Daniel Schwaab to the mighty Glasgow Celtic?

Believable7 Unbelievable17

Plays for Bayer Leverkusen - Would cost at least £5million. Not a chance

DC

Agree0 Disagree1

Doubt he'd cost that much but very injury prone. Hasn't ever lasted more than 20 matches a season. what's wrong with Gershon, that one really baffles me. Daviebhoy77

Celtic looking at Liam Lawrence currently playing with PAOK in Greece

Believable3 Unbelievable34

As long as that's all they're doing. Looking. DH

Agree0 Disagree1

Not this guy again! Nothing to offer for me. From the prem to Greece says it all. green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree1

Had his chance years ago and chose to ignore us

Agree0 Disagree1

He wanted to sign but got fed up waiting

Bonner, Morris, Rogan, Aitken, McCarthy, WHyte, Miller, McStay, McAvennie, Walker, Burns. Stark and McGhee

Gould, Boyd, Annoni, McNamara, Rieper, Stubbs, Larsson, Burley, Donnelly, Lambert, O'Donnell. Blinker, Weighorst, Brattbakk

These were the Starting 11's and subs for the Centenery League winning team, and the Team that stopped 10 in a row. Would any of the players, APART from Larsson, get into todays starting 11?

Samson

Believable1 Unbelievable11

Is this question for real?

I'll humor it anyway.

1988-Bonner, Aitken, McStay, McAvennie, Burns

1998- McNamara, Stubbs, Lambert, Larsson and a fit O'Donnel

Our team right now isn't as good as everyone seems to think

Agree2 Disagree0

Rieper, Stubbs, Lambert, McStay and McAvennie. Shouldn't forget Frankie boy was one of the top strikers in the Uk at this time.
CBP

Agree1 Disagree0

Bonner, Aitken, Mcarthy, Mcstay, Mcavennie, Burns, Stark, McGhee, Boyd, McNamara, Rieper, Stubbs, Lambert, O'donnell, Wieghorst IMO would stroll into today's team Samson. The question is how many of today's team would get in those teams. DH

Agree2 Disagree0

Without having to think for 2 seconds, Paul McStay would get into any Celtic side.

Agree2 Disagree0

Aitken and Reiper would certainly shore up the defence. Obviously the maestro would be in with Macca up front. Just my humble opinion. I loved Big Roy and I did not see anyone get past Marc Reiper. Ever. He was an outstanding defender and his career cut terribly short. Roy was a leader we could do with a bit of that now. The maestro was just that a maestro. A rare talent and a decent humble man. Big respect to Paul Mcstay. Lambert on his game was possibly the best defensive midfielder in Europe for 1-2 seasons and a great pro. A couple of close ones but Stubbs did not play enough for me and Morton was just not quite consistent enough. PB in his early years, again only my opinion was a bit ropey and inconsistent especially with the cross ball. Sorry but. can't be too sentimental. So all in all the present bunch would get a bit of a run for their money. Sopotcelt

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry missed the great TB he would play in any team of mine. Apologies. Sopotcelt.

Agree0 Disagree0

From the first team; McStay, Burns and McAvennie.
From the second; McNamara and Reiper. green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree2

I agree with DH as a supporter of 50+ years the standard of player has fluctuated a lot with some great entertainers and Celtic legends to others who appeared in 'Not The View' in the harsh serailisation 'They shamed The Hoops'.
Since MON was given a huge bankroll and built the Seville Squad the budget has been astronomically slashed and in general the players have been short of previous standards - but we have a few gems at the club at present - and holding onto our best players is very important to keep progressing and improving.

JJ

Agree0 Disagree0

Rieper the best CH at celtic park in years

the bear, mc stay and frankie bhoy and as said a fit phil o donnell all work walk in to the present team

Agree0 Disagree0

People might not like him now but Craig Burley was a very good player for us and scored a good amount of goals.

As for who would get into todays team:
Rieper, Stubbs, Larsson, Lambert, McStay and McAvennie.

Agree0 Disagree0

Stubbs & Rieper would slot right into our central defence no problem. Ian

Agree0 Disagree0

Those were 2 great sides I don't see it as those getting into todays side but who of today could get into either of those. For me only mathews and wanyama might have a chance
welshbhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Wieghorst won us the league that season imo, so he would be a stick on.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sparky88 Take it you are too young to have seen these two GREAT team's, or you would not be asking the question
Tambhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

@Tambhoy, Not my question mate, I remember these teams very well. I wish Burns and McStay were playing with us now #HH

Agree0 Disagree0

Mc stay would walk in to any team on the planet, I still get goose pimples when watching old games pure class

Agree0 Disagree0

To spin this around i'd say the only 2 players from our current who'd have a chance of getting into these teams would be forster and wanyama

Agree0 Disagree0

Think todays team would have a hard time beating any of these teams. Meagle tim

Agree0 Disagree1

The full 88 team would hammer todays lot plus boyd, mcnamara, reiper, stubbslarsson, lambertodonnell

Agree0 Disagree0

Sparky you asked if any of these two team's player's would get into today's team, I believe that apart from Blinker, they all would and yes I include Harald in that. So I was in fact answering your question.
Tambhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

@tambhoy. read the post mate. it was Samson who asked the question. I answered it first

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't believe some of the answers on this post,

The question should be, would any of the today’s players get into them squads,

talk about fans dumping down, the current Celtic squad is very mediocre of that there is no doubt, ask your self this question do you think will be able to rhyme off this current squad in 10 or 20 years from now,

let me tell you the answer is no

Maestro08

Agree0 Disagree0

Mcstay, macavenie and lambert without a doubt!

Agree0 Disagree0

88 team would bury today's team

Agree0 Disagree0

Some people being really harsh about the team we have now. Just because we lose a few meaningless games at the end of the season doesn't detract from my memories of the champions league and Barcelona. I loved watching both of the other teams but as some perspective, how did they fare in Europe? We should enjoy and respect the current team and not wish it away.
CBP

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry sparky I blame old age mate
Tambhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Theres a few post voting for reiper? I don't get it he was here for a year played about 30/40 games,. ,. kbarry

Agree0 Disagree0

Who out of our current squad are these amazing players that are outshining those two teams I suppose Ambrose is going to keep Stubbs off the sheet or Big Mick for that matter? Our midfield might be our strongest in years but I reckon McStay or Lambert trump any of them-including Wanyama who looks amazing but is still only a potential great. Paul Lambert has a Champion's League medal and managed to keep Ronaldo completely out of the 98 Brazil game when he was at his peak. Paul McStay is one of the all time great Celts. Forrest is the best keeper SINCE Bonner. I'd take Roy Aitken as he is now judging on some of this season's performances. Weird post Daviebhoy77

Agree0 Disagree0

Forrster lol Daviebhoy77

Agree0 Disagree0

Aitken, McStay, Burns & Lambert, I reckon

Awryt Ed mate I read earlier that Jonas Olsson Swedish defender from West Brom has a 3.5 million release clause, he's a brilliant center half real leader would be great for Celtic 30 year's old though and you know anything about his wage ED? he's never played in Champions League before so could be a bonus don't know if other clubs are Interested though hopefully king of kings can put in a good word lol. Hail Hail GhreenBhoy1888 {Ed007's Note - He is on between £40 -45k a week mate.}

Believable1 Unbelievable6

I would say this is almost an impossibility. His salary will be too high, and he doesn't fit the profile (age) although I agree an experienced CB would be a good acquisition. If we are to sign any Swedish player, I would bet money on it being Pontus Jansson from malmö. He fits the profile almost exactly - young, english-speaking, big (6'4''), athletic and an international with a strong country. I have heard several rumours linking him to Celtic, so am almost certain we are watching him. Whether we bid or not remains to be seen, but I can't see them going for a 30 year old from the english championship. Jean-Pierre Laguerre

Agree1 Disagree0

Did the King of Kings no tell us to sign Bangura as well??

Samson

Agree1 Disagree0

Jonas olsson is a premiership defender not a championship defender. he's way out of celtics league. I have heard that christophe berra may be signing on at parkhead tho

Agree0 Disagree2

God no - wondered when this rumour would start, by far and away the worst player I have ever seen, no where near good enough for the hoops, undoubtedly we need a centre half but please not this humpty. Eddie

Celtic looking at Adem Ljajic from Florentina. What a signing this guy would be.

Believable12 Unbelievable11

Where has this rumour came from?good player but can't see Fiorentina selling.

Agree0 Disagree0

It would be, but I can't see any truth in it. This guy will commad wages which will be way beyond our means. JC

Agree2 Disagree0

I really hate the 'Celtic looking at. ' that appears in press and other outlets.
Apart from most of it being tripe; it alerts other clubs to any real targets we have.
I much prefer the Hoops to just go out and tie up a deal. then announce it.

Jungle Jim

Agree0 Disagree0

He's scored 13 for Fiorentina this season who payed 8 Million for him 2 years ago. He's playing his best football for them now so there's no chance they are going to sell a star player at a loss or at least at less than half what there outlay was. This story is a nonsense. And that's before you take into consideration what his wages would be, the fact he aggravated his own manager last season to the point he got a punch in the mouth off him resulting in his sacking and the fact he's banned from playing for Serbia for refusing to sing the national anthem, only mentioning to enthuse the point he's obviously trouble.

Agree1 Disagree0

I heard they were interested in Samaras, do a swap plus 1 million I'd take it. GhreenBhoy1888

Agree0 Disagree0

He has refused to sign a contract extension and its a newspaper that's reporting it.

Agree0 Disagree0

If he is trouble, and running out of contract, then surely they would sell him no? There's no problem in a player not singing a national anthem in my eyes. The scrap with his manager at Fiorentina was ridiculous I remember it and the lad wasn't really that much in the wrong there either, not compared to his gaffer anyway. I think he's the quality we need in that area to improve the current squad. Hope but doubt it will happen.
