Was having a look at some available players on a free that could do a job for us. Mladan Petric William Gallas. Anyone else think they're worth taking a punt on?

Believable21 Unbelievable9

But we can still sign free agents up until the Champions League cut off yeah?

It seems a no brainer to go for Carlton Cole or Mladen Petric to bolster up front. You may bad mouth Cole but he has experience at high level, could lead the line and has decent quality. Petric, he would give experience and has a decent eye for goal. Dangle a a one yr contract (with possible extension) that will give them Champs League football plus at least one medal (let's be honest). They could both or either do a job.

Before anyone mentions wages, 2 things, they are free so that would offset higher wages (ie we could pay higher than normal) and there would be defo be barter room anyway with them at this late stage.

Thoughts?

Agree1 Disagree2

Petric, defo, but we can't pay theWAGES!START getting REAL, Bhoys. Happy with the biz.speedy winger, Tall c.d. Striker.midfield enforcer.If we have got our scouting right, bring on the champions league. just love to see more kids play in the league.H.H.al geri

Wouldnt touch gallas. He is a big wean and not worthy of our jersey

Agree0 Disagree0

It's easy to say don't worry about wages cause offset by free transfer but what about the other players? I've heard (not sure if true or applicable to Celtic players) that some player have highest earner clauses in contracts that dictates a pay rise if a player is given a higher salary than theirs. Even if a highest earner contract doesn't apply, other player may become unsettled by bringing players in on higher salaries who may not still have it to play at highest level.

Agree0 Disagree0

Granted Gallas's wages would be too high. but I wouldn't want him anyway!

But both Petric and Cole would be affordable and would add something positive up front.

Remember no fee to pay so just wages to sort means there is room to manoeuvre!

And minimal risk if its a one year deal.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think any of them are really going to help us! Can't believe we never bought a cb or even tried or another cf and still let watt go on loan it's a f*cking joke

Agree0 Disagree0

I reckon this window has been more than alright in comparison to many recent ones. Granted, we had a power of real wealth behind us that we have never had before but we seem to also have a fiscal discipline which may well be the future of world football-we could be ahead of the game. Virgil looks immense, big deek, the same. Balde will be one to settle in and hopefully Pukki can do the business. With very few exceptions I reckon most people on here had never even heard of Finbogasson beofre this window yet every ones crying out for him now. Also, sending Big Time Charlie/Tony Watt out on deal is one of the best bits of man-management ever. Daviebhoy77

Agree0 Disagree0

What about papa diop, Titus bramble, Michael Owen, John Carew, Louis Saha all out of contract and wouldn't command big wages, surely least 1could do a job for a yr. ajw {Ed007's Note - Saha has retired, Carew is in worse shape than The Slug from what I have been told. They are all too old though imo and I would rather see our youngsters getting a game.}

Agree0 Disagree0

One free agent we should be looking at is Craig Gordon, sign him on a short term contract to prove his fitness, if he comes through he would be a great addition and could then be offered a longer deal .

Agree1 Disagree0

Ed is j a riise out of contract as think he'd be a cracking signing still do a job at 32 33 cheers
Cha67 {Ed001's Note - next summer his contract finishes.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Rumour here is Gallas is coming to Melbourne Victory as a marquee signing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed is hitzelberger a free?

SOS BHOY {Ed007's Note - Yes.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Glad i'm not the only one who's quite pleased with our business. would have liked another defender (although verdict is still out on myokolo so might as well give him chance - we now have him, mulgrew, ambrose and virgil as CBs but i'd rather have signed ciani and moved mulgrew to the left to give izzy competition). could have done with another attacking player - not necessarily an out and out striker but somebody who could compete with commons or forrest. would have loved if the piatti rumour was true.

Agree0 Disagree0

Forgot to mention i'd take petric straight away, think we'd get a couple of good seasons out of him. he's the wrong side of 30 but his track record speaks for itself, unlucky not to have got a proper chance at fulham. unsure about carlton cole - forget the rest.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have been slated for this already, and he certainly would not be my first choice, but Momo Sissoko - ex Killie defender, is a free agent and I always felt would be an option as a squad player/cover. Short term deal? Jean-Pierre Laguerre

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with jpl, sissoko,
Other player av free is madlung, German international cb

{Ed007's Note - There is a new poll up.

Are you disappointed by the club's dealings during the transfer window?

www.celticrumours.co.uk/poll16.html

Please take 2 mins to cast your vote, cheers.}

Believable11 Unbelievable17

Just voted yes Ed, but have kinda mixed views tbh.

I think my yes vote is purely down to Finnbogasson and going that extra mile, that one big signing the fans were crying out for.

We have bought in a few to be fair and we should all give them a fair crack of the whip. Time to get behind the boys.

Craigie_bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Ed, iam disappointed yeah think the board should have done a lot more on the Finnbogason deal, PL said last season we could spend up to £4 mill on 1 player? Also c/b was needed don't see what the issue was with Cani £1.7 mill was a steal for me, Lenny, the players and the fans deserve to see players like this, fell sorry for the manager & also starting to think if this £36 mill debt we in might be true. I know players knocked us back & spl not attractive but Board need to work harder when we get knocked back don't just accept it! I know PL done great stuff for the club but feel him & Desmond have let the manager down & feel we still short. 6 out, 10 in, we now be looking at free agents which might work but we shouldn't have to. The £1.6 mill offered for Tomlin and nothing bad to Lee think he a good player should have been put with the money we offered for Finnbogason, I know iam going on here but Billy Sharp would also have been a steal for us would have scored for fun up here. I hope you all not fell asleep yet & sorry for going on, hail hail Chris30

Agree0 Disagree0

Although disappointed I have just voted NO because the question has no simple provision for explanation. If I knew the intimate dealings and reasons for failures I could confidently vote. Recognising PL's performance to date I am inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Sunny Jim.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with Craigie_bhoy: the window was underwhelming - but I liked Amido in his first game, and Borigeter too. If this holding midfielder is up to speed I think we'll avoid a skelping in the group.

Agree0 Disagree0

Very disappointed and I personally feel that Lawell has wiped the eye (once again) of the Celtic faithful, through pushing his "YES" man Lennon to accepted second rate purchases.

Of course the now clichéd excuse of "We don't want to end up like Rangers" will be used to pan off any Celtic fans that dare vent their anger at not pushing the boat out on better players.

Yes we play in Scotland (not the most attractive league) but nowadays in football (which has been proven time and time again) money talks and with all the money that Celtic have racked in they could not splash out on Alfred finnbogason, bloody joke.

1: Derk Boerrigter, if this guy was so good and good enough for Celtic way did Ajax let him go? I think this guy won't see the light of day under Lennon, super sub could be his preferred position at Celtic over the coming season.

2: Teemu Pukki? Who is this guy? Apparently we had the chance to purchase Alfred finnbogason, who (from my understanding) is an absolute goal machine in the Dutch League but instead we opted for the cheaper option.

Teemu Pukki - International, Finland - Apps 24, Goals 6
Teemu Pukki - Senior career, FC Schalke 04 - Apps 24, Goals 6

Alfred finnbogason - International, Iceland - Apps 15, Goals 4
Alfred finnbogason - Senior career, SC Heerenveen - Apps 35, Goals 30

3: Amido Blade - Wont get a real look-in under Lennon and so far looks like another Mo Camara / Bangura mark two.

Lennon is well known to only gives new players 3 or 4 games to prove themselves and if they don't square up they are dropped to the bench and eventually cast off to the side.

4: Nir Biton?????? is it because he had a trail for Manchester City last year makes him good enough

5: Steven Mouyokolo - This is a real cock-up of a signing, scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Lisbon lion. Your a real glass half empty guy aren't you! SB

Agree0 Disagree0

Mite not b the names we wantes but give the guys a chance fs!

Fallon67

Agree0 Disagree0

Jeezo, you are the life and soul of the party ain't ya?

Might it not be an idea to wait and properly see what these guys are capable of before labelling them duds? And how can you compare Amido to Mo Camara who is a left back?

Mind me to shift seats if I'm ever pamped next to you at a game.

Agree0 Disagree0

Derk was let go be because bojan signed on loan from barca with a clause in the contract that when he if fit he must play so derk would be on the bench

SOS BHOY

Agree0 Disagree0

I think your spot on with everything you said Lisbon lion, but we must now get behind all the players that are here then hopefully they mite turnout to be major players for us.

Agree0 Disagree1

Well although I would loved a big name signing let's get real the days of Scottish clubs making big money signings are gone. the route we have taken of signing young players is the way to go. Also people are saying we are spending not money but if you look at who we have signed we have spent close to 10 mil in this window and from what I've seen so far of the new players this could be money well spent. so let's all get behind lenny and the players and heres to a good season

Agree0 Disagree0

@ Lisbon Lion. You seen to be disappointed, but if you dried your eyes and actually looked who we brought in and let them play a few games your opinion will change. No one heard of hooper of Waynama before they came here so hold your horses. We spent well and wisely this window. I would hate to sit next to you at the games you are so negative - bet you are one of the folk that storm out shouting 'im sending my season ticket back' lol SHottsBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm actually quite happy with who celtic have brought in during the transfer window. Ok the guys who have been brought in aren't your Larssons Suttons Or Hartsons because those days are gone but a few of the guys that have joined have came from clubs that are in a much better standard of league than ours. So I think we should wait and see how the season goes before we start criticising the players or the management.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we were too tentative in our bids for NL's top choices and have settled for cheaper 'off the radar' options (that I do hope work out well).
Was Finbogasson a smokescreen?
3 failed bids for Tomlin with hours to go really looks desperate and amateurish.

Jungle Jim

Agree0 Disagree0

Very disappointed. I have no problem with any of the signings, but clearly we did not make enough. Even the club believes this - hence our ridiculous attempts to get another striker on the final day (from P'boro). We had brought in Van Dijk and Mouyokolo for Rogne and Gershon (fine. ) but then Wilson was sold with Neil Lennon saying 'he is my No1 CB and I want him to stay', yet no replacement was brought in. 2 or 3M would have supplied an experienced physical CB who could strengthen the vulnerable spine of the team, allowing AMbrose, VAn Dijk etc to develop alongside him. The fact that we used Lustig (our No1 RB) at CB in the most important game of the season tells us that Neil can't trust the others at this stage. This is not appropriate for a team with serrious CL ambitions. If we have identified a need for a player, and don't get him, then we MUST have a 2nd and 3rd target lined up behind and simply go in and get them. Jean-Pierre Laguerre

Need to give the new guys a chance. I remember Kelvin Wilson's first season he was a bomb scare but slowly got on his feet and last year was quality.

Scottish Football has always been faster than other countries so will take most of the players time to settle and the fans have to be patient with all of them.

Agree0 Disagree0

As much as the board do a great job managing the club finances etc.i feel let down again in the transfer market they are not backing the manager enough.after coming thro wed we should have had players lined up.massive let down again by board in tm, we never seem to invest when in a position of strength.apart from the economy this is 1 of the reasons fans are not snapping st up because of board not doing enough in market

I was just wondering if someone did come in for Forster and he wanted to go are we able to bring in an emergency loan?

Darren {Ed007's Note - No, selling Forster would be seen as a self-inflicted wound.}

Believable2 Unbelievable1

By not selling Forster. or anybody else for that matter, I'm sure the board will point to this in days/weeks to come and spout utter pish about doing their best for the club to detract attention away from the total embarrassment of missing out on what other players where need to be signed!
I'm sure most know the patter they will come away with and for the younger posters on here, don't expect anything less as you get older.
If we all posted the top 5 excuses for not doing more and reasons why, we would all have 3/4 the same answers, it gets boring!
There's no doubting Lawwell has been great for the club, but given that we have generated £60mil (the last £15mil still en route) we should have been able to spend another 4/5mil on another 2 players?!

Agree0 Disagree1

Why the keeper on loan, is the reserve keeper injured? and what a pity concerning Lee Tomlin, seems he is a good'n

Agree0 Disagree0

Celtic have brought in a keeper from fulham on loan until December 31

Agree0 Disagree0

The keeper they brought In is a SEASON long loan

Agree0 Disagree0

The reserve keeper? The fact of the matter is - If Forster leaves before 11pm tonight we'll be left with Lukasz Zaluska, Leo Fasan (a 19 year old Italian who hasn't played a single senior game) and the loanee from Fulham who is a 17 year old, again without a senior appearance to his name).

Agree0 Disagree0

Ghuys - worth remembering we would be able to sign a free-agent keeper to replace Forster. I agree however, it would be suicidal to let him go at this stage, and highlight more than ever the negligence in selling the 'spine of the team' in 1 go. Extzremely bad management. Jean-Pierre Laguerre

Joe Ledley on a Flybe flight heading down south, potential move? {Ed007's Note - Or away to meet up with the Welsh squad who are travelling to play Macedonia on Friday night.}

Believable0 Unbelievable19

Listening to Joe Ledley he is now definitely one of us. Don't think he'll be leaving unless the club tell him his time is up. Possibly if his home town club come back in then he might have a look at that but that in my opinion would be fair enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol too funny ed!
Tam {Ed007's Note - You have no idea how many posts and messages all of us Eds have had today about players being spotted at airports. Even if they aren't on international duty they might be going home for a few days or having a break with their family.}

Celtic signed 18year Old GK Max Oberscmidt from Fulham on a season long loan last night

AB

Believable11 Unbelievable8

Not season long but to 31st December 2013 according to Fulham official website.

Agree0 Disagree0

This signing would indicate that forster is on his way out of parkhead. with this signing being back up to zaluska.

Agree0 Disagree1

Even if we were to sell Forster (which I doubt) we would need to have signed a much better replacement for CL football.
But WTF I thought we would sign a decent striker to replace Hooper!
