New player profile on Victor Wanyama, just visit www.player-profiles.co.uk - we appreciate feedback, thanks.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Lol, "estimated market value" - £3.5m for wanyama. i had enough of that site once i seen this.

celticthomas {Ed007's Note - I'm looking into that.}

Agree0 Disagree0

These sites usually fall when it comes to estimating a players 'worth' to be fair. Not bad apart from that.

If we fail to beat Helsinki do we go into the Europa league qualifiers? {Ed007's Note - Yes.}

Believable7 Unbelievable4

Ed the answer is NO. Celtic have to get through this stage of qualifiers or nothing. That is what is being reported in Scottish media {Ed007's Note - Well I will go with what UEFA say. The 14 losing teams from the CL 3rd round qualifiers drop into the play-off round of the EL. You would think the Scottish media could check the UEFA official site:

www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaleague/season=2013/accesslist/index.html

Agree0 Disagree0

What's the seeding situation in that scenario does anybody know? I'm confident we can beat Helsinki (over two legs) but should that happen there's still some tough teams yet to qualify for the EL. {Ed007's Note - I am 99% certain we would be seeded.}

Celtic will make a fresh approach for Dundee United attacker Johnny Russell after having a £1.5m bid turned down in January.

Believable10 Unbelievable10

Would he be cup tied as he played in Europa League ?

Agree0 Disagree0

No thanks

Iain

Agree0 Disagree0

Take a mil off that and thats what celtic offered then the add ons and sell on would maybe lead to that the only way he would be cup tied is if dundee utd get into europa league group stages

Agree0 Disagree0

I think united will do a deal now that the SPL have reduced finances but cant see it happening unless we sell a striker first.

Ignore the faceless cowards who click unbelievable or disagree when these topics come up. they live on both sides, i remember seeing similar when young jack reyna died. they all have one thing in common , they never ever leave a post to say why they disagree, because that is traceable, and as i already said , they are cowards, so if your not a coward unbelievable tell us why. i wont hold my breath. shamrock . ps good luck stan {Ed007's Note - You are better off just ignoring those buttons Shamrock, I do. I am constantly asking for them to be removed they serve no purpose at all and just attract sad little gilfnards.}

This isnt even a football topic, its about a man trying to beat a killer disease. shamrock you say they live on both sides and i agree with you m8, but whose to say that its a celtic, new rangers or even motherwell fans that have that opinion. my point is whatever creed or colour ppl are there are still scum out there that are just bitter. ...... bhoywonder

Agree0 Disagree0

Bhoywonder, i never said they were sevco , it really doesnt matter who they support , they are sad scum , who obviously have never lost anyone to cancer. so to all celtic fans . don't do it. problem is it might have been a celtic fan that done it , just to make sevco look bad. there is no answer to this, except bonds, do away with the buttons. shamrock

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair to say the king of kings got this one wrong! Bangura up there with the worst I've seen. Ian L

Agree0 Disagree0

Shame as IMO he's still never really been given a proper opportunity. However he's clearly not the type of player we need up front. Would happily see him loaned if it meant bringing in a target man. The loan could also do him a world of good in terms of confidence and fitness.

On last nights performance, if we are offered £5m plus for Gary hooper I would take it! Sami needs to go, keep big vic at any cost, izzy is too comfortable, needs competition to drive him to the form when he first came, stokes needs to go too! Keep Charlie at centre half, his defence, vision, distribution and urgency on the ball was refreshing, doesn't matter that its not his natural position! If it's not broken, don't fix it!

As for signings, with these modern day crazy transfer fees, Its a lottery to see who we get! Ive been impressed with the boy from Motherwell Ojamaa, not a target man but plays like a wee pit bull terrorising defences! We need fresh blood and if it means signing players that are trying to impress to get to the epl them do be it!

Believable7 Unbelievable19

Let's not rush into any knee-jerk reactions.

Samaras done alright last night, great pass to pull us out of a hole.

also Stokes was on the bench, Izzy payed well... think your going a wee bit over the top

Ojamaa though is a good shout looks like a good player

Agree0 Disagree0

Sell hooper, sack samaras and sign ojamaa.... one of the worst posts ive ever read!!!!!

Agree3 Disagree0

Lmao most ridiculous post iv seen! 1 start of season performance from hooper and his value halfs? Leave a name under your post so the ed can block your ridiculous post

Brian

Agree0 Disagree0

Izzy was a bit of a liability last night.
sammy had an decent bursts, but looks like he doesn't know where hes supposed to be which may come down to poor management.
still feel theres a glaring lack of linkup between midf and attack we could do with filling (commons more central?)

Agree0 Disagree0

We need an impact player from the bench, stokes never done it when he came on! And yes it was a good pass from Sami but to that one positive thing there was 15 negative things! Same feeling around the stands too! Frustrating to watch!

Agree0 Disagree0

Dont know what game you where at last night.some fans are so negative 88

Agree1 Disagree0

What about johnny russel looks a crackin wee player and templeton or mckay-steven good young scottish players

Agree0 Disagree0

Who is writing this post charles green ?

Agree0 Disagree0

Prompted to post for the first time after reading this comment. So angry at some of our own fans that cannot see how far we have come in the last 12 months. This guy is talking about selling 4 of our first team
Regulars... Crazy chat. All guys that have shed for us over the course of the season ( yes sami is so frustrating, but no one can argue that he is capable of ripping teams apart on his day)
Lenny has worked wonders, under very challenging circumstances and a sustainable model of buying young talent hungry for success.

We are only one or two quality additions away from a decent run in europe. Lets all just keep the faith {Ed007's Note - Welcome to the site.}

Agree1 Disagree0

Maybe you should have had a wee think before you posted that mate, hooper is our best goalscorer, samaras makes mistakes but plays well in important games, emilio didn't have his best games but he is by far the best left back in Scotland!

However I do agree about wanyama and mulgrew!

Agree0 Disagree0

Was I watching a different match that the comment writer?

Sami did a shift and made a very vital pass. Izzy is still trying to get back to his best which he will soon enough. Sooper Hooper scored if I am not mistaken which is his job!!!

In fact the only things I did agree with were about Charlie and Victor...

Was listening to the game last night and at half-time one of the boys made a good point regarding transfers. Despite the fact we have strength and depth in our midfield, we are really lacking a natural playmaker, someone that can make things happen. he made a comparison to a few years ago when we had Zurawski, who was brilliant at setting an attack off. Do you think rather than looking for a striker this is an area we need strengthening?

Believable8 Unbelievable4

I am expecting a lot from Ibrahim this season, who looks like a real No.10 type

Danjam

Agree0 Disagree0

Zurawski?? He was a striker and not a very good one at that!! Are you sure you don't mean Moravcik? LUBO!

Agree0 Disagree1

If it was bbc scotland then it was lubo they were talking about
bigD

Agree0 Disagree0

No disrespect m8 but I was at the game, we don't lack attacking opportunities, our problem is putting the ball in the net. We should have beaten them comfortably! As 4 Zurawski, Playmaker?? Some1 mentioned Lubo, he was a playmaker, Zurawski was similar 2 Hooper & McDonald, contributed little 2 the team but was a decent finisher

Agree0 Disagree0

We dont create enough clear cut chances on goal anymore! there are no "OOOH'S and AAAHH'S" at the games anymore, we either score or we dont create a thing. Missing that little spark of genious now and then!

Hi ED any updates on transfer activity.
Barry1888 {Ed007's Note - It's mostly outgoing rumours that are going about. Ki is due his medical at QPR after the Olympics but that came from someone connected with Sunderland, maybe they are looking to hijack the deal but I would think it is too late in the day. Arsenal watched Wanyama again last night along with representatives from an Italian team. Man Utd had people at the match as well, they were either watching or Wanyama as well or Izaguirre.}

Believable2 Unbelievable5

02 Aug 2012 16:21:28
is it just me that thinks, yes we need a big target man up front but we also lack a lot of pace in the team. we are missing someone that will make runs and will be able to reach a ball in time

Believable1 Unbelievable1

I think if Rabiu Ibrahim gets more game time this season he will provde us with that bit of extra pace and flair.

MurphyBhoy

Agree2 Disagree0

I have said we need a winger, because we dont have one aside from Forrest. If one of the young lads (George etc) doesnt break through, I'd have a look at Mackay-Steven. I dont see a big target man exactly suiting our style but I think it would be useful to pair up with Mulgrew/Commons/Forrest/Izaguirre's crossing ability. Another CB is a must for me

Can anyone tell me if ESPN are showing Celtic games this season?

I'm holding on to my subscription the moment but the league starts Sat and not a word!

PS I'm on the positive side from last nights performance...we MUST go there to win though, no excuses!

Believable5 Unbelievable3

Looks as though it may be premier sports. They are definitely showing full coverage of every game on a Monday night plus a couple hours of Celtic tv

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not sure but Premier Sports now have all Celtic games on delayed broadcast this season.

Danjam

Agree0 Disagree0

Premier sports show full Celtic matches home and away on a Monday but Sky and ESPN both have a deal to show around 80 live SPL and SFL matches. Same as last season, but there may be a few Div 3 matches! Lol

Agree1 Disagree0

Espn are showing games this season , didnt put up the shedule due to not knowing what wud happen to rangers, they said it wud be up soon... derbycelt

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks bhoys I'll not cancel yet then!

Agree0 Disagree0

As am lead to believe sky sports will show 30 n espn will show 35 games in the spl, they have not disclosed yet who will show the 15 rangers games they are showing yet, this is what I heard on another site, can't see it being much different from that.

Cumby Bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

I heard the rangers games would be shown on the cartoon network! :) Nick

Agree0 Disagree0

The only game I can see that ESPN have confirmed in their schedule is away to Ross County on Saturday 18th of this month.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mate, go to streampro.tv and subscribe to that for £30 a year. This will give you every home and away match that the bhoys will play. I have had this for about 3 years now and it is fantastic. None of this peer to peer rubbish just top drawer streams. I have got this going through a nice 51" lcd and it is fantastic plus its a lot cheaper than e**n and Sly.Just so you know, I dont amke anything from this just trying to help out afellow hoops man

Celtic have such an easy option just sitting in front of them. Jon Daly from Dundee United. He is the kind of player we have been crying out for. Has plenty of SPL experience, is a big physical presence and scores plenty of goals. Hooper and Daly would set the SPL on fire if they were Celtic's front two. Could finally be a partnership in heaven just like Scott McDonald and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink. Would imagine we could sign him for around £1m then we can go out and spend money on a quality defender.

Believable13 Unbelievable5

Daly!!! gimme a break ,

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes, a player like jon daly IS what we have been crying out for. But in terms of JON DALY.....we can stay well clear from that dumpling! there are plenty more rough target men in the world other than jon daly and ones who are 10 times better than him who celtic could sign! wake up and smell the coffee.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would snap up Daly too - scored a decent amount of goals and I think would lay on so many more for the rest.

We should sign him and make him watch videos of Chris Sutton for a season!

Agree0 Disagree0

Hooper and Stokes already set the SPL on fire, it's Europe we are trying to set on fire, and we need a striker good enough for that.

Danjam

Agree0 Disagree0

To the second reply, who would you suggest then? You are the one that needs to wake up and smell the coffee. Gone are the days of Celtic spending £4-5m on a player. Times will be tough financially this season and Celtic cannot afford to spend a great deal of money if we do not qualify for Europe. Dundee United are not in the best position financially and that is why I believe we could pick Daly up for peanuts.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with you Danjam that we need a striker to set Europe on fire, but would you not agree that Stokes is very unreliable and has never been consistent at Celtic. I would punt him as soon as an offer comes in for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Celtic can't spend 4-5 million on strikers anymore? why have we been chasing jordan rhodes for the past 6 months and talking about paying 4 million for him? if we want to sign players like jon daly then we can forget about europe, full stop. i'll admit he had a great season last year and i watched him tonight against dinamo and played well but i just think we can sign a target man like him with much more quality. He's also 30 now i think and we would only get about a season or 2 out of him. We need to be looking at young players for the future and not passengers like him. Yes it will be tough financially but if we sign a striker that will guarantee us qualification then we will recoup the money we spent.

Agree0 Disagree0

If your talking spl we dont need any signing to win it at a canter,Europe is what we are looking at john daly?johnny russell?dont think so.If thats the limit of ambition why win the league,to fall well short in europe.... jimthetim..YNWA....

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldnt call 40 goals in 2 seasons unreliable, he scored some important goals last season i.e Killie, Rennes

Danjam

Agree0 Disagree0

Daly? Is that the aspirations nowadays. Fed up of this mediocre offering. As earlier poster states what is the point. That the level of signing to get us to CL? No.
Why cant we aim big, we r Celtic, a huge pull n with decent salary on offer. Stevo Dundee

Agree0 Disagree0

What about James McFadden. I have always liked him, he is a hoops fan and sign him on pay as you play (29yr old).....

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Aug 2012 14:29:48
Were we not linked to Ivan Ramis last season - now Wigan look set to grab him up? Surely we can compete with the bottom 25% of EPL Clubs??!?

Believable2 Unbelievable4

Even bottom 3 premiership teams get far more money than us thanks to sky! therefore wee teams like wigan etc can pay more wages and bigger transfer fees. that's the way football is these days. ruined by money!

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Aug 2012 14:14:36
why is it even called the champions league coz italy spain n england get top 3 teams straight thru 2 the group stages yet we win our league and hav 2 do a qualifier then a play off its shockin ano the scottish co-officient (spellin) is terrible but at least the league winners from every league should just go straight in since it is called the champions league load a p1sh

gunniebhoy {Ed007's Note - I totally agree Gunnie, I have said for years, even to Rangers fans, that the qualification system is all wrong. Even if the SPL is not a big draw, CFC (and the old Rangers) are with their fanbase etc.}

Believable13 Unbelievable1

Totally agree with this post that means in a sence that teams in these country's have played there part in the demise of scottish football probly would'nt be in the mess it's in just now if celtic or rangers had of been guaranteed 10 million a season.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it's outrageous, absolutely rediculous and how the hell does it help us or any other 'wee league', it only serves to worsen the problem and widen the gap, ah the rich get richer and the blah blah bla. It only encourages the ignorance and irrepressable arrogance of a lot of EPL fans who look down their noses at us.
'Champions League' indeed, Money Club Back Rubbers League, typical modern football p*sh. I can't hide my utter disgust at it, must stop now or i'm going to start swearing. TRP.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree 100% all league winners should go straight in. Uefa are looking to spruce up the europa league this is the best way to to do it.

All league winners into champions league with a straight knockout competition just like the old days then with the europa league you have for example second to forth in epl, la liga & serie a and all the other teams that currently qualify for champions league. sorted and makes it a hell of a lot more interesting!

Agree0 Disagree0

C'mon you are not that naiave. This is the Euromillions league and designed to ensure that the big money earners get into it and generate obscene cashflow. However, every league winner member of the EUFA should automatically qualify with the play-offs involving the second, third and fourth placed teams if they want. Football isnot about the masses anymore, its purely about money. We have to live with it and take the crumbs hoping to get to the main table

Agree0 Disagree0

Its not bein naive its common sense why call it champions league if the champions of the domestic leagues cant get in ? our (scottish teams) performances in europe get ridiculed every season but how are any team in scotland meant 2 progress and earn prize money when the likes of us as league winners hav 2 go thru a qualifier then a play off. We and the old rangers would have 10m guarenteed evry season goin straight into the group phase as domestic league winners the way it should be uefa need 2 take a long hard look at it coz its just goin 2 get worse not just for us but every 1 else in the league and the toher so called wee leagues in europe

gunniebhoy {Ed007's Note - UEFA are running scared of the threat (and inevitability) of a break away European Super League, Gunnie.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Its shockin ed coz u look at chelsea winnin it last season we r a bigger name with a bigger followin than they wil ever be yet we get treated lik sh1t coz we play in the spl

gunniebhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

It should be Champions only. 52 UEFA associations = 52 Champions... Bottom four in the coefficient play in a qualifying round, 50 teams in the group stage (10 groups of 5, 8 games from August to December). 5 group winners, 5 runners up qualify along with the 6 highest ranked third place clubs. Simples!

Agree0 Disagree0

By rights it should be called the TV cup, cause they`re only interested in the countries with the biggest TV audiences. For this reason most european and Fifa tounaments are becoming predictable and boring. Quite frankly, they might as well send out invites rather than have a qualifying process. The rich get richer and nobody else has a hope in hell bar the odd freak of nature!

Can not understand why on earth all the doom? we played a team off the park that are 22 games into there own domestic season? and had it not been for the post and the fact the ref bottled 2 stone wall pens we would have breezeed the game! i personally enjoyed that game last night and liked what i saw on the pitch! I suppose there are a few issues needing sorted but like any top team there always is! get a grip bhoys we are the best team in Scotland we are in the champions league lets back them Hail Hail!!
Scotiebhoy coybig

Believable8 Unbelievable7

All the doom and gloom is because we could not score in a barrell of fan-ies. how many times did we get the ball in wide areas and had to go back because there was nobody in the box. the strikers need to do their job

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, thought while we wernt brilliant we could easily have had one or two more goals second half, remember helsinki now have to come out and try to win the game, i think FORREST will cause them loads of problems with his pace and im sure we will score at least once over there ..........

Hi Ed are you well? Given our shocking away form in europe and that we will be playing on a synthetic field how do you see the next leg panning out? Also if ever there was a need for a Cb and Cf then last night was the perfect advert {Ed007's Note - I'm good thanks. Why is everyone bein so pesimistic? I think we took a lot of good away from last night considering the season has yet to even start. We ran them ragged throughout the second half with the exception of the goal. Why can't we get behind the team for once and accept the win instead of tearing apart their every pass. WE WON FOR GOD SAKE

It was a poor performance against a poor team. I don't buy into this rubbish about 1st game of the season. We knew this months ago so why not do something about it. We had over 50k there last night and didn't put on that good a show that will keep them all coming back. That worrys me

Disappointing to start a serious game with no recognised centre halfs in the Team. While Charlie does a great job there he is a left back and Victor is a midfielder. Are we waiting for money from Ki or Hooper transfer before we will go out and buy a CH and a robust CF?

Believable2 Unbelievable4

Charlie is a better cb than lb in my opinion think he could be really good if we can get a good experianced cb to teach the tricks of the trade.

hi ed ,i have written a few times before and hope u post this ..whats really going on at celtic ? our season tickets have gone up £20 yet we still do not have a signing and last night just proved we are certainly not as good as we really think we are , the passing at times was deplorable , the marking awfull , and our goal threat was non exsistant , when oh when are we going to spend some decent money before its too late and we are out of europe once again , Whats gone wrong now is we wont be able to attract the calibre of player we need to tighten up at the back but also the goal threat we are crying out for up front.. lennon now plays samaras as a winger which means its only hooper / stokes we have upfront , wasnt good enough to win any domestic cups last year so how is it good enough for champions league .... i dont know if anybody anybody else agrees with me but we have got to splash some cash ... the sooner the better

Believable7 Unbelievable6

We need the money because we no longer sell all of our Season Tickets, how many people do tou know that are Celtic Fanatics, talk about them constantly, watch them on the telly, but actually put nothing at all into the cash pot. Those of us who have a season ticket, unfortunately are helping to take up the slack for those who can no longer afford to have one.If we manage to hold on to what we have , that is about as much as we can expect unfortunately. cannot see why we would spend money we do not have, it has only brought misery for every club who has tried it (Outwith the super rich obv)

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice one mate about time a few people woke up to the truth.WE ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH.As for Samaras i am fed up with fans defending his half hearted style of play,we need a big Rottweiller up front.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thought we looked quite good last night for first game back as for no goal threat we scored two and could have had at least another three or four with a bit of luck and maybe it is time we thought about giving the youngsters a run out this season instead of ploughing a fortune into players who want away after 1 good season

rangobango

Agree0 Disagree0

Ooft sami is not a CF so to say we need to replace him with a "big rotweiller"..cmon.... sami has been good all pre season and was good last night except 25 second half minutes....

we cant and dont need to spend to win the SPL so we will only spend if we get guarenteed europe.

as for ST prices, my uncle has 3 for ibrox and theyre still £330 each! so ours at 490 arent too badly priced.

some people never happy

Agree0 Disagree0

To many people on here with samaras blinkers on. They guy is not good enough for us, striker or wide player. The guys game as a so called winger is so one dimensional. Well said mate! Don't know what Neil Lennon sees in him

Shook my head in dismay when I read the 'When we put Helsinki out...' and 'Who do we get in the next qual round Ed?' We have had several very poor pre-seasons and not for the first time players have came back needing to change to an XXL jersey.
We have been under-prepared for Europe for past 3/4 seasons and ok Helsinki are not top drawer but as I said in an earlier post; they are fitter, more organised and would be confident of a result as the SPL carries no real fear for anyone any more.
Obviously we are in the driving seat and I sincerely hope we get our act together pronto, However the lack of investment in a quality centre back and even a decent target man to vary attacks and create more chances when the window opened is scandalous. The current squad is very good in some areas, but the Board and manager should surely have realised the glaring weaknesses the fans have seen for far too long. I also think we are crying out for a tactically aware, motivational asst manager, but I am repeating myself again. Let's hope for progress and sharpness returning, starting on Saturday at Pittodrie
