Thank **** don't need another bombscare CB. Have we any idea if we are actually going to sign any1 we need a rightwing back badly as playing 352 lols our best bet with lustig part of the 3. need two players right back and cm hopeful of Mccarthy think he would be great in the hoops.

Morning hoops. Heard from a friend in the know that James McCarthy is a done deal. He is coming on loan with Celtic paying all of his £50K per week wages.

Also, Johansson has agreed personal terms with Fulham and is due to have a medical down there ASAP after Celtic accepted a £2M offer. Other exits are also imminent (please God let one of them be Efe! )

There will be at least 1 other big signing before the deadline (no idea who) as the sale of SJ pretty much funds McCarthy's wages for the year. Apparently the other signing will be the real marque player we've been crying out for for years. Exciting times!

I would be quite happy to have
mc carthy and a quality creative cm player to finish of a good window

Although I'd prefer mc carthy on a permanent deal

But would be happy if it was a loan deal with option to buy.

Think McCarthy deal will happen but can't see us paying £50 grand a week wages for him, that's if he's even on that. Think he'd need to take a drop in wages for us to entertain him.

apparently on 35k a week.

26 Aug 2016 12:55:14

Garryc, Mr Desmond has a history of dishing out mega wages to on-loan Irishmen lol.

Signed a 5 year deal last year so wish people would drop this loan with option to buy fantasy.

£50,000 is not right.

26 Aug 2016 14:24:50
I also heard 35k. We still won't pay that tho.

Kevbhoy, do you seriously see Desmond paying James McCarthy £50 grand a week wages? Maybe in the past Desmond has dug deep in the wages department for the likes of Robbie Keane etc, but there's no way he'd pay ( with all due respect to James McCarthy) £50 grand a week. If we're going to fork out that kind of money on a players wage then I'd be looking for someone with a bigger name and more experience than McCarthy.

It's definitely £50K per week. It works out at £2.6m for a year (it would actually be less than this as his loan would expire at the end of the season or end of June at the latest - so worst case his wages would cost the club £2.2m.

We have just secured not a kick in the arse of £30m for the CL, plus the £7m for the ICC and other player sales. This is all in addition to our normal, season in, season out revenue (TV money, shirt sales, sponsors match day gate) .

And we can't afford £2.2m for McCarthy? He won't be the only one coming in on decent wages. There is at least one more big name to follow. I just hope it is someone with a bit of creativity!

Raven i can't see us paying mccarthy 50k a week mate.
Its not a matter of being able to afford it its just how much it will unbalance the squad. We have a wage structure that we stick religously too it.

Maybe he's the bhoy to break it but 35k sounds more realistic and is still a good wage imo.

26 Aug 2016 16:41:22
It was tongue in cheek garryc but it might not be out of our reach to pay maybe £30-35k for a season if he actually is the man BR wants.

50k a week for Mccarthy no chance. We would have probably paid big zlatan that wage but not for James sorry to disappoint.

Work out our net spend so far,
The wages freed up
Money for SJ
Money spent on transfer fees
Money spent on new contracts, players in wages
Managers wages
Increase season ticket sales

Have we spent that much?

Without the CL revenue?

If we haven't got cash to splash there is something amiss big time.

If the wage was £30/ £35 grand a week kevbhoy I can get that. I'd expect to pay that for a premiership players wage no probs. Just couldn't see the £50 grand mate.

What's the point of paying £50,000,or £25,000,or £15,000, a week, if the guy doesn't perform, we need to get away from these obscene wages, we need to bring in some kind of performance related renumeration,

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2016 17:22:08
How many players and agents would do business with us if we introduced some sort performance related pay structure instead of obscene wages?

ED001 who decides the dates for the CL ties, is it the clubs or does UEFA decide all dates.
I am asking because again we start away from home and end away from home, would have liked first game at Celtic park.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The dates are decided by UEFA, the order of the games are negotiated between the clubs after the draw. It is very common for the "elite" sides to get their choice as they will offer an enticement to the other sides. If the clubs cannot agree a UEFA Rep will step in and do it - very uncommon. I didn't bother going yesterday as the planned meeting for today was rescheduled, but typically after the draw there is a bit of a bash not like Michael Hurley's "Hoodoo Bash" but they can get pretty far out.}
