I actually spoke to him a couple of weeks ago in the players lounge at the Aviva. First thing I said was about coming back to Celtic. His direct reply was "I'd love to but they couldn't afford my wages." True enough I guess.

Money money money. If this is a true story what he really said was I would love to play for Celtic again but I actually love money more than playing for Celtic. I persnally likeMcGeady as a player but this is pretty sickening. Before anyone starts about the short career tosh, these guys make more in a year than the avarage guy does in a lifetime with tax and pensions cars and sometimes accomodation thrown in to the deal and described as fringe benefits. I honestly would rather we developed all our own players. The money in the sport is wicked and IMHO it will ultimately destroy the beautiful game that we all love. Rant over. For now. Sopotcelt

Not a hope in hell I would take McGeady back. Has skill but his goalscoring record is pretty woeful and still can't cross a ball.
Agree1
Disagree0
He is going to Everton for 3-4 million.
Agree0
Disagree0
IMO McGeady has improved very little since we sold him. He still has all the skills and pace but he has never matured into a 15 goal a season winger and his crossing hasn't improved. I think it looks like a better piece of business now more than ever. As for him coming back he said he would like to at the end of his career.

Too much trouble with off-field problems. Know that from his time at Swindon. don't want him near the club.

If we sell hooper for 6 million all we need to do is get an extra 1.

Have also heard this rumour, but Celtic never enter the German market, wish they would as there are a lot of quality players to choose from, but Lenny never seems to look at the Bundesliga which is a shame

Hope it is a reliable source. Wouldn't mind this if the price was right. Naturally, i'd prefer a striker who has been scoring recently (hence why i'm buzzin' about the Altidore link), hopwever I agree with the sentiment that things haven't gone right for him, he's still young and yes, with Hoops and possibly even Stokes on the move, he has shown he's got goals in him at SPL level. If our strikers next season were Sami, Watt, Balde, Altidore and Goodwillie i'd be quite happy.

I'm ready to move to Celtic this weekend, doesn't mean it'll happen though

Victor Wanyama rejected a move to Southampton due to the fact they offered little over his current deal at Celtic Park Victor has told Southampton pay big wages or forget about it. He is happy in Glasgow ATM and says that until a club offers him a huge pay rise he isn't moving unless its Manchester United who are his boyhood club. Celtic were hoping Victor moved in as Lennon had planned on using the money he got from the Wanyama deal on Hoopers Wages and he has now accepted the fact that Hooper or Wanyama have to leave this window
Believable12
Unbelievable9
Hooper shouldn't be offered a new contract, just leave and that's it, same for stokes, same for anyone else that want to leave. Big vic is different class but when he leaves someone else will step up. Celtic scout john park deserves a feckin medal for the players he's found
Agree1

I agree just hold on plenty time and Victor will be a 20 million plus player in jan 2014
Agree1

Can't understand why fans have turned on hooper, may not leave as a legend, but has
Def put the time in. Talking to a few other
Fellow fans and they think watt is ready made replacement. I totally disagree.
As for stokes I think he deserves a decent run in the team and see what he can do.
I hope the rumours of McFadden coming are not true. We don't need old players at the end of there careers, we have a relatively young squad let's keep that way.
Agree1

Watt is in reserve dressing room. Think he needs 2 knuckle down this year and get his attitude sorted. If he does that he'll b a star, if not he's off
Agree0

Wanted £85K PW and 200K SIGNING ON FEE - seems Cardiff will pay this but not Celtics valuation.
VW is not worth anywhere near that sort of wage - keep him in Scotland where he can be big fish.
Agree0
Disagree0
Think you will find it was a £2m signing on fee!
This guy (more probably his agent) is starting to look a pretty poor investment for any EPL side with a poor attitude. Suspect he will now be likely to move abroad.
Agree0
Disagree0
Victor may not really be worth 85k a week but there are plenty of players in the prem with a lot less talent than him on a lot higher wages. If a club wants him they have to pay the money he wants. He has all the bargaining power because he isn't desperate to leave and knows he can get a bigger club. I think its refreshing to see a player turn down a lower half prem club. Shows he at least has footballing ambitions unlike some players who jump on the BPL bandwagon and are content with mediocrity
Agree0

If victor goes to the EPL(when) he's easily a 85k pw player, ., .kbarry

It is okay if you got the money to pay the fee, but the wages they offer are less than what he has at celtic, and with very little hope of ever winning anything again, now I would stay and take a new deal at celtic 25/30 thousand a week untill the big guns come looking.
Agree2
Disagree0
So, the wages were £4k/week were they? Get real, you are being fed nonsense. You can find information detailing the type of wages Saints pay to their first team players, if you look hard enough. But you seem more inclined to believe fairy stories, so be it.
Agree0

Wanyama was on £5k a week and we offered him £25k to sign a new 4 year deal at the beginning of last season.
He has now lost out on £500k after tax for not accepting a new deal from us.
I heard he wants £40 - 50k a week in England.

I sincerely hope not, he had chances to come to Celtic but chased the dollar, now he's stuck and sees us as an easy payday till he hangs up his boots,,,, NO THANKS!!!

Heard that Lenny has offered to take him as a squad player, low basic wage, decent appearance bonus, though I believe Faddy would rather play every week, something that will never happen at Celtic.
Agree0

99.9% sure this won't happen. Gazdcelt
Agree0

I would like to see that happen SPL games he would be a star when others needed a rest maybe when ever he is ready, better still why not buy 10 21 year olds much like what has been got in last week give 4/5 year deals then you got a team that only the few can afford 10/20 plus fees.

Southampton appear to be close to pulling off a real coup - the signing of Victor Wanyama from Celtic for just 12.5 million pounds.
The back page of a paper says Wanyama spent Saturday in talks with Southampton on what would be a record fee secured by a Scottish club.
Wanyama, just 21, had an outstanding season for Celtic as they secured the Scottish league and cup double.
Believable1

Deals off. Wanyama declined there wage offer. They might come back with a better package for him but not for sure.

Yet Wanyama claims he is unaware of Southamptons interest? Sounds like he's fishing for another club to come in for him to me, such as Arsenal perhaps.
Agree0

Such a shame would love him another year here, he's an extremly important player 1. to southampton (i really hoped arsenal, or even a not english club like galatasaray or moskow because at southampton he'll just get relegated and play another 2 years without european football before moving on) 2. only for 12 million? I hoped at least 15 cause if we would get it in the end, why did we actually accept the 1. bid?? he doesn't even have to prove himself before going to the top teams, look how he played in europe, especialy barcelona!

Apparently Vic does not want to go to Southampton.
Agree0

The Edinburgh based paper says £12.5m a new Scottish record.
With CL money, Ki money and McGeady money and if Hooper goes, that's a £50m war chest right there
Agree0

Southampton deal is off. celtic agreed a 12m fee but the personal terms offered were apparently a "disgrace". I think inter galatasaray liverpool and arsenal will enter the running as these are the better calibre of clubs mentioned. more clubs - higher the bidding, would love him to stay but I can see a fee of 14m being offered
Agree0

I'd be amazed if he goes there! surely bigger teams will make a move for him now.
Agree1

Surely if we've accepted 12ish no 1 will bid 14 it'll b that or less and that's not bad business . Be gutted to c him go but keeps us thriving hail hail

As we have accepted a bid the other interested parties only have to match it, so to the poster talking of £14M, what we've accepted is now maximum we will get.

Terms were a 'disgrace'? So you were at the discussions?
Look if VW doesn't want to come to Saints then fine - no probs - he can saty at Celtic or wait for one of the big four to buy him.
We Saints don't have a problem with that but don't make things up - putting the word in inverted commas don't make it true!
