Heard Darnell fisher is getting released today, believe what youse want

Believable9 Unbelievable34

He won't be released. Chances are he'll be loaned out this season and Matthews or Lustig will leave next season creating the space for Fisher to come back and be a first-team regular.

I thought he was out of contract at the end of June - I hadn't heard one way or the other what was happening with him. There is never enough clarity at Celtic about what is happening, even the website has players who left at the end of the season. It's little things like that that annoy me, too many things we still do are done on the cheapest level. Regarding Fisher, I feel if he's not better than what we have, Matthews/Lustig that we should let him move for the sake of his career, and the dynamic of our squad - the squad is far too big already, with too many average players, there will be loads not even making the bench, and we obviously want to bring in a bit of quality(that the manager identifies) so players will have to leave, either perm/on loan!

On Norwich site rumours of Sebastian Bassong heading our way. Not heard much about this guy. Also rumored Gary Hooper heading for Hull City (6 million). One minute playing Barcelona then. Ed, any sell-on percentage for Celtic if he does go?

{Ed007's Note - I'm sure there's a 10% sell-on clause.}

I like Bassong, but not sure I'd be overly impressed. As a Newcastle fan, he was good for us briefly and showed real promise. Developed a bit at Spurs but couldn't secure a first team spot. Was part of a shocking Norwich defence last term. Still, a better 'defender' than ambrose I would say. There's no reason Ambrose couldn't play in a more advanced or wide position for us though. We're yet to see any real indication of what shape RD will opt for in the League and Europe though.

I can understand why people don't rate Efe Ambrose very highly but if VVD remains at Celtic I can't see any reason why you would split them up. I've not seen a Celtic cb like Efe that has the ability to bring the ball out from the back mostly with ease. He sometimes has the ability to wrong foot players in a way that befits a skilful winger. For me him and VVD is the partnership when there's a back 4 involved.

He can play Pedro, but he's mainly there for his athleticism I think. Still very much a liability at the back and that's why perhaps he could be pushed forward. There's time for him to develop the mental side of being a defender though.

Hull are in Europe tinytim, he could end up playing barca in the europa

Agree0 Disagree3

Pedro if we don't change our defence particularly a guy who is erratic then losing home and away in Europe will become predictable. Don't judge our defence on domestic level but in euro action barca, ac and ajax gave them lessons on how not to defend.

Yes but I'm a realist when it comes to the pedigree of player we can afford to buy and pay. We were taught defensive lessons by the mentioned teams and that's because each one of them has multi million pound quality in the starting defence and probably in reserve. I believe a player who has his international pedigree and experience will do the job just fine with another campaign along side VVD perhaps with some coaching to remove his poorer side of his game. If you look at what he brings, pace athleticism strength dribbling heading IMO he will only get better. i'm not too stubborn to say that he can sometimes frustrate but players who don't are difficult to come across

Agree0 Disagree0

Well if rd is true to his word about making a mistake is ok but making the same mistake consistently is a problem then efe is the most vulnerable player in our team as he will usually make the same mistake every 2/3 games, I'm a realist also but efe can be replaced with a consistent cb who doesn't cost the earth I'm sure but if rd can stop the erratic play from him then yes he could be a reliable cb

We are exceptionally good as fans of highlighting a bit of a weakness in our players play . Ok very rarely last season Ambrose may have made a costly mistake, however he is forever picking up the opponents most dangerous striker and he and Virgil have formed a very good cb partnership, our best for years . As a right back he is not good enough, especially at getting forward and crossing which is likely to be required by Ronnie .

Agree0 Disagree0

Rarely makes a mistake? Tortured in Europe and a large proportion of points dropped/ getting knocked out of cups Efe had stinkers also. Don't like to make scapegoats out of people but he'd be one of the first positions I'd look to improve. He'd be a very good squad player with his versatility and like I say, there's time for him yet. Some people would be happy going in with the same team, not looking to improve anywhere but give all these prodigies we seem to have hidden away a chance.
