Long time reader but first time poster. What does everybody think about getting Darren Bent on loan for the rest of the season.

Mrs M.

Believable6 Unbelievable28

WHOS GONNA PAY 90 GRAND A WEEK?Peter lawell or charles green? jimthetim. {Ed007's Note - Bent is on £60-65k a week Jim, but point taken.}

Agree1 Disagree0

He'd do very well for us but not worth anywhere near what he's on per week and he tends to go off the boil when he's not the centre piece of the team. i quite like the look of chris wood who's playing for millwall on loan from wba. scores all the time, has age on his side, available for 1.5 mil. we've done quite well with our championship recruits, would like to see us have a sly bid for him. definitely has the physical aspect that most of us agree we're lacking up front. kevslug.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Bent is a decent player but not worth the wages Mrs M.

Shame we never spotted Benteke before Villa, he's a class act.

Mac

Agree0 Disagree0

Great shout! Not getting anywhere near the Villa team, it would be beneficial to both parties, would score for fun up here and maximise Villa's selling price if he done well in the Champions league for us. Wages may be a problem but surely something could be worked out. Cheeky Bhoy

Has Mrs E divorced and remarried overnight, and is now Mrs M? Lol.... More names than that Given mob

If the latest rumours are true,Hooper has refused to sign a new contract, then i think it's time we took a stand against this attitude. We have an enormous game coming up,does he deserve a start? In my opinion no.By leaving him out i think we send the right message, loyalty is a two way street.Dont get me wrong,if he wants to leave that's his choice, and i would wish him well and thank him for his service, but play him ahead of someone who wants to be here? No.Hoops should think on,he may have played his last CL game........green jhedi

Believable14 Unbelievable8

F#%k him if he wants to golet him and dont play him next cl game he prob wont get to play in it ever again

Agree1 Disagree0

Shouldn't punish him for being ambitious! Been a great servant to the club and if he goes, well the best of luck to him! Lets just hope if he does go in January, we get crazy money for a replacement!

Agree1 Disagree1

If he doesn't sign a new deal by middle of jan then i would sell him before the window closes and bring in a replacement, ie charlie austin. as big a fan as i am of hooper he is not irreplaceble like wanyama is

Celticthomas

Agree0 Disagree0

No one player bigger than the club and no player irreplaceable. If players don't want to stay then get the best deal possible. And let NL get some cash to get replacements. Hbhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Let him go. He'll be back playing in the championship in two years. I can't blame him for wanting to play for his country or trying to get the best financial deal but I don't think he'll ever win the EPL playing for Southampton, QPR or any other of the also rans......

Agree0 Disagree0

Someone should tell Hooper and Wanyama about Liam Miller.

Agree2 Disagree0

I agree with what your saying if he wants to go then sell him but if he's still here when the champs league games are played why leave him out ? Cutting your nose off too spite your face say he plays and scores a few goals would only work in our favour get
More money for him he has wanted away since the summer and he's still being a proffesional and scoring goals so why not let him play he's our top scorer ?

Agree0 Disagree0

If we are to have any chance in this two leg affair Gary Hooper must play and will play as Neil Lennon had stated if he's fit he plays. I'm still hopeful Hooper will sign an improved contract. I think he more than deserves it. Ian L

Agree0 Disagree0

Once/if gary is offered a contract that puts him in the top bracket of earners, he will sign it.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have to say that if Hopper is here after Jan, then we HAVE to play him, he is very capable of scoring the winning CL goal & take us to the quarter-finals & earning a few more million. Yes it's a big ask, but look at our results this season in the CL (way beyond ANYBODIES expectations). No other team will be leaving there prolific goalscorers out of any CL games, & we def can't afford to.

Daily Fail claiming Hooper has turned down a new contract- any info ed?

KennyBhoy {Ed007's Note - I wouldn't recommend trusting them but the story doesn't surprise me in the slightest.}

Believable4 Unbelievable1

I don't believe it for a minute. Hooper will sign a new long term contract soon, he aint going anywhere.I've said it all along. {Ed007's Note - It is from Hooper's agent, the appropriately named Spieler.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Doesn't matter too much if he signs a new contract or not! If he signs on tomorrow morning he can still leave on the 1st of jan! Maybe add a mill or 2 onto his price tag?
Hopefully he's still in paradise for a bit yet tho!

Evening Ed and obdy else, I've just seen that javier saviola plays for Malaga. Which got me thinking about players that Celtic have missed on or not pushed the boat out for, what's every bodies thoughts? Obviously fantasy but not askin for the obvious ones ie Messi/Rooney/Ronaldo.
Middle of the road players that we could possibly have signed or you would maybe have liked? Ok players careers don't pan out the same, but humour me.....
Juninho and Dohrassoo from Lyon/ Huntelaar / Marc Janko/ Ginola/ dugarry/ Nigel De Jong/ all linked in the past. Del a Pena even came on trial but was eventually priced out of a move!!! I'm sure saviola left Madrid for nxt to nothing although wages would have been a problem but also don't think Benfica would have been paying mega either?!

Bigbadjohn

Believable1 Unbelievable5

Saviola think he now or was at madrid.

Agree0 Disagree0

Played in brazil, was at both barca and Madrid, left Madrid to benfica, as far as I know he's at Malaga? Thanks for your thoughts on others tho!!!
Bigbadjohn

Agree0 Disagree0

I appreciate your ambition, but lets be reminded where spending too much money has got a certain club, trying to reach for players they can't afford.

right now we are signing/stealing extremely affordable young players and good ones thanks to John Parks excellent scouting. We have the right balance now.

Also Malaga got Saviola as they have lots of cash, mind they got Van Nistelrooy a few years ago and Trezeguet. ok past their best but still commanding wages. We don't have that money but we now have a system that works.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok it's a Bloody rumour site I get that! I've read some pi$h on here for weeks/months that don't even make sense or its to do with sevco! I've asked a simple question and 2 from 2 didn't read the bloody question properly and I also said "humour me"which means (if your struggling)? Name a player you can think of which we could have signed or realistically "YOU" would have liked FFS... Sorry Bond for the swear words... I thought it was straight forward?
Bigbadjohn {Ed007's Note - Sadly John, even when some people try to be sensible, they fail miserably :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

One player I am really disappointed we missed out on was Markus henriksen this summer, think he has amazing potential and was in our price range. Also we had the chance to buy giroud before he went to Montpellier, think that would of worked out well

Junglebhoy33

Agree0 Disagree0

Malaga in a spot off financial bother, not paying wages etc and will be offloading players in the transfer window, hope we get them

Agree0 Disagree0

Markus henrikson and olivier giroud! linked with both and although i dont rate giroud arsenal spent alot of money on him and from what i remember we could have signed him from fc tours i think it was before he moved to montpelliere. As for henrikson, i think the board let lenny down with this one, he is a player we could be clearly be doing with now

Celticthomas

Agree0 Disagree0

I remember a good few years ago we were heavily linked with a 17 or 18 year old called Ibrahimavic* now that woulda been a good signing ed any info about that rumour back then if it was true or why it didnt happen? cheers
bigD {Ed007's Note - That's a new one for me......

Agree0 Disagree0

Saviola was offered to Celtic as part of the tie-in with Barcelona but MON didn't fancy him ( probably due to him not being a 7-foot hammer-thrower). Pity, since I remember him knocking parent-club Real Madrid out of the CL while on loan at Monaco.

I'd like to have seen Shay Given take over from Packie Bonner - definitely one that got away.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oops, getting my Saviolas and Morientes mixed up - it was the latter who was loaned to Monaco by Real and who ended up knocking them out of the CL in 2004. Saviola was offered to MON though, before going on loan to Monaco and then Seville.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2012 10:30:32
I too would've liked to have seen Shay Given between the posts. Not in the last couple of seasons though, partly because he doesn't seem as sharp, but mainly because we might have missed out on big Fritz and the star he is now.
Maybe in the O'Neil team ;) would've been the time, maybe we would've had a silver star on our crest had he been.. we'll never know.
It would've been good to see him come and play for the hoops he loves, and forgone the larger money contracts for the honour. Obviously that is a personal matter for players and their choices are theirs to make, can't criticise him for his choices, nor blame him.

Any player giving up mega-bucks to come and play for the hoops they love would be a joy to see. Could still get by on 25k a week methinks. I would've like to have seent hat happen, and i still would John.. allow me to indulge in a bit fantasy, maybe a player like Rooney would give up a pay day in China or an opportunity in the States to come and score goals for us one day, or for any of the Barca squad for example who become surplus to come out and say "I only want to play for Celtic"! That would be great and although unlikely, i get the sense that perhaps, just maybe, it's not too far out there..
the pea.

Agree0 Disagree1

Cheers to the guys that actually answered the question :) I actually forgot about Giroud and Henriksen but remembered the guys from away back? I've got one more tho, Alexander Frei?
Like I said career paths can change and don't always work out, looking at it.... A Shay Given 2/3yrs ago would have been totally different to the Shay Given that we didn't sign up yrs back?!

Bigbadjohn

Agree0 Disagree0

I would have loved ronaldinho to come from gremio instead of rafael scheit!! Sure he signed for PSG for peanuts then went to Barca for silly money. Imagine him running at broadfoot haha

We would all like to see a couple of quality additions to supplement/compliment the squad especially if one or two were to leave in January.
The consensus seems to be - target man/striker, centre back and creative midfielder, although NL has mentioned a left sided player.
I think the fact we reached the last 16 of the CL with the current squad could make NL a victim of his own success and it will be unlikely if we make any significant signings - unless a top player was to leave? There is also the fact that January is not the best market quality and price wise.
On reflection we are in a great position, but I think we are scoring less goals in the SPL, especially at home and have missed Stokes contribution up front.
I don't know what the situation is with his return? But I do know - apart from Hooper - there is not another 20+ goals a season player in the team.
What do you think?

Jungle Jim

Believable6 Unbelievable1

Why do people seem to think we need a CB. we have the best CB pairing we have had for years and they will only get better together given time. Rogne is still there and mulgrew, lustig and wanyama can all play there.
I would like to see a left back/mid to challenge izzy (aidan white looks the part) and a playmaker, someone that has the ability to feed hooper and score goals at the same time (similar to Naka or Lubo)

Celticthomas

Agree1 Disagree0

Your right mate I totally agree, I would like to see that target man come in January for a good fee as we have raked in 20 plus million, on another note if we sign anyone who doesn't play or wasn't registered for the cl,, could they play in the last 16?
We have a good CB pairing, I also agree with the guy above but we lose too many sloppy goals and it puts a bad reflection on the team, maybe a good experienced no nonsense to tighten up the back line?
if still be happy with the defenders even if we don't sign another Cb in Jan.
A playmaker is definetely on the cards but it has to be someone with good balance on the left handside as we have 4 good centre mids n Forrest is coming back for the right handside
Markmck

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with the idea of a tidy left sided play maker being brought in but I'd like to stick with the scouting policy rather than bringing in a super star or psuedo star who might upset the amazing dynamic that we have just now. Can anyone tell me if Ibrahim fits that bill? Honestly not seen enough of him to know what he is...Daviebhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Think we should get a real playmaker if we can someone with a killer pass and good vision if we dont have a good target man to put crosses in to then get someone who's passes can split defences for the quicker smaller guys up front
bigD

Agree0 Disagree0

I`m not Stokes biggest fan, but he can score goals, i dont think any of the strikers brought in last transfer window are up to it to hold down a first team place. If anything a super fast winger would be nice, but unless people leave during this window i can`t see it.
