As pre-season begins so early due to the CL qualifying campaign the club are looking to get players moved on and brought in asap.

Lennon has 4 areas he wants to fill with quality. Central defence, a left winger, a striker and an additional left back to compete with Izzy.

I've only heard mentions of some of the defenders targeted so far:

Valentin Roberge & Ragnur Sigursson are the 2 main central defenders. Roberge is a bit more cultured than Sigursson but both are considered steady and Sigursson has european experience with Copenhagen.

Pierre Bengston & Markus Suttner are the left back options. Bengston is another of the Copenhagen back line and Suttner has been superb in Austrai Vienna's title win this year.

Believable6 Unbelievable5

Unfortunately I don't think we'll be able to sign many players until (if) we qualify for the group stages.

Agree0 Disagree0

The club reason the club is moving early is because the group stages are again one of the main aims for next season.

As none of the players play for major european teams this should help give a platform for players to come and make an impression much like Hooper and Wanyama have done.

Agree0 Disagree0

The french lad is about to sign for Sunderland. Only seen Bengtsson play and he looks decent.

JimTim

Agree0 Disagree0

Roberge's contract is about to end so his agent is in talks with a few clubs. We are one of them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bengtsson has the same problem as Izzy. wins nothing in the air. We are vulnerable to diagonal balls/back post crosses while we persist with players like this. bengtsson struggles to make the Sweden team for that very reason. jean-Pierre Laguerre.

tv has us linked with 2 Newcastle players, Paul Dummett and Conor Newton. Both were on loan at St Mirren last season. If this is true I have to say I'm a bit worried. Over the past 3/4 years our scouting staff have been nothing short of world class, but surely the aim for next season is maintaining a team to qualify for CL. If we lose big Vic and to a lesser extent Hooper, can't see it happening at all with signings like this. Come on Dermott, time to splash the cash.

Believable4 Unbelievable11

I'm guessing the 3/4 years and scouts world class was just being biased?
Agree with they 2 guys aren't what we need, both decent especially Newton but not what we should be aiming for!

Bigbadjohn

Agree1 Disagree1

Tell me how the scouting team has been world class? wanyama forster hooper mathews and izaguirre 5 good players doesn't make world class. majstorovic bangura rogne cha du ri zaluska murphy ibrahim mcginn crosas mizuno juarez ljungberg kapo el kaddouri hooiveld brozek blackman miku gershon all kinda suggest that its actually quite a comical setup

Agree0 Disagree2

A can't even mind them playing for them

Agree0 Disagree1

Just to clarify, more than half those players were at Celtic when Lennon and his back room staff took control. And he got rid of them. The rest are loans or were free players aswell. Can't believe these two players can be any better than the players already in our reserves though.

Agree0 Disagree0

@2) From the tone of your post can I assume you are saying the scouting team haven't been good then? What an absolute joke of a post.

That list of players you rhymed off there cost the club around 9 million

Bangura 2.2 million (Made half of the fee back in loan fee's with wages covered aswell)

Murphy 1.3 million

McGinn 200k

Crosas 1 million

Mizuno 300k

Hooiveld 1. 5 (sold for 1. 3)

Efrain Juarez 2.5 million (Sold for 1.6 million, also got a loan fee from zaragoza for season long loan)

Rogne, Majstorovic, Ibrahim, Cha Du Ri, Zaluska, Ljunberg, Kapo, El Kaddouri, Brozek, Blackman, Gershon and Miku were all free or loaned.

Wanyama alone will recoup more than that when he goes. Add to that the value of free transfers Joe Ledley, Adam Mathews and Lustig and its safe to say the numbers are in the scouting teams favour.

I would like you to name 1 team with similar resources as Celtic that haven't made bad signings.

Agree2 Disagree1

@5 well if you think its do with the value of players fair enough. juarez cost celtic £4 million and they received less than £1 million back crosas cost £1.6 million celtic got £300k back. hooiveld cost £2 million they received £1.1 million back murphy cost £1.8 million with him just about to leave for free. mcginn cost £200k left for free. all the loans cost money and the free's signing on fee's and wages so you obviously know nothing. celtic have lost a hell of a lot of money on every player on my post before.

Derby County have bid £1. 25 million for Russell can't imagine us being out bid by a team like this.
Come on Lenny get your finger out.

Believable6 Unbelievable3

Does the transfer window not start on the 1st of july in scotland?,, deep river bhoy

Agree1 Disagree0

I agree Russell is the dogs b******* a good player we could make him into a great player, defo worth a punt, when HOOPER stays he will bring the best out in him knowing he is fighting for his place, HOOPER, is holding on until club up offer in wages which they will l, legend67

Agree2 Disagree0

Good player but is he worth 1. 25 mil don't think so

Agree1 Disagree0

I keep looking for transfer news about Russell I really want this lad at Celtic next season and I think a lot of Celtic fans seem the same not seen one post saying they don't want him he would be a great addition to our team come on Lennon snap this lad up now give the fans what they want not those two from Newcastle.

Agree1 Disagree0

We wanted him last season and we got Lassad and Miku so don't hold your breath.
I would love to see him in the Hoops as he is a great talent and he is a Celtic supporter, however we seem to concentrate on bargain buys abroad than pay over £1m to another SPL team. Which is a pity as keeping the player AND the cash in Scotland would be a huge bonus.
If we didn't have Watt I'm sure he would be at Celtic by now, but who knows?

According to sly sports lech Poznan accepted 2.5 million bid for tonev if true Paul lamberts a fanny. Ghreenbhoy1888

Believable9 Unbelievable8

Martin o used to do it to us too, must be a villa thing, he took the USA goalie,

Enjoy Europe tonev, not

Ska Bhoy

Agree1 Disagree0

No harm mate but If true Paul Lambert is doing business. It does not make him any type of 'anny. I watched him give his all for CFC including losing his front teeth after the thug Albertz deliberately kneed him full force in the gub. BTW they got a pen for it! No surprises there. If its true I am a bit miffed as the boy looks like a player but if he is chasing the money and does not care about coming 16 th in the table its up to him. I see it as a destinct lack of ambition and taking the easy soft route. I prefer players with a bit ofcharacter and heart pulling on the Hoops. Players like Lambert was in fact. Sopotcelt.

Agree0 Disagree0

If tonev goes to Aston villa instead of Celtic he's a complete fanny. Will be nice when he retires to have nothing in his trophy cabinet except a couple of polish league titles. Who chooses teams who nearly got relegated over a team who winning trophies and titles regularly and finished in the last 16 of camps league. Ridiculous really.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lambert is only doing what every manager should be doing in this economic climate-trying to snap up a bargain. how you can justify "he's a fanny" by doing what he's paid to do god only knows.

Agree0 Disagree1

We can't compete with epl sides. we have to try and get deals done quick but easier said than done. let's move on to our next target

Agree0 Disagree0

Just because poz accepted it doesn't mean its a done deal

Agree0 Disagree0

Im not sure we were really after Tonev. Our scouts are inclined to keep our business quiet. So Mr Lambert is welcome to this player as i'm sure we have other targets that we are keeping close to our chest. Julieghirl

Agree1 Disagree0

Paul Lambert and Aston Villa are as entitled to bid for any player as we are. Is Neil Lennon a f*nny if he gets a player someone else wanted? It's called business and Celtic would do it to another club given the chance so wind yer neck in and support our club.

Hail Hail
ChrisBlr

Agree1 Disagree0

Heard he wants to go to germany.

Agree0 Disagree0

Disgrace of an OP! for me Paul lambert is a celtic legend. As for the boy going to villa can u blame him if someone offered me 3 times my salary to go work in North Korea I would take it, we just can't compete with epl.

Agree1 Disagree0

I'd say Tonev is the fanny if he wants to go and fight for survival in the EPL instead of winning medals and playing in the CL. DH

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair the guy is only doing his job. However I did literally lol at that post. CraigyBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

The fact out scouting system has been so good lately could en up to be a double edged sword. Clubs will realise that if Celtic are interested in a player then more often than not, they'll be a good prospect and come in with better money. Oh well cest la vie
Kevbhoy

Agree1 Disagree0

He said he wants champions league football. He won't get that in any near centuries at Villa! His goal record for Poznan doesn't look that good either. Not the end of the world if he doesn't come to us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ignore all the derogatory comments about lambert & tonev.
Tonev was quoted in media as saying he wanted Europe &CL in particular.
Now A Villa are never going to be able to offer that so I can only assume that the fella has simply used our global name to promote himself.
Shallow persona and not wanted as far as i'm concerned.

Agree0 Disagree0

"According to Sly Sports"? If you want to believe that then that's your choice. It is no better than any rag in the newsagents. It panders to the gullible masses, particularly down south. As for what you called Lambert, below the belt, he is only doing his job, do you think we have a divine right to sign players? And who is to say we are even after him, more paper talk.

Agree0 Disagree0

The irony is that Big Vic chose Celtic over Villa because he wanted CL football. that shows the type of player we attract. winners! if he does move this summer it will be with a bag of trophies, experience and heading for another massive club.

Would anybody be happy if we signed Barry Bannan. IMO a cracking player, just needs the right team

Samson

Believable15 Unbelievable13

Linked with 2 Newcastle boys that had loans at st mired last year, left back and the midfielder boy, he impressed me last season, mixed it in there, looks a prospect
Defo need cover for izzy

Ska Bhoy

Agree0 Disagree2

I would be anything but happy if he signed. Another Ross Wallace / Brian Mcglaughlin type player. Villa were looking for 5m for him last year. No thanks. DH

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with the post above but is bannan not in the same mould as commons and rogic? Two left footed playmakers. Noel

Agree1 Disagree1

Overhyped youngster, who hasn't lived up to expectation. Wouldn't want him. Not good enough.

Agree1 Disagree1

Nah mate we have people like kayal who are better and he doesn't get a game

Always rated this guy, reminds me of Neil McCann a player who because of our penny pinching went across the city and came back to haunt us on a few occasions, and never appreciated by Knuckledragger FC (for obvious reasons). Stevie

Agree1 Disagree1

Far too many wee guys in the team. need a bit of muscle to bully and boss teams home and abroad.

Agree1 Disagree0

I would be very wary of signing a scottish international. I know some have done well for us but a player like bannan has bottled it in plenty of big games for scotland and doesn't know how to play in a winning team.
