Heard wilson away to ipswich for 250,000,
Just wondering if you heard anything,
Lennon had alot of faith in him,
Maybe more of a chance for him,
Loan move better perhaps
NDP83

Believable5 Unbelievable5

Wilson is away on a free. Really good trier and team player, but too injury prone... no his fault....all the best man!

Agree0 Disagree0

Think he means Kelvin Wilson mate.

From what I have heard this is true.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think he meant kelvin not mark

bigD

Agree0 Disagree0

Cant get rid of wilson the now we dont have a lot of cb and if he did go i would think it would be for more money

Agree0 Disagree0

O'Dea,Loovens and Maijstorovic left,
no defender came in.
We have a problem at the CB spot and now Wilson can leave?
No feckin way, don't believ that at all.

Gary Hooper is close to signing a new five-year contract with Celtic. Hooper will become one of Celtic's highest earners with the striker earning £25k p/w.

Believable15 Unbelievable11

Here's hoping. Let him concentrate on his game.

Hoopey67

Agree0 Disagree0

Stupid money if true ....TTTS

Agree0 Disagree0

I dont think he does enough to justify that wage tbh .
CelticMatt

Agree0 Disagree0

Really hope so!

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Celticmatt he's a lazy Ba*tard. Good finisher and a talent for sure but so lazy at times.

Agree0 Disagree0

If you think he is lazy( and it is only 2 real games, I'm guessing some of you forget about the 50 plus goals he already has with us) then I would like to know what you think of stokes and McCourt. How many times have you seen hooper come back in deep mid to help move the ball around and then get back into the box? Stop judging after each game and think about all that has happened, he is well worth that and would only get us more in a transfer as well would not have his head turned.

Agree0 Disagree0

Scott McDonald scored 88 league goals for us and was more of a team player than Hooper! Did we struggle to replace him? I'd take the money for him, Ki and if we managed to sell samaras I would too!

If the rumour of Wilson is true and they are getting nothing for him then that's shocking business! Unless its Marc Wilson! If its Kelvin Wilson then it's another piece of poor business by Celtic! Freeing wages up is one thing but paying wages, signing on fees etc to gain nothing is absolute stupidity!

C13CCO

Agree0 Disagree0

Some of the fans reply to this post are ridiculous! Do yous know nothing about football? Garry hooper is an amazing cf great link up play always on the shoulder of the defence and his goals are priceless!
He scored in the cl qualifier and got no service against Aberdeen ,he was in our own half trying to get the ball so please think before you write idiotic invalid opinions.

Brian

Agree0 Disagree0

I think that is well over his value, yes he scores goals but his work rate is shocking. celtic fans will always forgive someone who doesnt have the talent and gives everything for the jersey but never someone who has the talent but doesnt put the effort in. i would say id carry him down to a lower end EPL team but i dont have a forklift. we need some pace up front both strikers too immobile. HH

Agree0 Disagree0

On present form and attitude he's not worth half of that
waste of money if it's true

weemarty

Agree0 Disagree0

5 years at 20+ goals a season , nice return.

Agree0 Disagree0

Justify 25k per week for any player in SPL
is my thoughts .Hooper is an ok striker ,championship standard or lower PL and the best we can expect at the minute(not a 25k per week player thou)and no better than an in form Stokes to be honest .
It's the standard of player we can expect for the next few years until things calm down in world football.
We should be content with racking up as many domestic trophies as possible and enjoying and building on what ever bit of success we have in European competitions...TTTS

Agree0 Disagree0

Like i said before hooper scored 25 goals in 37 league appearances the 25 was scored in 15 matches thats a good tally but on the flip side 22 out of 37 appearances he drew a blank that is poor

Agree0 Disagree0

Well Brian that opinion is idiotic and invalid to you mate but not to others.

You say he plays on the shoulder so could you tell me the last time he went through one v one on a keeper?

Also he is very scared of being kicked and if he can't lay the ball off with his first touch we lose it so his link up play isn't great

The guys scores two n three in games then doesn't score in the next three or four games, pretty sure it was Stokes' goals who pulled us through last years sticky patch.

For the selling fee compared to replacement fee I would have to agree that we would have to consider selling him for 7-8 M.

You see I've offered an opinion here without insulting anyone Brian, it would be courteous of you to afford those of us with a different opinion to yourself the same respect.

Hooper is not 4m better than Stokes so economically hoops would be first out the door for me and a few others it seems

Jamie Mac(detestes ignorance)

Agree0 Disagree0

So you would have hooper out the door before stokes? How dumb is that, is it just because he is Irish that you would keep him(along with paddy)? I'm Irish but I could seperate that from a good player or comparing who is better. With stokes and paddy you have the two most ppl that complain when things don't go there way, how many times have you seem stokes stop playing just to yell at a player or paddy for that matter, like on sat game, he tried to take on a player and it didn't work so instead of going after the ball which was 5 feet in front of him he just stops playing and was complaining to our player. Hooper runs around to make moves and space, on says game I must have saw him come back deep in mid to help the ball move around and then gets back in the box. You guys need to wake up just because he is not as fit right now doesn't mean you should all turn on him. And just shows what some of you know if you say sell him before stokes or paddy, hooper is more of a team player and alot better worker then them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nameless poster- I have not turned on Hooper as you put it, merely pointing out some of his weaknesses.
My point regarding Stokes and Hooper is this - they will both score roughly the same amount of goals each season. With this in mind I suggested it would make more sense to sell Hooper rather than Stokes as we could get 7,8m for Gary as opposed to 2,3m for Stokes. This is sense.

Hooper is hanging out for a move I think but at this minute this is a hypothetical discussion and to suggest nationality has anything to do with the shaping of my own personal opinion is absurd.

Jamie Mac(talking sense)

Agree0 Disagree0

Another thing Hooper hasn't moved a leg effort wise in the four games I have been at so far, again only my opinion before people think I think I have absolute wisdom, again its only my opinion.

Watched the game back last night and the commentator remarked ONCE about Hooper coming deep and it seems a lot of people may have taken this to the extreme. He hardly ever chases a defender down.

Watch him in the coming Weeks and this is not all you will notice, you will see that he is terrified of being kicked and this shapes things he does majorly at these times.

if an offer of the reported value comes in he's away so this is all academic really but so are most threads on forums I suppose.

Still good to be talking bout the bhoys, whatever the topic, whatever the point

Hail hail

Jamie Mac

Agree0 Disagree0

Early days into the season. To many people dont understand that you cant play to the top of you game every minute of every game. The fact is that even when he plays not up to his best there is always a chance he will score which is something every team wants. Also anyone saying he should leave are off their heads. His movement, runs, and finishing is up there with the best in britain. If you actually watch him off the ball and how intelligent he is then maybe you will understand where I am coming from. I guarantee if he leaves we will be wishing he was back within two months. Best striker at the club by far and no guarantee who ever we bring in will score goals, but you know Hooper will. Crazy if we let him leave this season unless crazy money comes in.

Here are the facts.

1) Money will definitely be made available for Lennon to spend before the end of August.

2) Lennon will get more money if Celtic qualify for the Group Stages of the Champions League than he will if Celtic qualify for the Europa League Group Stages.

3) If Celtic qualify for the Europa League Group Stages, Lennon will still get more money than if he didn't qualify for any European competition.

4) If Celtic qualify for the Champions League Group Stages, it is likely that Lennon won't have to sell anyone and will be able to spend in the region of £6-8m on his preferred centre back and centre forward.

5) If Celtic qualify for the Europa League Group Stages, it is likely that Lennon will have to sell someone, but will be able to spend in the region of £4-6m on a centre back and centre forward.

6) If Celtic fail to qualify for any European competition then Lennon will definitely have to sell a player (most likely to be Ki) and only £3-4.5m will be made available to spend.

Believable14 Unbelievable15

If this is the case then why haven't the board released the 3 to 4 million that you claim to be available if we do not qualify for any European competition and use this to buy a cb now and give us a better chance of making the cl or el thus bringing more money into the club don't c why we have to wait till end of august if you claim there is a minimum amount of funds already agreed

Pedro sanchez

Agree2 Disagree0

Too many if's. Celtic is a business and any good business wis not run on if's and buts.
They make the decsions in the best intrests of the club and shareholders.
To be honest I think that Celtic expected one of their "stars" to be sold sooner be it, Ki, Kayal, Wanyama or even Hooper (doubtful on that one though!).
This would have meant that Lennon could spend that money without impacting on the running of the club, as this would have been money not budgeted for.
On the signing front Christophe Berra for CB??
Good EPL pedigree, solid defender too.
On the striker front, I think we are in trouble as there are not too many players out there that actually fit what we are looking!

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said Pedro!

Agree0 Disagree0

Pedro, Lennon will wait until the end of August to see if Celtic qualify for the Champions League to determine the quality of player he will be bringing in. If we go out and splash £3-4m on a quality centre back now and don't qualify for Europe then don't you think that would be quite a stupid move?

Agree0 Disagree0

On the other hand if we don't sign a good cb and end up getting put out of both euro comps cause of a shaky defense would u all b glad that the club had saved 4 million squid. behave yourselves and stop defending the money men i agree that u have to live within ur means but this wait and c if we qualify for this or if we sell this guy attitude is getting beyond a joke its about time the 4 year need for a decent cb came to an end.

Pedro sanchez

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't u think not buying a cb and gettin pumped out of Europe and going into the season with that dumplin Wilson as our only cover for cb and with 2 off form strikers and Murphy as back up is a stupid move ? don't know about u put i go to Celtic park to be entertained not to and pat the board on the back for there ability to save money!

Hi all does anybody think we should look at getting mackay stephens and russel from dundee utd. Need two get rid of murphy and I think mccourt too. Any truth in chris berra cming 2 celtic?

Believable12 Unbelievable7

2 good lads from utd fast an are playing better than what weve got at the moment sign them up,murphy get rid not wot we need, but i wud keep paddy he,s still got a wee bit owe magic///derbycelt

Agree1 Disagree0

I agree would love to see the two utd boys in the hoops would give better balance on the flanks, with Forrest on the right side plus wee Stevens takes players on we dont have that apart from Forrest an McCourt, big fan of johhny Russell I think him and hopper would be a fantastic strike force for the SPL and Europe

Agree0 Disagree0

Sign the 2 in a heartbeat

gunniebhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Sign both immediately, could pay both wages on the lads who have left already.
Both now proven SPL battlers. I believe they would both be better as a pair coming in than just buying one.
Mackey-Steven had Bartley of Rangers in his back pocket last season. Their sell on in a few years would be profitable. Good squad additions.

Christophe Berra signing this week. My brother is good friends with him ---- Stevie Lawson ---Hail Hail

Believable10 Unbelievable12

Caldwell mcmanus loovens big dan wilson all better than him, so i hope not, if we do its a step backwards ,,,deep river bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

He'd better not be! Would much rather have Rogne at centre half or even if push comes to shove move Lustig into the centre half position. Berra is a bombscare.

Agree1 Disagree0

Please say this is not true! He is the slowest center back i've ever seen! He's not better than any of the players we already have.....Kelvin Wilson is better, and that's saying something

Sparky88

Agree0 Disagree0

Not seen much of him since he went south but would have signed him from hearts.

Hoopey67

Agree0 Disagree0

Slowest CB you have ever seen? Not seen Rogne play for Celtic then! Should get to more games. Berra much better than Wilson. Dan. Mick and head are gone so why compare?Hbhoy.

Agree2 Disagree0

Can you get Big Stevie to put him off the idea please?

Agree0 Disagree0

Wouldnt be a bad signing!

Agree0 Disagree0

Berra is a better c/back than any other in the SPL, and i include Charlie

Agree0 Disagree0

Gets a game in premiership week in week out so not a bad signing id say

lennon after 2 cb back after kelvin wilson looks 2 be on his way 2 the champonship most likely matt mills will be the replacement but for him he has another couple off targets (curtis davies and ben haim of portsmouth) he is also looking 2 gt rid off murphy and bring in a new striker possibly hennrikson or kitson and a six month loan for striker as bangura probs going 2 be out til january

Believable2 Unbelievable10

Matt Mills signed fur Bolton ages ago!

Is bangura really out again until January??! I feel bad for him if so, but it would certainly emphasize what a disaster his signing has been cos he was out most of last season too!

Agree0 Disagree0

Ben haim on 36000 a week and really crap

And Bangura had only tweaked his hamstring. So From start to finish this rumour is completely made up.

Celtic scouts at the Dundee United - Hibs game today supposedly watching Johnny Russell.

Believable10 Unbelievable6

Took his goal well, but still think we should be aiming higher than that if we're to make any impact in europe

taco

Agree0 Disagree0

Johnny russell not bad player when the rest of us celtic fans admit that we are nothing better than europa cup team that is our levell and not any fault of the team nor the management just the hand cuff's that playing in the spl put on us or in scotland for that matter this will never change as long as uefa punish the poor leagues champions should go straight in to the group stages and then they can put in second place teams of the stronger league's and so on

Agree0 Disagree0

I have not seen much of Russell but when I have seen him i have been impressed i for one would like to see him at Celtic park as for europe what will be will be.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would take both Russell and Daly.
They would be great replacements for Bangura and Murphy neither are anywhere near Celtic class.
HH
/BB

Agree1 Disagree0

We signed our most potent strike force in many years (Hooper and Stokes) from Hibs and Scunthorpe who had just been relegated from the Championship. I trust our coaches and scouts and we all need to.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would take russel, agree about murphy, dont think bangura has been given a chance yet...........bhoywonder

Agree0 Disagree0

Celtic class do you know what your talkin about is brown and the current midfield as good as petrov and moravcik is hooper and the current strikers as good as hartson sutton and larsson i think not so at this moment and time we don't have any celtic class players fact

Agree0 Disagree0

Bangura hasnt had a chance and russell would invigorate hooper and could hopefully see the end of stokes.

Agree0 Disagree0

Re 7- time guys like u got off Browns back. He is Celtic class 100%. He wouldn't be out of place in any Celtic midfield that I can remember.

Hoopey67

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes they are better than Daly and Bangura and maybe even Stokes? But they are guaranteed first team football and United could be our main challengers? So even for better wages they may prefer not to be the next Riordan or Zaluska and I also reckon they will be over-priced the same way Goodwilly was to attract bigger fees from England IF Utd do sell.

JJ

Agree0 Disagree0

What is Celtic class? Henk, sutts and stan? Jinky, Lennox and auld? Where do you decide what is celtic class or not? Would Messi manage to sneak in? Please explain. Hbhoy

ed its funny to see everybody wanting to keep ki now wen a few weeks ago he didnt bring anything to the team ect. look at my previous posts and you will see i wrote that ki should be our main priority to keep this year he one o the most creative player we have had in a long time and can pass a ball for fun. ki must stay. mikeybhoy27

Believable13 Unbelievable8

Ki is terrific technically but in order for him to dictate a game he needs more time on the ball than he is allowed in the SPL. In a more technical league (Italy/Spain) he would thrive and probably reach the very top level
Kevbhoy

Agree1 Disagree0

Great player dont think anyone ever said he was crap. But if we can cash in and get better players both suited for spl and cl then would help us better. He is wasted in scotland. Big money and maybe a sell on would be good for Celtic as a club. Could invest in 2 players and keep the club moving forward

Agree0 Disagree0

Ki is Gash!

Was at the game yesterday and the way the team played really reitterated what every fan knows.
We need a centre back, Wanyama and team played better once he was moved forward.
Sammy couldnt be bothered and when things dont go well for him he starts fouling people giving away stupid freekicks.
Kayal had the look of a man short of games.
We DO need Brown in midfield.
Commons is nearly back to the player he was but still neds to shift a few pounds of his arse.
We missed Charlies passing and dead ball ability.
Stokes was just plain fxxxxn awful.
We need a new striker and Daryl Murphy aint the answer.
Paddy I would keep and playing him in centre of midfield lately is a master stroke by Lennon as it his teaching him to pass the ball.
And although hooper never had a sniff I was impressed by his workrate in 2nd half having to come into his own half to collect the ball.

Bad day at the office but things can only get better than that yesterday.

Believable11 Unbelievable11

Agree with you on most points, but i think kayal was one of our best performers yesterday, showing grit, drive and bags of skill.
paddy, sorry, but it's definitely time for him to move on.....everyone seems desperate for us to get shot of ki, but he's contributed more to the team in 6 months than mccourt has in 3 years

taco

Agree1 Disagree0

I agree with most of what you said but I thought Sammy played well until he got kicked in the face. Hooper was lazy throughout. Hopefully its just early season lack of sharpness

DG81

Agree0 Disagree0

I think its obvious to all of us that a cb is a priority. team dont perform well when broony not in team. think sammy was took off because of injury. mcourt has done very little in his time with us, sorry to say but if your not fit for three seasons you never will be........bhoywonder

Agree0 Disagree0

Am not convinced about hooper yet hes lazy only turns up when her feels like it even some important games he doesnt look interested 25 goals shows he can score goals but that 25 was scored in 15 matches out of 37 appearances 22 league games out of 37 he drew a blank

Agree0 Disagree0
