Smith was reported to be quitting if M Murray was given the push.
Smith appears to have his price, that price was Murrays appointment as Chairman. Is he competent for the role? obvious answer is no. You normally take many years as a board director before being invited to be Chairman.
Then why was it done? Obvious answer is to sell tickets and dupe fans everything is hunky dory.
Smith had better watch these clever guys, look what they did to a London operator like M Murray. Has Smith's ego got the better of him? He's been set up high. When cometh the fall?

Dont think it really matters mate, the zombies are all getting excited at new signings (pre-contract). They will line up like good little things, buy season tickets and then say "its not our fault, how could the fans have kbown " when the money can't be found later. Sad but true.
