Clear this up plz bhoys,IF benfica bt barca&we win,they go through on head2head r if we better their win we go thru? So if we win 2-0 and they win 2-1 do we go through as our result is better? {Ed007's Note - If Benfica win in Barcelona and we beat Spartak, Benfica go through. It's our head to head with Benfica that counts, and they beat us 2-1 over the two legs against them. We need a better result than Benfica points wise, goal difference means nothing, goal difference is different than 'head to head'.}

goal diff only comes in to play if head to heads are the same. as it stands we need to beat moscow and barca to get a draw or win against benfica

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets celebrate the positive , we are in europa at worst so lets do the huddle

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks Ed, was just coming on to ask the same thing.

Come on Barca!!

Melb Bhoy

Agree0 Disagree1

Lets not fool ourselves a europa league spot is a plus as we are doing not bad getting a 3rd place at least good teams in the cl always win at home and pick up points away from home too in crucial games teams like barca and man utd seem in cruise control and can step up and play better when needed thats the key

A very nervous Celtic !

How did I just know it would come down to the last game & without Wanyama.

2 weeks to sort the nerves and we should get a result against Spartak.

If I'd been offered at the beginning of the this CL campaign 3rd place, I admit I would have taken it. But the bhoys & management have been tremendous and shown the world's greatest club competition that they are capable of well & truly competing in this.

I want the last 16 and will be disappointed if we don't finish 2nd.

COYBIG ~ Mrs E

Believable10 Unbelievable6

I want the last 16 too but if anybody had said a good run in CL group the europa at the start of the year I would have taken that. Barca will play a reduced team but their reserves are very capable of a result against Benfica.
Its a bit of a blow to lose Brown and Wanyama for the Moscow game but feel kayal needs a chance to prove himself this year.
I think wee need to get brown his surgery as soon as possible now.

For it bein the most important cl group game so far a thot we wer really really poor. Struggled 2 string 3 passes together thot wilson was amazin tho. We lacked any real attackin threat except set pieces thot watt should a been on 10/15 mins earlier. Seen people sayin hooper shouldnt hav started but a dissagree a felt sorry for him he had absolutely no service wot so ever n a would hav brought lassad or miku on before commons but still got this last game just seriously hopin barca can do us a favour and we go aw out attack from the start and steamroll spartak. Last 16 here we come. HH

Believable7 Unbelievable3

Apart from the spartak game away, pretty much most of the chances have came from set pieces. Can hardly say nothing was created tonight compared to the other games in the group so far

What a night to 'turn up missin' Bhoys! Sluggish, hesitant, dithery and to be honest deserved hee-haw.
Big Forster and Wilson were superb but too many were nervy and ineffective when it really mattered.
Very fed up watching us surrender possession and backing off and defending for 60-70% of games.
I know it's the CL and we are 'punching above our weight' but WHERE was the punch?
I knew we were up against it at a 'bogey' ground and the usual diving about pee and crap refereeing.
But Hooper and Brown were clearly unfit and the gamble failed tonight leaving us exposed and looking very average indeed.
Obviously the last game is must-win but it should have been so different with the right attitude.
The shadow of Lisbon can be too scary for some.
But hey that's why we love The Celtic; highs and lows and plenty more to come.....

Absolute crap , one of the hardest places to get a result in European football and your using words like sluggish ,didn't turn up ,dithery. Thought you knew more about football than to post p*** like that jj , thought we put in another very decent away performance again against a very good side.....Stevie

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry mate but got to agree with JJ.
Sat in house watching this with my dad n few mates and we're all saying the same thing.
Hooper & Brown are no where near match fit, especially for this level of game. One match too far for Brown before the surgery that is so obviously necessary. Think of this man's long term fitness, he cant go on with injections.
Hooper, short changed up front as we sat too deep and left the samaras/hooper mid-to-front area too far apart. look at the game we sat with 2 banks of 4 at the penalty box!
after the Barca result tonite, this was opp to push on and get the point we needed. That said, we're in the EL next yr where we can probably go further than just last 16 at best in CL. Overall I'm more than happy where we r when u think what expectations were at outset. Stevo Dundee

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm afraid we can't match the Barcas and Benficas technical ability to "push on" and control games , Lenny's tactics are pretty well spot on for this campaign of Champions league ,tonight we just came up short but still think it was a decent performance, i'm sure Barca will take care of Benfica and we'll be too strong at the fortress for Spartak. Last 16 here we come...... Stevie

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to Agree to disagree Stevie, I hoped for a wee bit more of a confident display, based on previous away games in Europe so far. Opinions will vary and that's what the site is all about. Cheers mate.

Unlucky Bhoys, really unlucky. We played well tonight and kept their chances to a minimum, don't forget, THEY were at home! So it comes down to matchday 6. We shouldn't get too complacent, Spartak are a good team, but we should beat them. Barca might throw out a slightly weakened team, but even that will be a hard game for Benfica.
Special mention tonight for big Kelvin, he was absolutely immense!
All in all, pleased with the way we played the game tonight.

Believable4 Unbelievable9

Rab are you for real mate we played well? We were a discrace could not make 2 passes. Btw Spartak were looking good against us until they had a man sent off. Its going to be a very hard last game.

Totally agree Rab, the imposter that says we were a disgrace should go back to watchin div 3 fitbaw......Stevie

Agree0 Disagree0

You must have been watching a different game from me sir. Here was an evening when we could have cemented our place in the last 32 of the worlds première club competition. Instead our team play with no self-belief or real desire. In my opinion this was the poorest Benfica team I have ever seen and looked there for the taking. Our second half performance was a major dissapointment. Too many players particularly midfield (except the excellent) Wanyama failed to show. It's especially disappointing when a youngster who is only marking time before moving to pastures new continues to be on a weekly basis the backbone of the team. Can we play him in disguise against the Russians?

Got pre-match nerves like naebdys business.
This is the hardest game yet and we don't have a good record there, but it's our strongest team and if they are all at their best....here's hoping!
I hope The Lisbon Hype is motivating and not too distracting as everybody's tipping us (except 'Uncle Fester' sitting in Sly studio) and I don't enjoy that.
But I sincerely hope the Bhoys keep up this magical run and play their hearts out for the jerseys.

So, a draw wouldn't necesarily clinch it tonight, right? We'd not want to get beat when Spartak come to town, and even if we were barca could hold the line? I was hoping a point would be enough tonight - but it looks like we might as well go for it from the Spartak results. Its us or them: let them have it, bhoys

Score draw is enough tonight

In the heat of Lisbon,
The fans came in their thousands,
To see the bhoys become,
CHAMPIONS SIXTY-SEVEN.

Rangers tried to beat Celtic's 9IAR and failed in their efforts to become champions of the continent of Europe.
They died trying to be everything that was Celtic.
They died chasing lions.

Believable2 Unbelievable8

I wasn't alive for Lisbon, I have been all over Europe watching the Hoops including Seville. Still got a season ticket and get to the odd away game but can't afford Euro trips after having my wee son born in May. We won the league, Rangers died and we are holding our own in the Champions League. Add to that my son being born and this is probably the best year of my life.

They Died Chasing Lions!

Really looking forward to tonights game hopefully we can sneak a win and I'm confident Spartak will get a result, Barca don't like playing in the cold or rain (one of the reasons we won) was wishful thinking at the start of the group stages but I put 100 quid on Celtic topping the group, let's just say I'll be a very rich Bhoy if it comes true. I believed that we should have beaten Benfica at Paradise.
We had key players missing and I remember saying afterwards that a draw in Portugal was a very realistic possibility and with all our squad available with fire in their bellies, we could possibly beat them.
They need to win its their bust game.
We need to win to go through. We are better than they are, that's why we're above them.
It's going to be a cracker don't miss it.

Believable6 Unbelievable3

We should have beat them at parkhead, but hopefully that result wont bite us in the backside! The pressure truly is on them and not sure they can handle it!

I think we will be lucky to get a draw tonight, but that should be enough.
