We may have had poor performances against Sion but a good win tomorrow will pick the team back up If we get back into the europa league will it be that bad? Denmark WON Euro 92 after being entered through the back doors due to Yugoslavia being thrown out KEEP THE FAITH people

Rangers fan here... if i remember also Rangers won the CWC in 72 by similar circumstances so if yas get back in roll yer socks up and restore some pride in the SPL... Ya would have the PERFECT group to achieve this cuz ya would be the immediate underdogs... and lets face it Bhoys & Bears... thats excactly how we like it Good luck Celtic

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes and remeber when Rapid Viena got a 3-0 drubing at parkhead overturned and went on to win the CWC

Hi Ed. first time poster, loving the site
Celtic set to lose out on Dundalk youngster Daniel Kearns to Peterborough. {Ed007's Note - Welcome to the site mate.}

If Sion are rightly thrown out of group stages , i would like to think the hierarchy at Celtic would come up with something like a £50 three match package instead of the probably anticipated £96 , at least then we might have a chance of a rockin Celtic Park instead of 25,000 scattered around this wonderful stadium we have. I would hope it's looked upon as a bonus that we've been put into this group......Stevie

if lenny leaves,or is more likely,shown the door,the ONLY man to take the job on has to be martin oneil.no one else will do.NO ONE {Ed007's Note - That is never going to happen.}

Believable10 Unbelievable13

What ed?lenny leaving,or MON,whos currently unemployed,and has been for a while,making a return? {Ed007's Note - NL will obviously leave CFC at some point but there is no chance of MON returning.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I think I might whitey if I hear Martin O'neill's name again. As brilliant as he was its time to move on... please
Kevbhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

I think if anyone will replace neil it will be craig levein {Ed007's Note - What??}

Agree0 Disagree0

Levein better not be anywhere near Celtic Park in the future and I would too love to see MON back at Parkhead if it doesn't work out for Neil, but our board are gutless.

Agree0 Disagree0

Craig levein would be a great manager for celtic he has went o clubs with no money and did well with them i think he would do gould but must admit i would like to see martin o neil back

Agree0 Disagree0

If levein goes anywhere it will be too castle greyskull to replace fat sally

Agree0 Disagree0

Lenny won't be going anywhere,any time soon.KTF.

fatbhoy67.

Agree0 Disagree0

MON likes to have transfer cash, we dont have any and the club dont have the ambition anymore to try and take on the elite european teams, Keir

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope ur wrong ed lennon is a goat we run around spending 400k there 300k here and the players stink,of course there going to look good in scotland id rather save the money and buy quality rather than quantity. Oneill told the board wat he and their club needed and then was able to deliver, lenny has no balls and was only to happy to be a yes man to get the job also he is only a cheap option on a rolling contract. Us fans want to see something delivered and our club back in europe competing and not on a decision from uefa we should be there on merit. I for 1 am glad were out there embaresing to watch although we won st mirren out classed us says it all really Hail Hail sorry bhoy

to the person on today saying due to UEFA Rule celtic would not be in the europa league as a higher co efficient team will be placed instead of celtic.

this is wrong, the rules state that a higher co efficient side will be placed in the compitition if a team is banned from the tournament but it also states that if a team plays a player who is not regestered or who should not be regestered then the other side will be awarded a 3-0 victory so if found guilty celtic will be awarded a 6-0 (agg) result and in that will receive the co efficient points so not only will it be good for celtic it will be good for the scottish league.

i would be embarased to get through this way but would take it. and with the £1 million for getting to the group stage and with games against ath madrid , udinese , rennes at least 2 of our 3 games will be sell-outs for more money genrated, and with tv money we would get around 5.5 million before any points won if we get any. so the only way i would be happy is for the income.

Believable13 Unbelievable2

In all honesty I wouldn't be bothered if we got through due to Sion's disqualification as the rules have been broken by them,not us. Does anyone think they wouldn't be lodging a protest if the shoe,or boot was one the other foot?

fatbhoy67.HH. {Ed007's Note - CFC didn't have to actually complain Fats (is that ok?), they had been warned before the game, CFC complaining actually helps the case from what I can see}

Can't believe those people saying they don't want to see us back in Europe.

There are two obvious benefits. One if the financial benefit that will provide funds to buy better players.

We are a young inexperienced team and the second benefit is the opportunity to play six games against very good opposition. Sure, we're not likely to qualify from the group, but those six games might go a long way in helping us to become a better team, improve our chances of winning the SPL this year and make us better prepared for Europe next year.

What would people rather, no increased revenue, and our next European game to be next season, when we would be just as unprepared as just now.

Believable16 Unbelievable3

How,exactly,is playing 6 games against a good opposition midweek.then playing spl games 3 days later,some of which will be away from home,while rangers are idle midweek,combined with diddy scots cup cpmpetitions,going to help us win the league????????

Agree0 Disagree0

How has NOT playing these 6 games helped us in recent years ?

Agree0 Disagree0

I know we will not progress in the group stages (thats if we get put in)why not get young hoops in to play them so they can feel whats expected in the future you never no wot they could do cause they r fighting to get in the first team so why not unleash the young.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair point in last comment , why not mix the team up a bit in group stages with the young lads? nothing to lose.....Stevie

Agree0 Disagree0

Playing against better teams makes you a better team. That then increases the chances of winning the SPL. Playing more games in midweek is irrelevant. Under Strachan and O'Neill we were playing Champions League football and winning our fair share of of championships. Are people saying that we should never play in Europe again because that increases our chances on winning the SPL - total nonsense.

Hi ed how r u? I remember us being linke with a young striker in the swedish league earlier this summer. Was it Bangura or was it someone else? Or can u not remember? Lol
Kevbhoy {Ed007's Note - I honestly can't remember off the top off my head Kev, sorry.}

celtic should sell samarse to get some money to fund the bangura move he looks a decent striker........Ed? {Ed007's Note - Sell Samaras full stop mate.}

Believable13 Unbelievable2

Everyone seems to think selling Samaras will solve our problems, but in reality, who is going to be daft enough to buy him? he has a 3 year contract with us which won't be cheap to buy out. Wise up, no-one will bid for this waste of a jersey.

Hi Ed, sorry to jump on the band wagon, but what is all the fuss with a big powerful striker? Henrik Larsson was one of the best strikers we have ever had and was 5ft 10"
Danny B {Ed007's Note - I think we need one simply for the fact we haven't got one and struggle to find a plan B when the game needs changed. BBJ was 6ft1 and Sutton was 6ft3.}

Believable4 Unbelievable3

The fuss is that tonnes of Larssons goals were set up by the 2 big strikers. We already have 2 strikers in the mould of him so we need a big strong guy to compliment them and help us adapt our tactics if need be
Kevbhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Exactly Ed, as most teams we play in the SPL will sit with 10 behind the ball so last 10 or 20 just throw on a big direct CF and start doing Wrangers tactics and hoooof the baws in to the box

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi ed read in the sun today that Celtic are looking at Dave Kitson what do you think,i think he could do us a turn,big 6/3 powerful striker is just what we need.MACCA {Ed007's Note - I was talking about him with someone earlier, he has sort of lost his way over the last 2 years but he was a good player, maybe worth a punt but I'm not ecstatic about the chance of him signing.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely wee skippy was by definition not a tall target man but managed to bang enough in of his head? i wouldnt usually post but this tall tafget man stuff is getting out of hand.

Agree0 Disagree0

Celtic are crying out for a big man. the reason being emilio out injured. charlie mulgrew doesn't bomb as far or as often than emilio down the wing but posses a good threat from set peices and whipping one in in general.

Agree0 Disagree0

I dont think height is the be all etc but we do need to start making the corners count. 4 in 96 converted? jesus

Agree0 Disagree0

Celtic overall are not a tall side. Out of the starting 11 I would pick only the 2 centre halves (Mulgrew and Wilson) are tall. We need a tall striker who can head a ball. The comment about Skippy, he played with JVoH who was tall.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2011 18:08:16
Why is there such a fascination with getting a big striker signed. Some of the great partnerships don't have tall strike forces:

Look at the teams that got to last seasons Champions League final - Hernandez and Rooney at Man Utd, Messi, Villa and Pedro and Barcelona. And Barca have signed Sanchez for this season who is only 5' 7".

Believable3 Unbelievable1

I think Barca & Man Utd are a bit different from Celtic . In Scotland it's a known fact that a big striker and a more mobile striker make good partnerships & suit the style of football. Prso & Novo :) Larsson & Hartson etc etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

Because we play with two wide men who constantly put in crosses that dont get met , also a tall physical striker would mix it or bully defenses also the more variety of attack you can get then the better, the players you mention are the exeption to the rule , and are among the top 10 strikers in the world

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't agree with your point or logic.

There have been many successful Celtic strike forces without a big striker.

But even if you were correct, we've got to look beyond what works in Scotland. We've got to look at what is the most successful style of football, regardless of where it is played, and make that work for us. {Ed007's Note - I think we need to concentrate on winning in Scotland first and foremost before trying to compare our team to Utd or Barca. Why does Drogba at Chelsea, Higuain at Real, Lukaku that Chelsea have just signed or even RVP at Arsenal, all 6ft or over, command such huge fees etc, it is because they all have something different to offer the team.}

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2011 17:22:46
Do you think we could get bangura
Ed cause a lot of clubs want him but non hav bid? {Ed007's Note - If CFC are genuinely interested in him there is a strong chance he could sign up, it is getting too close to the window closing for any mistakes to be made IMO.}

Believable6 Unbelievable1

27 Aug 2011 17:08:16
I think Celtic if re-instated in the europa league should repay the fans for the dismal displays by putting all europa league games at parkhead on the season tickets.

Believable15 Unbelievable5

The whole board would have a collective stroke if this was proposed

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't be ridiculous. We want to make money to invest in better players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ha.lol mate lol.the board maybe if it was owned by the goverment...

Agree0 Disagree0

This is possibly the most ludicrous idea I have heard. Any idea how much it costs to stage one of these games, staff, police etc. not only would we not make any money but we would lose money.

Agree0 Disagree0

The club would still make plenty of dough selling the tickets that arent season book seats,paradise windfall,kiosks,programme sales etc they always say we are the best fans in the world but never reward us remember this would be games we wernt getting anyway

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes totally agree as we have paid inflated prices and the clubs need to give something back to the fans as we aint been influxed with signings.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2011 17:06:38
Hey Ed just checked out this Bangura Looks to have a good scoring record however it states he's 5ft 9 and a half Surely we should be looking for a big powerful target man who can get on the end of crosses What do u think ed? Anyone else agree?

Have it on good word that if sion r thrown out of the Europa league it won't be Celtic who take there place.uefa are giving the place to the non qualifier with the highest co efficient.partisan Tirana.or locomotive Moscow.this is well documented on the official FIFA website. Article 6,rule 4.5.8 our press are that stupid they haven't even looked at the rules.it's just been reported on radio Scotland and Clyde super scoreboard.

Believable6 Unbelievable10

So even though it was CELTIC they cheated against, some other team gets the spot. some how I doubt it

Agree0 Disagree0

If u read the rules correctly if sion are found guilty and thrown out celtic will be awarded a 3-0 win and be in group stages

Agree0 Disagree0

Prob a r*****s fan that posted out of jealousy cos there out 2 european comps

Agree0 Disagree0

Get back to your own board. That is not true. In a situation where one team has suffered due to the other team playing ineligible players it is that team that is reinstated. It is an entirely different situation from the Turkish scenario.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's actually UEFA who are dealing with it not FIFA, and rule mentioned on a news article was 14.A.1 or something like that but basically if a team fields ineligible players who are registered will forfeit the match by 3-0, so as far as I can work out Celtic will win 6-0, no co-efficient will be brought into it, if sion are thrown out the Europa league it will be Celtic fc as per rules

Cumby Bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Nothing will be decided until the hearing next Tuesday.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jealous? KEEEEEEEEEE-RIIIIIIST listen to yourself We were humped I don't want to be shuffeling back in to Europe like this... give it to some other fud's. Can you imagaine the build up to every match? Here come the wee diddy team let back in for a wee laff. F*ck rite off. Let's do it rite next time instead

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol this must be a rangers fan who is anoyed that celtic get back into europe and they dont i think you will find if they are found guilty they get thrown out the compition

Agree0 Disagree0

No such rule you're obviously from the dark side, so p-ss off

Agree0 Disagree0

Well a wee diddy national team called Denmark were allowed back in to the world cup years ago because another team were disqualified and they went on to win the whole thing Not saying we will win this but take what u r given and dont moan about it

Agree0 Disagree0

The "wee diddy team denmark" were not allowed back in due to a country being disqualified for fielding ineligible players. That was obviously for another reason

Agree0 Disagree0

A rangers fan jealous ? jealous of what ? the fact we have won the league the past 3 years ? and you have won what exactly ? always in our shadow friend

Agree0 Disagree0

Shadow of what THE BIG MASSSIVE EUROPEAN CUP ?? no....didn't think so Your team are that thick, they actually advertise on their shirts how uncompetitive our league is. Our 1 HUGE star will always eclipse your 5 tiny ones

Agree0 Disagree0

Too true mate.your NOTHING till you have a european cup in your locker.hail hail.

Agree0 Disagree0

Did you not listen to Michel Platini on Sky Sports News ? he said that Celtic were NOT definately out of the competition as they WOULD be re-instated if Sion are thrown out next week , Rangers are DEFINATELY OUT of both the Champions League AND the Europa League , i'm not saying we are any better than yous , and its not the way we'd want to qualify , but Sion BROKE the rules in both games despite being warned that 5 players were ineligible , we would probably have beaten them otherwise , so we will take the oppertunity if it presents itself , you just concern yourself with Rangers woes , no European monies to ease your impending hefty tax bill Nobby

Agree0 Disagree0

Apparently Izaguirre signed a new deal. The only reason he signed a new deal is because he is injured and can't get a move. It wasn't that long ago he said in Honduras "Im undecided whether or not I'll stay at Celtic." Make no mistake, Kayal will be away very shortly. The boards lack of ambition is ruining our club Support Lenny, sack the board Hail Hail

Jamie

Believable1 Unbelievable20

What? :L We signed one of our best players on a new contract but are showing a lack of ambition?

Agree0 Disagree0

The board comment was unrelated to izaguirre signing a new deal. He wouldn't have signed a new deal if he was fit. The board comment was about them not backing lennon. Sorry if it was confusing lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Jamie - get a grip man. You have absolutely no idea whatsoever that the only reason Izzy signed a contract extension was because he is injured and can't get a move. Or if I am wrong, tell me how you know this.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would he sign an extensin just cause he is injured? He is still under contract so it would not be for security. Has it crossed your mind he maybe signed as he wanted to and as a thank you to the club and the fans - for helping him through his injury

Agree0 Disagree0

Pathetic from a Rangers fan obsessed with Celtic -.-

SWISS club servette now refuse to play sion in the league game Because of there illegal signings AS

Believable19 Unbelievable1

27 Aug 2011 11:45:32
CELTIC appeared to be on the brink of a sensational Europa League reprieve here in Monaco last night and a shot at big guns Atletico Madrid and Udinese.

On a day of drama behind the scenes in Monte Carlo, UEFA wheeled out their two biggest names to fire a double blast at Swiss minnows Sion less than 24 hours after the men from the mountains seemingly sent Neil Lennons side crashing out of the last round of qualifiers with a stunning 3-1 win on Thursday night.

President Michel Platini and General Secretary Gianni Infantino called a breakfast- time briefing at UEFAs HQ yesterday morning during which they insisted very forcefully that Sion broke their competition rules by naming five ineligible players in the squad for the double-header with the
Parkhead side.

They went on to explain that Sions name would go into the hat in the lunchtime draw but hinted heavily they could then be booted out of the
competition on Tuesday of next week when the case comes up before UEFAs control and disciplinary board.

And that could clear the way for Celtic to come back from the dead and scoop a £1million wild card pass into a mouth-watering Group I where Sion ended up yesterday along with Spanish top seeds Atletico, Champions League nearly men Udinese and French outfit Rennes.

Record Sport can reveal today that UEFA have not yet confirmed to Celtic that they would automatically replace Sion in the section and the clubs chief executive Peter Lawwell is anxiously awaiting further developments.

But sources here in the principality were insisting yesterday that Lennons men WILL be reinstated if Sion are given the boot.

Lawwell told us: At this point in time there is not a lot we can say but we are obviously monitoring the situation as it progresses. We will wait to see what decision UEFA make on Tuesday.

Celtic protested to European footballs governing body that four new Sion signings Jose Goncalves, Gabri, Mario Mutsch and Pascal Feindouno should not have been able to play in a 0-0 first-leg draw at Parkhead because of a 12- month transfer embargo which was placed on the Swiss side in January by FIFA.

A fifth summer capture, Billy Ketkeophomphone, was also named in the squad.

And yesterday Platini was adamant that his rules have been breached.

He said: Sion have signed players and then played these players in clear violation of the ban. It is now a matter for our disciplinary board and I cannot say anything else until they have made a judgment.

Sions legal battle with FIFA has seen the club lose verdicts at the Court of Arbitration for Sport and the Swiss supreme court.

However, the case was complicated this month when six newly-signed players won a local civil courts provisional ruling that forced Swiss football authorities to register them.

But UEFA general secretary Infantino stated bullishly yesterday that the law courts will not govern footballs rule book.

He said: The civil court ruling does not affect UEFA, we will look at our rules and the FIFA rules.

Morning ed. Looks like we have a striker in our sights but I wouldn't class him as big target man tho would you? Altho I'd rather see him come instead of Bellamy. Have you any Cb in mind yourself? I always thought St LEdger would of been worth a punt but think he has already move to a new team. Surely samaras can't get another game he's got to go with big dan. Where dose all the money go from merchandise Celtic sell around world because there millions of Celtic fans around the world can't understand how we don't seem to have money. Up Donegal. Bigirishmac {Ed007's Note - I wouldn't have minded St Ledger either BIM but Leicester signed him. It appears to me that there is a very real chance Lenny will not survive until Christmas. I think the board are hoping he loses a few games so they can sack him and get a more experienced manager in to replace him. Only then will they part with funds. I think the buying was always going to be done at Christmas, although the last time we did that it was a disaster. If this does transpire lets hope they have the 3 or 4 targets lined up and ready to go. {Ed007's Note - How can the board have targets lined up for the next manager? Let's not go down that road.}

Believable5 Unbelievable15

I agree with Ed, plus i hardly think the board are dying to sack Lennon therefore having to compensate him then bring in a more experienced guy who would command a bigger wage or even worse have to pay a fee to another club if the guy is already in a job.

Drew

Agree0 Disagree0

If anyone is going to be sacked before xmas its Ally, he was not Whytes man, and you have to ask questions about why Whyte said he would spend 18 mill this window, so does Ally have the backing
Lennon will be backed, we need to move players on before we can get them in, we have the highest wage bill in the SPL 35 mill, and need to free up some of that and at the same time reduce it.
there will be 2 signings and maybe 2 loans in on deadline day, from all the rumours and speculation going around

age 22 , pretty good scoring record and quite mobile, scores with both feet and has a few tricks, looks quite pacy. I reckon he would do a job for Celtic in the SPL

Does any1 else think that we should just accept defeat and get on with domestic football? We had our chance n blew it, not good enough 4 European competition. Sad but true. Had the priveledge of watching guys like Larsson, Sutton, Petrov playing ther hearts out 4 the Tic in my teenage years, never really appreciated the genuine talent within that squad. Legends Wish we still had that never say die attitude now

Why should we accept it? i assume when your at the games and the ref doesnt give a blatant penalty you call him a cheat amongst other things, and the sfa's corruption was highlighted last year (lennon- bougherra, diouf, mccoist). were we meant to keep quiet then too, no we should be pushing to be reinstated. the one yhing i would say is why have the sfa not spoke out on celtics behalf, this is thier issue as we are one of thier member clubs. i think that if this was rankers they would already have sent a delegation to uefa, and the media would be up in arms, but maybe thats just my paranoia.

We shud be taking european football any way it comes. We cant afford to turndown 5 mil in revenue.

I've had time to think about this as well but we weren't beaten by a team with players eligible to play for Sion in the competition, granted we should still have beat the team Sion did put out Rules are rules & now I don't even consider it getting in by 'back door' Sion cheated..end of story. We didn't have a full team so maybe a reprieve for our bad luck eh ?

Totally with Drew on this. Can't afford to turn down 5m or anyhing in fact. We've had mistofurne in the past and Sion have brought it on themselves so Im not in the least embarrased (as some have suggested) in taking a repreive. Anyway, whose to say we wouldnt have won had they only played eligible players. After all 2 goals came form on of the ineligble. I've got my fingers crossed. Paul

I really worry about us these days and i think Lenny has lost the plot with his comments. The early morning papers this comment just goes beyond any resonable explanation. Neil Lennon said:
"I got a good reaction from my players and I want to take that on and into Sunday and to play as well as we did in Switzerland.

Am i the only one who is totally flabergasted lol Thats the only word i could find

Yeah they were shocking. Perhaps if it was a 3-1 defeat away to Barca it would've been a "good reaction" but he really needs to tell people how disappointed he is with his players. First off we want to hear that he's stamping some authority, second off the embarassment might actually...ya know...give a "reaction".

We hate seeing mediocrity in players' performances and IMO so should he if he's going to be a successful manager.

Dare I say..the defence was better without Dan the Dud in the 1st half. As they say - worse than a man doon

Lennon probably just said that to press so they don't start (another) crisis campaign about Celtic. In the dressing room he will be saying the complete different.
