According to certain agents in London celtic are looking at a year long loan deal for Tom huddlestone to fill the central midfield roll left vacant by wanyamas move, this is also a good move for huddlestone to play in champions league football because he's surplus to requirements at white hart lane . If he performs to a high standard and prove his fitness then a move to other epl clubs should happen . Jimayr {Ed007's Note - Well let him go and perform and prove his fitness using some other club instead of us.}

Believable8 Unbelievable24

I'm with Ed on this one, I also don't believe in bringing loans in no point bringing someone in to help another team sell a player, didn't see the point in miku coming in last year and would feel the same if we ended up with him.t

Agree1 Disagree0

I agree, loans are something a proper big club never really does. It smacks of desperation and short term thinking. You should simply be committing to buy a player you rate and have scouted thoroughly-we have banked enough money. Please god we actually spend some of it on quality, I am sick of saying the same thing over and over and over and over and over! Paul

Agree1 Disagree0

Well said Ed, we're too big a club to be used for some player who canny get a game but if he performs well will earn megabucks from a transfer. let the EPL keep these underachievers!!!!

Total rubbish, loans can be a way to land a player for less while he proves himself, look at Sammy and Forster for 2, I do agree that last minute knee jerk loans can be costly but they can and do sometimes offer a great deal

Dannybhoy {Ed007's Note - It has worked out for us twice and if you're honest remember that Samaras was the team's boo boy for years and 99% of fans would have been happy to see him leave. I said for two years it was ridiculous and a total embarrassment that a club CFCs size only had a GK on loan and didn't have our own recognised No.1.
How many other loans have worked for us, what was the point of having Keane, Bellamy, Miku or Lassad amongst a raft of others at the club? A fortune in loan fees, wages, insurance, housing etc pi$$ed down the drain with nothing to show for it. All the while holding back the development of our own young players. I said on the day Miku and Lassad came in that it was a mistake, neither player would play much and would leave in a year's time after taking a fortune out of the club leaving us out of pocket on both deals.
Plus why the hell should we give a player the chance to prove himself to other EPL clubs, is that where you see the club's standing in the game?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Technically big teams do take players on loan,

remember man utd, took henrik larsson on loan.

Inter milan do loans and AC just loaned one of their players from inter for a year!

, ajax just took bojan on loan.

there are and have been others recently.

Agree2 Disagree0

I don't giva monkeys for any milan side or ajax, in fact I don't giva for any team apart from ours and unless its messi etc coming on loan then eff off, ., .kbarry

Agree0 Disagree1

We've got Tom rogic I want to see him play every game.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think you always get the exception to the rule, fair enough if Manchester United have had 1 loan player in 100 years. Also Italy are a bit of a freak example in that they part own players as well, what other country really does that. My point is that in general I think you should be putting all your efforts into the long term-players you have scouted over a period of time. When they're on loan it's all half hearted-they usually live in a hotel etc. You want players settled on a long contract, then if it doesn't work at least there can be no recourse. It's similar to renting/owning a property in that with loans you are paying someones salary but at the end of the day he's not your asset, you usually have to pay a lump sum just to get the player on loan these days also! Cheers Paul

Agree0 Disagree0

I also meant to say that when Forster first arrived(on loan) I didn't fancy him at all. Last season after he signed a contract with us he looked world class! I respect your opinions folks, it's just I think we should be spending any money we have on full signings-we are always pleading poverty, even when we shouldn't be! Paul

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed I think you are being a bit unkind.

Miku played and won against Barca.

Keane scored a goal a game for us.

We were crying out for Bellamy to sign after his loan spell.

I think Huddleston has had his problems but played really well for Spurs last year. He is a Premiership player but considering Spurs broke their transfer record to secure Paulinho he might not get games. {Ed007's Note - Well look at that, three prime examples of a long and lustrous CFC career. What use were they to the club in the long term? Keane and Bellamy have never had any intention of signing for CFC full time, if you think there was any chance of either, then sorry, you're deluded.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Loan signings aren't usually great idea but probably has more to do with players desire and commitment, which is probably why they are on loan in first place! Anyway, should always be an option to keep open I suppose. hopefully we don't need to get any panic loans though!. funny feeling another team from Glasgow might need a panic loan soon maybe (wonga)

Agree0 Disagree0

On loan & possibly 5th choice behind Brown, Ledley, Kayal, Rogic (not to mention the youth coming through). Who benefits from this? I seriously doubt this will happen unless Kayal is off somewhere. Real question is where's our new 4th (or arguably 3rd) striker?
Randi

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed your spot on end of,, NO tick please, ., .kbarry {Ed007's Note - That's a couple of times you have agreed with me over the last few days KB, are you feeling ok? ;-)

Agree0 Disagree1

Total nonsense about big clubs shouldn't loan players. Athletico Madrid have had chelsea keeper courtious on loan for a third season now. Aslong as they r good enough and there's a view 2 a permanent switch wheres the harm? Would rather get a player in for 6-12 months and see what he's like rather than sign a dud for 2-3 mil {Ed007's Note - So pay out maybe £1m in a loan fee and pay him £20k a week, if it doesn't work out he goes back to his parent club, we are still looking for a player in that position and we have just wasted £2m with no return on a transfer fee. That makes sense to you does it?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Ed,

I'm not speaking about a long Celtic career, after all they are loan signings. The only one I mentioned that we (the support) were wanting to sign long-term was Bellamy. Couldn't afford Keane without Dermot's help.

We moved on a lot of dead wood this close season - if Huddleston turns out to be dead wood we can just give him back.

I know what you are saying but if the right player is offered to us on a loan deal Neil will bring him in.

Agree1 Disagree0

Guessing at figures there never said anything bout a player in the 20k bracket or who would comand a 1million fee. Our transfer strategy is 2 mainly look 2 buy young players with potential and sell them on so if john park scouted players who fall in2 that category a don't see a problem. Only under the right circumstances though obviously as in there's a realistic chance of singing them. That no what we did with forster was that a bad idea? {Ed007's Note - Who are you going to get in on loan for less than £1m? We got that much for Bangura, so even a half decent player on £10k a week that is still £1.5 million wasted, with no chance of any return.}

Agree0 Disagree0

With regards to the milan post, AC can't afford to buy players outright they are skint that's why they are turning to loans, and inter clearly want that player to develop in Serie A, as for Ajax takin Bojan, they are as skint as AC and just got money off celtic for Derk, they coulndt afford to buy Bojan outright either. Loans might work for skint clubs but I think we have lost our 2 best players and your wanting to replace them with guys that will be here for a year and move on! And Ed is right about Forster, he's the only one that's worked out properly, big sammi hasn't been up to it until last season, and I think we will see more of the old sammi this season. We need to SIGN players on good contracts and not just sign anyone, sign someone that will go straight into the team and not warm the bench like most when the come to play for the hoops. Miku and lassad were a joke of an idea, I used to think juarez was our worst signin under lenny, but seein they 2 changed my mind, miku couldn't hit water if he fell out a boat and as for lassad only thing had going for him was he could of won a 'I looklike sammi' competition.

Ed, according to radio 5, tom huddlestone on loan from spurs? What do you think about him.
John88 {Ed007's Note - We don't need any players on loan. Total waste of time and money not to mention holding back youth development. It's about time the board realised that loan signings very, very rarely work in our favour.}

Believable7 Unbelievable17

I said about thre months ago I bet the board go for a one year loan deal again like Miku. They can only see getting a possible £5-10m guy in for no transfer fee but big wages which tempts them but from a business perspective and medium term development, I'm with the Ed. you only do it as a last gasp resort if your transfer strategy has failed and the window is banging shut leaving you exposed in a crucial area- like CL quality level striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, I agree with your view on loan signings and the fact that they haven't been much cop. But on the same token, don't you think it has something to do with the calibre of players brought in that's had something to do with the level of success, or lack there of as it should be. I.e. Miku, Brozek, El Kaddouri, Braafhield and Kamara.

On the alternate side we've brought in Sammy and Forster, and Keane and Bellamy on loan also.

But all in all only really twice that I can think of at the moment were a loan deal has actually worked out for the club.

MgC {Ed007's Note - Why are Keane and Bellamy on the alternate side? How long did they stay here for? It cost us a fortune in wages, more money down the drain. Neither of them had any intention of signing permanently for the club.}

Agree1 Disagree0

As they are two players that the majority of fans enjoyed seeing playing in the hoops.

As I said, only really two players who have worked out, Sammy and Forster.

{Ed007's Note - There is a new poll on whether you think Celtic are now seen as a selling club.

celticrumours.co.uk/poll8.html

Believable18 Unbelievable6

Yes but its this league we play in that makes it that way.

Are Southampton or Swansea a step up or is it the EPL that's the step up (and of course the wages) ~ Mrs E

Agree1 Disagree0

Aren't all clubs selling clubs? I mean the factors involved nowadays mean that if players think they can get better money elsewhere or more game time or a clash of personalities or a player just being a handful on and off the pitch. The price is right also springs to mind and we're maybe going to see situations of clubs selling to other clubs that have a deep seated rivalry as in the case of the English Premiership. There are clubs that realise the budget they have and buy and sell accordingly and then there are the handful of financially elite clubs who in their part ensure the rest are what you call 'selling clubs' in the sense I think you mean.

Jammy Mac

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed mentioned it last night I have a fear this is what we're becoming and mist fans except this as some sort of great signing policy any player who maked an impact and his stock rises will be moved on this would be fine if if replacements can be brought in of a similar if not better calibre but I beleave most other clubs are catching on to our remit and the prices rise when celtic show intrest in a player or the vultures swoop on the free's we may be intrested in maybe it's time to change our policy short term and bring in a few guy and spend a few quid while we have it this will keep the quality of the squad up and maybe allow us to bring youth through as the next generation of players we can turn a coin on
Thommyj

Agree0 Disagree0

Dont think there is a need for a poll on that bud!

Big Jason

Agree0 Disagree0

Defo no poll needed.From the days were THE men in charge hoodwinked James McGrory to meet Arsenals top dogs, to his EVERLASTING CREDIT, refused to sign.To Paddy Crerands TEARS when told your going to Man. Utd.And all the rest, Hay, Macari, King Kenny, Charlie Nich, Mcclair, the list is endless and will go on forever, BUT SO WILL WE. al geri. HAILHAIL.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree that all clubs sell their players/best players depending on circumstances. The point though is do Celtic do enough to keep their players, do they show enough ambition? I think we hide behind the whole poor tv rights/poor league deal so what do you expect, but in the same breath we're getting told we are a huge club that relies on no-one, which is correct! There is plenty off other clubs that don't have the marketing/sponsorship deals we have, don't sell as many tickets, don't qualify for europe etc etc etc, yet try and push the boat out (when possible) for players, so its all relative. You can't have it both ways - are we a huge club or not? The biggest problem at Celtic has always been the lack of true visionaries/and the perception we have-it holds us back big time.Paul

Agree0 Disagree0

It hit me personally in the seventies when Macari, Dalglish and Hay all left - when I believed Celtic were the biggest club around and couldn't understand why anyone would want to leave us.
Now it happens at all the biggest clubs :-
Man Utd with Ronaldo to Real Madrid and Figo moving between Barca and Real.
So Football being a multi-billion business means all clubs will sell if the price is right.

Ed I know you don't agree much with loan signings but is there any chance we could have got loic remy from qpr for a season I know it's not ideal but for the reported 2 mil Newcastle have got him for could we not have signed him as a replacement for hooper for short term just throwing it out there cheers mate {Ed007's Note - He was on £75k a week at QPR and he has a rape allegation hanging over him which is probably the reason he is only on loan.}

First time poster here and just been looking into Finnbogason a bit more. It's already been said Heerenveen are operating on a loss and this is true. Dutch clubs tend to be prudent financially, like the Germans, so no matter what the Chief Exec of the club is saying, they'll be looking to sell him. Also found a very interesting article on him. As a youngster, he spent 2 years living in Scotland (Edinburgh), where his idol was none other than Henrik Larsson. In his own words, "he was the only player I wanted to emulate". I say we give this guy the opportunity to sign and tempt him with the no 7.

Morning Ed, who in your opinion will leave Celtic during the current transfer Window. I'd hate to lose Wilson and would be gutted to lose Joe Ledley. Ambrose can go, please someone buy him and Forrest. All the speculation regarding Forster seems to have died down thankfully.

I have no idea who'll we buy in. Any inside track?.

Bad Bhoy. {Ed007's Note - Wilson will be definitely leaving and if an acceptable offer comes in for Ambrose he may very well move on as well. Ledley will get a new contract and unless someone bids crazy money I can't see him or Forrest leaving anytime soon.}

The Forster stuff will have gone quiet because this time next year he'll have one year left on his contract, as far as i'm aware. Let's hope he has a blinder of a season. pea

Agree0 Disagree0

"Please someone buy Forrest" - Please tell me that's sarcasm. Forrest is by far one of Celtic's most valuable assets at present, both financially and practically; succeeded only by Lennon, G. Parker, Samaras and Forster.

Agree3 Disagree4

This doesn't sound good, Ed. Ambrose and Wilson, despite their shortcomings were our starting Centrebacks. The spine of our (successful) team is being allowed to leave, all at once. This is the problem that has hamstrung scandinavian teams for years - they often have good players but only for a year or so before they move on. I feel that the sale of wanyama and hooper (our 2 best players) should have allowed the board to ringfence the rest of the squad, in the same way that Ki's sale last year allowed us to hold on to other players. Gershon, Rogne, Wilson and possibly Ambrose all leaving, with only Mouyokolo and Van Dijk coming in. are we seriously trying to build on last year's success or not? jean-pierre Laguerre.

Forrest has no end product, a bit like Aiden McGeady. I don't rate him at all. I question his work ethic too. Well out of his depth in Europe. Where would you accommodate him in midfield?, Brown, Commons, Ledley, Samaras (Sometimes) Injured Dutch lad.

My problem isn't getting rid of dross like Ambrose it is the fact that he will probably be replaced by more dross.
I was thoroughly disappointed last Summer window when we sold Ki for 6 million and didn't spend a penny of it. This year it's even worse losing Hooper and Wanyama with no sign of any replacements.

Alfred Finnbogason will be a celtic player by the end of the week heerenveen are running at a loss according to their interim chief exec.

Believable16 Unbelievable14

There are so many conflicting posts on here I don't know what to believe!
One thing I know for sure is we are a striker, a midfield powerhouse and soon a solid centre back down and we have a must-win game in Sweden tomorrow we need to focus on.
Unfortunately the headlines leading up to the game are all negative re section 111 and not about the class replacements we seriously need to progress and improve.
I hope we win this tie and follow it up with much needed positivity on the transfer front and Celtic in general.
