Just saw that QPR are ready to do a deal for Chris Baird on a free, would any1 rate him high enough to take as a freebie for a season to get a bit of cover in at the back, can play right across the back 4 postitions

2 things Chrisbhoy:

1). You stole my name! lol

2). Yes, I'd take Baird in a heartbeat. I've raised his name before and so have a few others. Excellent player for club and country who is well known to Lenny. He's a Celtic fan too and I don't know we wouldn't be interested in him.

Hail Hail

Ahaha

1) sorry mate

2) he's kind of been a dependable player, not very flashy, but gets the job done, when I heard he was a free a just thought he was a realistic target who could do a job for a season

It frustrates me that Celtic are not trying to sign a couple of 'frees' like Baird as I think, with injuries we are a bit thin on the ground.
On Saturday NL was hopeful of a couple of arrivals when he was interviewed after the Tannadyce game; so he must think we are short of numbers too.

How do you know NL isn't on the look out for a couple of frees, Baird mite do a job, but a wouldn't want to fill up our squad with gershons, lassads and mikus just for the sake of it. Youth is the answer to back up players or we should just get shot of lennoxtown.

JJ - you are correct - we are thin. COmpared to last year, we are about 4 or 5 players down. I feel that a free agent CB would be a good move, as by playing Lustig at CB against Shaktar, Neil has shown he doesn't trust our Central Defenders, and that is not good enough for a team who seriously expect to compete in the ChampionsLeague. Jean-Pierre Laguerre.

Free baird! Iam up for that, ., .kbarry

Celtic really need a finisher or a striking coach for development of the lads we have. A solid no nonsense CB and a playmaker wouldn't go a miss either.

Jean-Pierre Laguerre- I think the problem is most definitely not with the defenders but the goalkeeper. He is the cause of all the panic in the Celtic defence. He doesn't command his penalty area and the defenders have no faith in him, still struggling to see why NL has kept faith so long as his indecisiveness nearly cost us a place in the CL. A 6ft7 goalkeeper should never be troubled with a high ball into the 6yd box.

Baird would cost at least £20,000 per week, he was on more at Fulham and he cost them £4.5 mill from Sunderland, anyway his wife won't move from London, that's why he turned West Brom down, they offered him a 2 year contract, and he is a Celtic supporter from a mixed marriage, his Dad supports Gers. {Ed007's Note - Not that it matters but are you sure about his parents? Every report from their home being petrol bombed in a sectarian attack in September 2010 describes them as a 'Catholic family', even their local Sinn Fein representative.}

Is Kevin Doyle a free agent? One report says we can still sign him! Finbarahoy {Ed007's Note - No he isn't free mate. Leicester are trying to sign him from Wolves.}

Ed,

What's the script here.

Is Teemu Pukki ineligible for Celtic in the CL?

My understanding of the rule was if a player features for one club in the CL, he can't play for another club while the previous club remain active:

ie Pukki played 4 mins of Schalke's PO Round 1st Leg against PAOK as a second half sub - As they qualified he can't play for Celtic?

Correct me if I'm wrong, and cheers for the clarification in advance!

HamiltonBhoy {Ed007's Note - The rule has been slightly changed, Pukki is not cup-tied.

18.07 As a rule, a player may not play in a UEFA club competition (i.e. UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, but not UEFA Super Cup) for more than one club in the course of the same season. Exceptionally, however, a player who has been fielded in the first, second, third qualifying round or the play-offs of the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League is entitled to play in the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League for another club as from the group stage.

Ahhh, I see. So it only applies in CL/EL proper?! Cheers Ed.

HamiltonBhoy {Ed007's Note - Yes. You are right though, that was the rule.}

Got to say ed you know your stuff. HH joe {Ed007's Note - Cheers Joe but that is just a cut n paste of the official regs in our database lol.}

Knowledge is as much about knowing where to find the information as it is about knowing it! Feel better ed? HH joe

Have our board been telling porky pies about trying to sign players? Stoke have signed Marko Arnautovic, reportedly for £2m - Wasn't the story going about that we were quoted £4.5m for him?!
