinion ki is ok, to lightweight for spl drifts in and out of games and when needed never shows apart from the cup final goal he scored. I think we should bounce prices between the big boys ie arsenal n man city n see how far we can stretch them.

Cumby Bhoy

Believable4 Unbelievable6

Lennon stated after Aberdeen game he's waiting on formal bids (out) to be completed, take it as you want, ki, wanyama, kayal?? If there's 3-4 teams in the running for 1 or the other then a bidding war will commence! Take it from there

I can not believe that we are willing to let Ki go. The guy is by far our best midfielder, still young and in fairness to him is still settling in the Scottish game.

His passing last night is something that IMO, celtic are missing at present. He is two footed and can dictate play with ease!

I hope we are sensible about this and keep him for another season or two. At 22, he will only get better.

I would like to see Kayal, Ledley and Ki in the middle of the park, over any other 3, including Brown and Vic.

Linnie88

Believable3 Unbelievable3

Ki is a class act, only 22 and still to improve, if he wasn't at Celtic, we could never afford/attract him. Loads of interest in him, why are people so desperate for him to go? Can we really bring in better?

I see the BBC gossip column says Ki impressed Arsenal's scouts at the Olympics and they're now in the running to make a bid (Daily Fail).

Have you heard any truth in this from your sources?

HamiltonBhoy {Ed007's Note - Arsenal were hoping to sign Nuri Sahin from Real Madrid on a season long loan but that is looking less and less likely so they have turned their attention to Ki. Spurs are also interested in him but as I have said the deal at QPR only requires a medical to complete the move. Sunderland and Werder Bremen are still watching from the wings.}
