Hey Ed
I see Jordan Rhodes scored a double for Scotland U/21 tonight against Bulgaria! Surely we must push the boat out and sign this kid! I think we'll need to move fast as well! Do you think they'll be any planned bid shortly Ed??

Ice man {Ed007's Note - The latest word is that he may stay at Huddersfield for another year. That could change though.}

Believable7 Unbelievable1

He is being bought from fulham for 6 million we cannot afford him anymore {Ed007's Note - He plays for Huddersfield, Fulham can't sell him.}

Ed - what is happening with Jermaine Beckford. Is he on Celtic's radar. Rated him when he was at Leeds and Everton but have lost track since he went to Leicester. Thanks.

K-Dot. {Ed007's Note - He is still at Leicester mate. I haven't heard of any interest in him from CFC and personally I wouldn't be keen, he has never impressed me. He is supposedly the highest paid player in The Championship, not counting teams just relegated.}

hi ed 1st time post, top site m8. not a rumour just personal thought, i think we are wasting our time with the big gk (2 years trying to get him) nobody is that good. would love to see big gordon coming up and using the 2 million on a cb.surely lennon must fix the cbs up this year. what u think of gordon urself ed? 1 other point i think we should have a look at some of the players out of contract this summer, some good players out there like andy johnson, danny guthrie. this 1 might be a long shot but the boy that was on loan at everton royston drenthe {Ed007's Note - Thanks and welcome to the site. I would take a fully fit Craig Gordon no problem, that is the only doubt I have about him. The problem with Drenthe is his off field behaviour, he had problems at Madrid and at Everton, Moyes looked into 'sacking' him as the club couldn't afford the pay off if they just sent him back to Spain. Great player right enough.}

Rumours section

According to a French website and we've signed a midfielder called Quentin Boesso from GFCO Ajaccio (google "Quentin Boesso Celtic"). I've heard from other websites though that it's all spin from his agent and heard nothing official. Anyone got any solid evidence of him joining us from official, British or inside sources or heard that he's joining outside the usual internet gossip?

No doubt if it's a done deal it'll be announced over the next few days seeing as the transfer window will soon open. He's a 26 year old attacking midfielder/winger. {Ed007's Note - We spoke about him the other day. As of right now there is nothing to confirm the deal is done, in France or over here.}

Believable0 Unbelievable2

Came from his agent and was wishful thinking on his behalf

Agree0 Disagree0

ED007, I take it Lennon is signing him to "Boesso" the midfield.... LOL Timalloy {Ed007's Note - Stop it!! Stop it now!! I am not listening to this for another transfer window, it's bad enough!!!}

Hey Ed, after looking at the formation chat earlier, I'm absolutely stumped. What do you do? Personally, I think we need a striker and thats it. I would be happy if we just bought Rhodes because I like the look of Wanyama, Mulgrew and Rogne at the back, we have Lustig and Blackman to back up the Wing backs, For midfield we have Ledley, Brown, Kayal and Ki...attacking Midfielders we have Commons and Forrest...and strikers we have Hooper, Sammy, Mo and Stokesy...as well as K Wilson, Watt, Ibrahim, McGeouch, Twardzik, Fraser, Toshney etc

Believable6 Unbelievable2

Don't forget about Izzy at wingback. Far superior to Blackman in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

I said Lustig and Blackman as cover for the wing backs, I thought it was obvious the wing backs would be Emilio and Matthews

Just reading on a Wigan athletic fans forum about Gary Caldwell being home sick and wanting a move back to Glasgow! . Wigan looking at a swap deal for Mulgrew.
MR Green Fingers

Believable2 Unbelievable34

Keep him, we'll keep charlie

Agree0 Disagree0

Wouldnt have him in a lucky bag. Mulgrew too good to go.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mulgrew as import to us as Hooper IMHO.
They are both players to build the team around and in Mulgrew's case I see him as a captain of the future.

Would say he is a cert to stay unless funny money is offered.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mulgrew is giong nowhere. And i wouldnt have caldwell back at celtic, he was a nightmare. And thats me being diplomatic.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol i had to laugh at that mulgrew was sotlands best player last season hes worth easy 10mil alone so dont think that will happen

Agree0 Disagree0

He's no worth 10m mate no chance.Even if a 5m bid came in Celtic would accept it,but there is no chance he will go trust me
Conor67

Agree0 Disagree0

How can you say hes only worth 5million. he was the best player in a team that has players worth 10million. IMO he is easily worth 10million.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said every first team player near enough is worth 10 mil and celtic arnt going to sell there best players on fringe players will go

Agree0 Disagree0

What planet are you on, Mulgrew is nowhere near 10 million. In my opinion we don't have anyone in the team worth 10 million.

I rate the player and he would always be in my first 11 but 10 million is not his valuation. 3-4 million tops!

Johnny67

Agree0 Disagree0

Please god not even in a joke...col

Agree0 Disagree0

Charlie mulgrew is easily worth 10M he had a wand of a left foot right aint bad either if he was playing in epl hed be worth 20/25m easily better than kolorov,cole,evra all day long i'd honestly knock back 10M the assist ,goals and positions he can play in are unbelievable as for caldwell haha,.,.kbarry

Agree0 Disagree0

As someone who has known Charlie since primary school and like a lot he is never a 10mill pound player prib half that at most but a players only worth what a clubs willing to pay! He will be at Celtic next season and the season after that he is VERY settled.
Campsie Tim

Agree0 Disagree0

Caldwell for mulgrew thats like someone swaping a tenner for 50 quid it will never happen

Agree0 Disagree0

Kbarry,

You need help bud.

So you are saying Mulgrew is the best left back in Britain?

Did you happen to see the Scotland v USA game? The game in which the best left back in Britain got torn a new one by an average team?

You aint got a clue man!

TTG

Agree0 Disagree0

He's an awful left back but a good centre back with a great left foot

Agree0 Disagree0

He's not the best LB in Britain cause IMO he's pretty useless at LB, hasnt got the pace

Agree0 Disagree0

Kbarry u r deluded mate charlie mulgrew is no where near as good as cole or evra,yes he had a brilliant season but he is worth 5m tops. He dosent even play lb anymore hes a cb now.Stop postin rubbish
Conor67

ps. Gary Hooper is better than rooney and van persie lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Always think that Mulgrew was an average LB but a great CB.

I wouldn't want to put a value on him but I would say he is one of our most valuable players.

As I said earlier Hooper, Wanyama and Mulgrew are the players I would build our team around.
All three guys I would love to see at Celtic Park for years to come.
HH
/BB

Agree0 Disagree0

Im the biggest Charlie Mulgrew fan you will ever meet mate and i know hes not on the same level as Ashley Cole, closer to evra cos he is getting on a bit and is starting to make a lot of mistakes but nonetheless still a standard higher than mulgrew. He is a much better centre half than left back. That is his position now. Wasnt kidding either....all 3 of my celtic kits from this year have Mulgrew 21 on the back. Hes a top bhoy and a fanatical celtic man like you and me into the bargain. Oh......AND HE HATES THE ****! haha

Agree0 Disagree0

Mate Ashley Cole in the d*ckh head stakes might be challenging John Terry for the title but he IS world class, a brilliant player. Charlie Mulgrew as much as i love him is an average LEFT BACK. HE is however a quality Centre Half. I bet hes a better centre half than Evra and Cole if that makes you feel any better. I rate him 3.5 to 4 million

Agree0 Disagree0

Think I'm better than can persie, don't rate him at all, yeah he's scored a lot of goals but he misses way to many chances, Charlie for 10mil? Settle for half that, never better than coke beat LB in the world in my eyes

Agree0 Disagree0

Hmmmm Mulgrew for Caldwell, must win the award for Stupidest Idea EVER.....

Iain

Agree0 Disagree0

Mulgrew aint a left back anymore.his positional sense is all over the shop but he can read a game at centre back.we cant even consider playing him on the left anymore.

From Official Celtic Website:

Celtic Under-15s set for World Club Championships

FOLLOWING their success in the Nike Cup in April, Celtics Under-15s will travel to Shanghai, China, to take part in the World Club Championships in July.

The young Hoops proved they were the best in Britain last month when they knocked out West Ham, Bolton Wanderers, Stoke City, Newcastle United and Liverpool before beating Chelsea in the final on penalties.

They will now join the best teams from elsewhere in the world, with the other European representatives coming from Germany, Spain, Italy and France while traditional hosts, Manchester United, will also take part.

They will be joined from teams across the world, from as far flung as South Africa, USA, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, China, Japan, Korea and Australia with a side also representing Africa

The tournament kicks-off on Sunday, July 22 and lasts for three days. Four groups of five will then commence and the top two from each will progress into the quarter-finals.

Head of Youth, Chris McCart, is delighted to be a part of the tournament and believes this will be a fantastic opportunity for the youngsters.

"From a football perspective its going to be a great education for them," he told the official website. "They will experience the travelling and sample a different type of culture by playing in another continent.

"There will be high temperatures and a real humidity that they will have to get used to. And there is such a global range of teams taking part as well so there will be a variety of different styles of football being played.

"We had nine players involved with Scotland for the match against Russia, so the majority of the squad will be internationalists. Around 95% of them are also from the St Ninians school programme as well, so its a great credit to them.

"Its also a good opportunity to promote Celtic as a brand as our strips will be on display all around the world. Its fantastic for the club - this is a very prestigious tournament."

The youth players dont usually check back for pre-season training until the end of July, but with the timing of the tournament, they will now be cutting their break to one as short as that of the first-team.

McCart continued: "We need a real scientific approach to how we prepare. The players will need to come in and do a mini pre-season and get a couple of games played first.

"They usually have a four-week build-up before games so they will be back in at the start of July now to help with preparations."

Hi Ed always read the rumours but rarely post. Love the site! Anywho just went to get my son the new away strip and was just lookn at all the sale stuff (for 7s) and I may just be putting 2+2 together and getting Rangers accounts but the rails where filled with 88 Hooper t-shirts. Not sure what to make of it but with all the talk of interest in him. What u think?

Stuartybhoy {Ed007's Note - Hi Stuarty, welcome to the site. It is probably just old stock and they are trying to shift it.}

Hi Ed, Any info on whether Peter Lawell granted Green that meeting he was after?. Personally I hope PL told him where to go!.

Bad Bhoy {Ed007's Note - I haven't heard of any meeting yet but I was told that PL had been suggesting a revamp of the Glasgow Cup back to a first team tournament.}

Believable3 Unbelievable3

Celtic and PL will I fear be put in an impossible position with the rangers situation! Green needs to learn very quickly that the divide between the old firm is far more contentious than anything he might have experienced at Sheffield. Celtic or its representatives need to stay away from anything that will be seen as helping or hindering rangers !

Agree0 Disagree0

Peter Lawell was in North Queensferry yesterday afternoon about 12 ish with a couple of suits in tow but didnt recognise them. Hopefully trying to sort out a transfer or possibly meeting Green.

If he did I hope he just walked in, toe'd him in the Gooley's then walked out again!!

Hey Ed, just wondering what your opinions (and the opinions of fellow tims) are on the formation? NL started trying out a Martin O'Neill-esque 3-5-2 near the end of the season and I really thought it worked with Loovens as sweeper. I've done nothing but criticise big Glenda but you cant doubt his ability in the air. Do you think that Loovens should stay to play in this role, or do you think Rogne suits it as well? Also, do you think the 3-5-2 is just for Europe or all the time?

Danjam {Ed007's Note - I expect Loovens to move on Dan. Obviously with NL trying the 3-5-2 system it is in his mind but I would be surprised if it became the the set formation for the team, I think more than likely it will be used in European games. The transfer activity should give a better indication of it all. I would like to see a more experienced CB brought in to play in between Rogne/Mulgrew in the back 3, someone to act as a mentor to Rogne, who at not even 22 yet has started to show his own quality.}

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Rite behind ye big ed 3-5-2 is the waey forwurd speshully wae the 2 full backs wuv goat overlapping bring it oan ma man,
whit say you edwardo? {Ed007's Note - Spot on wee man, Matthews and Izaguirre suit the system perfectly.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Big glenda has to go as for sweeper hes to big and slow for a sweeper as you said good in the air sweepers dont play in the air but on the ground, i also think hes good in the air on a plane outta here,.,.kbarry

Agree0 Disagree0

In my opinion the unusual way Lenny was playing it was why it worked so well.

A 3-5-2 with normal central defenders isnt used much these days because if a team plays one up front (most SPL teams do against Celtic) then there is a spare defender and a defender who is unneccesary. Also under normal circumstances a 4-3-3 will exploit the gaps in it (McLeish's Rangers vs O'Neill's Celtic is a good example).

I think that for Celtic Mulgrew and Wanyama need to be the outside Centre Backs for it to work. They are the free men on the park in the system and it wouldn't work with defenders who cant pass as well as them. Whichever one of the two is free basically has the freedom of the pitch to pick out passes in the style of a deep lying playmaker.

It was a strange one because although big Loovens was in the middle of the three he was playing more as an old fashioned stopper, i.e. coming out and headering everything that came up the park while whichever one of the other two didnt have a man/wasnt up the pitch dropped in behind him to cover.

Its a system very few other teams use but I can't see it being used all the time. The beauty of it is that the team can play a 4-4-2 and if it isn't working they can change to the 3-5-2 at any time without making any substitutions.

Mac

Agree0 Disagree0

I always thought of a sweeper as the deepest CB who has the whole of play in front of him and thought Big Dan would have fitted this role cause it meant he wouldnt have been exposed for lack of pace because he wouldnt have far to run to recover

Danjam

Agree0 Disagree0

Wish loovens had been good. like him for some reason :(

Agree0 Disagree0

A good sweeper doesnt need pace but he also needs to not dive into things and thats where big dan would have been caught out.ive never seena guy so desperate to win the ball early.its fine when he does but if he doesnt at last man he is leaving us wide open. its better to play a sweeper who holds his position, especially in europe!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Against most teams in the SPL Celtic could adopt a 3-5-2 formation , especially at Celtic Park , most teams (Rangers included) only play with one striker when they visit Celtic Park , Victor, Thomas and Charlie looked quite comfortable last season playing in a back 3 .

Agree0 Disagree0

31 May 2012 04:38:59
watch this space .....unfortunately i've heard from a good source charlie mulgrew will be heading for the epl .On the other hand Hooper is staying .

Believable3 Unbelievable24

No he won't
Conor67

Agree0 Disagree0

Doubt it,as he is modeling the new kits along with Ledley and Ki,so I'd be surprised if any of these three are moved on. It would be a case of poor marketing in terms of kit promotion and that is one of the main strengths of Peter Lawell>

Agree0 Disagree0

Mulgrew is going nowhere, this post is a nonesense. He is a celtic man through and through and is about to start contract talks regarding a second wage rise in 2 seasons. He will be here for the long term.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mulgrew for the EPL?

He would get absolutely violated in the EPL. Did you happened to see Scotlands player of the year against the USA?

TTG {Ed007's Note - Did you see what happened to the entire Scotland team? You can't blame Mulgrew for that. Everybody knocks Scottish players going down to England, but look at the amount of them down there making a very good living.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Mulgrew is a bhoy born to play for celtic, the young man is at his last club,.,.kbarry

Agree0 Disagree0

TTG,did you see your keeper?I bet you think he's still world class even though he let in 5.Everyone was to blame,no-one got pass marks.

Jungle Bhoy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jungle Bhoy,

The keeper and defence are to blame for the goals, but when your defence are getting ripped apart theres nothing much you can do as a keeper. There were 5 Scotland defenders on the goal line, more or less, for the 1st goal!!

I certainly don't think McGregor is world class lol.

All I'm saying is Mulgrew is not good enough for the EPL.

TTG

Agree0 Disagree0

Mulgrew had a great season with us, let's see if he has another.

I certainly dont want him to leave and pretty sure he wont.

He's certainly worth nowhere near 10M, not even half of that but he is very good.....albeit can obviously have big time off games.

As for EPL quality, who cares, if he stays with us it is irrelevant...
