I think we should give kelvin wilson a chance paul elliot and alan stubbs had poor first seasons but turned out to be fantastic players . Tulip

Believable11 Unbelievable9

That's a fair point. I remember watching Paul in his first game (a reserve match) and he looked woefull. Kelvin would need to improve 1000% and I'm not sure he can.

Agree0 Disagree0

How can you mention Paul Elliot's name in the same sentence as KW. Paul Elliot was pure class, that said KW could come good as for the life of me I dont know what happened to the boy this season. I have been one of his biggest critics as all indications were he was/is a talented player. As I am far too sentimental I would agree keeping him for another year may not be a bad idea after all. Sopot Celt

Agree0 Disagree0

The reason i mentioned elliot along with wilson is elliot looked awful in his first season and look how he turned out. tulip

Agree0 Disagree0

Cant agree with you on that one Tulip. Paul Elliot had a decent first season, and if my aging memory serves me I think he only played about 50 games in total over a couple of seasons for the Hoops. The implication is he was no better than KW in half of those games. I just dont buy that. Paul Elliot was recognised as potentially one of the best defenders in Europe when he signed for us and if it were not for the racial abuse and the fact there was some disquiet about his contract with CFC he would have stayed longer. We also got a pretty big fee for him. All in all he was a great but all too short piece of business. Sorry if I sound a bit precious here but IMHO Paul Elliot is a very decent man and has only ever said good things about CFC. Sopot Celt PS I know Stubbs was sent off in his first game up at pittodrie but again I dont think his first season was that bad. {Ed007's Note - Paul Elliott was the only British player who played in Italy when CFC signed him from Pisa for £650K in 1989. He left in 1991 to join Chelsea for £1.4 or £1.5 million after being voted Scottish Footballer of the Year. I have had the pleasure of being in his company once at the Scottish Cup final (Henke's last match). 100% total gentleman. Stubbs was once of the best CBs I have seen in a CFC shirt, he could tackle, pass and hit a mean free-kick, Mulgrew reminds me of him with the intelligent way he has learnt to play the game.}

ED007, have you heard the rumours that six italian clubs are supposed to
be interested in big Sammy, price being mentionend is 3m euros, if this is true I hope Sammy has a good Euro 2012 and we can maybe get a bit more for him, as I think he will come back "tired" and go back to his old erratic ways, punt him while we can and use cash to get Henricksen or Rhodes...
Timalloy {Ed007's Note - I have heard the rumours Tim, Ed002 is either in France/USA or on her way back to the UK, I will ask her as soon as I get a chance. Not much goes on in Europe she doesn't know about.}

Believable5 Unbelievable2

He is a big donkey at times,too lasy at times,but i think he does well just off the strikers,chips in with a few goals,if you dont call him a striker hes not a bad player! bri67

Agree0 Disagree0

Sam is one I think we need to hold onto and 3mill seems a tad light considering the season he has had .....TTTS

Agree0 Disagree0

I seen that as well Tim and Werder Bremen. If he has a good Euros..who knows. Although I would be a tad nervous if him & Hooper left. Mrs E

Ed any word on how much we managed to pull in for juarez?
cheers sella77 {Ed007's Note - I heard it was US$2.5 million, that is about £1.6 million. I was shocked as well!}

Believable1 Unbelievable3

Great bit off business considering he never kicked a ball for us!

Byars38625 {Ed007's Note - I am amazed Byars, totally! I can't really doubt who told me when they are using $ instead of £ either.}

Agree0 Disagree0

That's a massive shock ed. Hope the money goes towards a good cb or cf. The only worry I have is that it goes to pay for the Forster deal.

Daz the Hoopy {Ed007's Note - I said I expected CFC to get enough to cover Juarez's pay off and that would be that, the transfer just didn't work out for either side. Even if it does go on the Forster deal Daz, it is a decent trade and leaves other money for investment, including the majority of the money earmarked for the Forster deal.}

Agree0 Disagree0

It is not dollars. It is lira. Wrong country. {Ed007's Note - Mexico actually uses the Peso as it's currency.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Every little helps!!
Sella77

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha very good, away to turkey!

Agree0 Disagree0

Mmmmm a smell sh....,no chance we got that back.Just like the person 2 weeks ago saying WE SPENT 4 MILL ON HIM.SCOTISH SOCCER JURNOS POOREST ON PLANET X. {Ed007's Note - It wasn't a Scottish 'journo' that told me, and nobody said we paid £4 million for him. That would have been the total price with all the add ons included if the deal had been a success, do try and keep up, if you read things a couple of times it might sink in a bit better. My wee niece finds that useful when she is doing her homework, it will stand her in good stead when she goes to high school.}

Agree0 Disagree0

CHEERS ED007, just giving it the way i read it 4 mill, not giving your sources it.Maybe your price for juarez includes wages etc,my 17 year old told me to answer this,more educated than me.lol cheers hail hail.

With Euro 2012 beginning tomorrow I have placed following bets..
To win Groups..
Russia, Spain, Germany, France
pays about 20/1
To qualify from Groups..
Poland, Holland, Italy, England
pays about 6/1
I hope Ireland qualify, but above bets
made with my head not my heart...
Good Luck Timalloy

Believable3 Unbelievable5

Same bet here on group winners Timalloy so hope we are lucky ......DelBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

I actually think Ireland will qualify. Italy have been in terrible form recently plus they have all this controversy surrounding them atm whereas Ireland are unbeaten in 14 games, are going in a buoyant mood and don't really have any pressure on them. England on the other hand tho are facing a much fancied France side, the host nation in their own stadium in front of a hostile crowd and a very decent team in Sweden as well as facing the pressure from their own deluded fans. Best of luck with the group winners tho lol

Ed have you heard if there any truth about the rumours linking us with macheda? think if true sammy could be away but looking at it would be a decent move. but still cant c it happening

And also thanks for answering the murphy question. Think any money for him would be good

Kieran1967 {Ed007's Note - I don't know of any interest in Macheda and TBH he isn't all that good. AF will be looking to offload him either permanently to anyone or on loan to another EPL club.}

Believable1 Unbelievable7

More likely to be Stokes that goes.

Just to touch on sky and hazard as mentioned before. They bring you,ahem, breaking news, on transfers and they also take bets on transfers. This has plenty of scope to be manipulated and surely must be a conflict of interest?
for this reason I dont pay any attention to sly.

Nasri last January another example, they also had bothroyd at 1/4 to sign for us! When this happens sky pocket big time and the cynic in me tells me it's a regular thing with that lot. Mind NOTW

Jamie Mac(thinks the whole of sly is massively corrupt) {Ed007's Note - That is all it is Jamie, why give you odds on every single story they carry? And why is a sports news channel sponsored by it's own betting company? Martinez, OGS were 'odds' on to be the next AV manager, Martinez to LFC... Sneijder was odds on to Join Man Utd last summer, the list goes on and on. I know someone who works for them, I know exactly what goes on behind the scenes. The NL to Norwich non-story is a recent example, NL was NEVER in the frame for that job, it was total garbage made up by Sly and it's newspaper The S*n.}

Believable2 Unbelievable2

I am also well wary of SLY and their slanted Americanised style of 'reporting'.
They had to change their 'exclusive' on the Alan Thomson situation 2/3 times and jump in all to often with the 'SLY Spots - understands' garbage only to reverse or amend their statement later in the day.
My wife got SLY for me as due to health probs and cost I can't get to see The Hoops or any games for that matter and it would be ungratefull to cancel it, but it is so England biased and patronising in it's presentation and my tolerance is being stretched to the limit.

I don't know why we are looking at Leon best when we are challenging for champions league qualification. We need a big no nonsense commanding centre half, a technical midfielder maybe henriksen and a target man to play up top with hooper.

GaryBhoy67

Leon Best is not good enough for Celtic,suggest back to Coventry for him.

Good afternoon ED hope to hell we dont sign Leon Best who is to my
knowledge a very average centre forward.I think we are needing a
dominant cf in the mould of Sutty or big john do you have any preferance
in terms of signing a striker?

stef67 {Ed007's Note - My preference would be Rhodes, but I still expect a move for Leitch-Smith from Crewe.}

Believable9 Unbelievable2

Ed what is the boy leitch- smith like? havent seen nothing of him before. just have heard of him on here and youtube bigs every player up.. Think celtic doing the proper thing right now by off loading and getting ready to sign. glad we have offloaded alot of dead wood already.

Has Murphy left yet ed. if so do you know how much for? Thanks mate

Kieran1967 {Ed007's Note - Murphy will probably join Ipswich on a permanent basis when the window opens, it will probably be a free or a very low price (£100 -150K??). If it wasn't for Nick Powell at Crewe then Leitch-Smith would be one of the hottest properties in England.}

Agree0 Disagree0

All this Leon best stuff is it just paper talk and why does everyone believe it?
Conor67

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the boy Max Clayton at crewe looks at great prospect aswell. He's only 17. Crewe have a great bunch coming through. {Ed007's Note - Good shout, Clayton looks a fantastic prospect, Crewe have always had a nack of producing quality young players, they have one of the best academies in England.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Rhodes would be my ideal choice if we continue to off-load as well as we have been to fund the 3/4 quality players we require. I would steer well clear of Best.
Anyway did he not mockingly disregard us when we made enquiries before?

Celtic back in the hunt for Leon Best, great news! He is the best (excuse the pun) striker that we have been linked with. We are after a target man who can hold the ball up and create space and bring others into play. Doubters will point at his goal return but he has been playing in one of the toughest leagues in the world but has still proved that he is a very good finisher. He was a significant reason behind Ba's prolific form during the first half of last season and would be the perfect foil for Hooper

Believable9 Unbelievable19

You my friend are either a rangers fan or need to get to specsavers (2 pairs for the price of 1). He is a very average player. If that is our limits this season then i hate to think what will happen to us if we make the Champions League. It just lacks ambition, imagination and it would be one of the most unexciting summer signing we have ever made. Rubbish

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh i don't know about that. I'd hate to see him anywhere near paradise.
DAMO1888

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally i think that we dont want leon best. why would we go down that road again. darryl murphy road that is. two similar players who couldnt score in a brothel..
Also ff has signed a contract and no not wishful thinking cause this is what i have been told.
And all rumours linking us with mills and all that i think are false aswel. when has lenny or celtic really let people know there business?
RICHARD DUNNE the man for me to lead this team forward. superb cb

Also name was Kieran1888 but another kieran1888 has popped up so now Kieran1967

Agree0 Disagree0

Leon best is not Celtic class! Jordan Rhodes or Marko janko would be much better alternatives, best would also command a big wage coming from the premiership! A risk simply not worth taking.

Mrs E {Ed007's Note - Thank you.}

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Mrs E, that brings back memories..
Wee Jinky getting an OLE from Real Madrid fans every time he touched the ball....
The 1967 season started with a 4-1 win over Man Utd (sorry ED007) in between we won all 5 trophies we entered for, including of course the BIG CUP, and finished with a 1-0 win over Real Madrid.
Mrs E, I was only a young boy then and was at the pre season friendly with Man Utd, they had all their stars on display but we swept them aside. The impertinence of youth, I thought that winning everything was normal for us Celtic fans.....hail hail Timalloy

We have been linked in the past
And what do you think about Watford defender
Adrian Mariappa as an option?

I can't help but think about Cardiff's situation and the 'rebranding'. I would accept Celtic Park being renamed but to do away with the Green & White Hoops is just a never ever..Sacrilege. A big NO WAY for me. Mrs E

Believable13 Unbelievable2

No worries there, we are owned by a real business man and a fan who believes in tradition, Cardiff like so many English clubs have taken money from anywhere and are now paying the price , maybe Green will rebrand the Gers in as the Greens haha

Agree0 Disagree0

I was having similar thoughts about this the other day. I suppose the green and white hoops is part of our brand and allows use to look completely different to any other team. The renaming of the stadium doesn't bother me either, you would always call it paradise in your head anyway.

I reckon it is the right move for Cardiff though. The Red Dragon sounds much better than the Bluebirds!

Agree0 Disagree0

I think that is the only thing that would make me give up on supporting celtic. It hurts to even imagine that scenario. I mean changing the colours. Changing the stadium name would be bad but i could learn to live with it.

Agree0 Disagree0

One thing to remember is that the hoops werent the original strip.
How many teams have changed names and strips?
Although this seems more about selling the name for money rather than anything else

Agree0 Disagree0

100m for the nike arena would suit me, it is and always will be parkhead anyways ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

It would never happen to celtic we already have a well known loved brand, would love to see a good sponsor for celtic park would be a good source of revenue but would hope it is a ethical company

Agree0 Disagree0

I could cope with the stadium being renamed no problem at all but no way could we deal with replacing the hoops!

Agree0 Disagree0

Money talks in football. im sure if desmond received enough money from a sponsor to change the strips then he would

Morning Ed, I see according to the Daily Ranger that we are back in for that goal machine that is Leon Best. If this is the height of our ambition to sign a guy who has a record worse than big Sammy for goals then we can kiss goodbye to any thoughts of getting into the Champs League proper. Surely we should be looking at not only a proven goalscorer but also a get out ball when we have to go long when in Europe and I'm afraid that Best ain't it. What you think mate?

Stuartybhoy {Ed007's Note - Leon Best is rank rotten, I hope he never gets near a CFC top.}

Believable9 Unbelievable1

Ed I could not agree more mate. With a record of scoring 50 goals since 2004 I cant see why we would want to go near him.

An upgrade on Murphy but that doesnt take a helluva lot!Regardless though,if he signs he will receive 100% backing from me!

i think if we bring in rodalegga we need more creative players any suggestions and still need a strong cb any suggestions on that aswell

Believable0 Unbelievable4

Rodallega occupies a similar role to what celtic already have in Samaras. He may get a few more goals though. Can only see him a a replacement, if Samaras leaves.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gary mackay-Steven might be worth a punt.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Mackay-Stevens would be a good signing and wouldnt cost much. If you are going for scottish based players then he would be the one, i like Jonny Russell aswell.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we would be better off with Russell and mackay Steven! Under lennons guidance they would become even better players.

Byars38625

Agree0 Disagree0

We are challenging for champions league quailifcation and there is talk of the two Dundee utd boys, Mackel-Steven is never gonna be good enough IMO and Russell hes an average player in a bad team should be looking at better players than this!

Bishypaul

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with the above we need a good striker not average one that has exprience the has been some rumours that yakubu would join

Agree0 Disagree0

Yakubus wages would be far too high.macky-Stevens is a good creative player and playing in a better team would only encourage that.

How would Mackay Stevens do with Wigan not as well as Rodalegga, and he has a bit of pace, Honduran I think so possible to get other decent players from the Nation thinking players at celtic only say good things about the club.
