Any truth in the rumour that if Moussa goes we'll try to bring in Dani Gomez from Real Madrid?

It was inevitable that Dembele would be sold but if it's this Summer then for me it's another slap in the face for fans. Talks of how we don't need to sell out best players clearly is a load of shite.

To sell your top striker with champs league coming up is madness when the only back up we have is griff. And any replacement coming in couldn't be trusted to slot right in to Brendan's play.

Maybe he wants to go if he thinks it's better for him. In that case it's better for all if he does As long as we get a good deal from it. If we keep him it would not be good for anyone an unhappy player and not a good advert for us bringing in new talent if they think we will stop them from achieving their dreams.

And in reality the team has time for the glue to set, this is only the early baby stages of this new era of what Celtic is, a powerhouse in europ I hope. If Dembele stays and wants to put Scottish football on the map again good on him, he could be as great as Larsson if he believes he can be the best.

Some bad news I'm afraid......

Chelsea and Celtic will hold further talks regarding the transfer of Moussa Dembele this week. The clubs agreed a fee - I don't know how much yet - 2 weeks ago but the player is again looking for assurances about game time from the London club.

Bummer but inevitable i think, Is it true Ed the clubs agreed a fee ages ago?, its the gametime that's holding it up?

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed007's Note - Yes. Dembele isn't going to go anywhere where he isn't playing regularly, that was the main reason he signed for us last summer. As far as I know Chelsea are the only club that has made a concrete offer so far.}

16 May 2017 14:01:04
If we are all honest we knew it was going to happen, maybe in the minority here but id be more worried about losing sinclair, been the standout performer for me this season, if he goes we have griff, apparently looking at musonda from chelsea, maybe a player/ cash deal for dembele?

Agree1 Disagree2

16 May 2017 14:04:17
In reality are Chelsea able to ensure game time? Costa, batshuayi, even Tammy Abraham when he comes back from loan? Maybe Abraham could do a swap + money deal with dembele.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Chelsea expect Costa to leave this summer and there's also question marks over Batshuayi's future but Dembele will still need to change his standpoint as Chelsea won't agree to his demands.}

16 May 2017 14:12:32
Bad news but we should get top dollar for him and can then bring a bit of quality in.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - The Solanke interest makes a lot more sense now too. If we sell Dembele and get Solanke in on the cheap it would be a fantastic piece of business by the Club.}

16 May 2017 14:24:52
Where did that come from? Not doubting you, would just to read more on it.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - It came from Ed002.}

16 May 2017 14:30:59
Any idea what the fee agreed is?

Also can the club not just make him stay for another year considering he is only 1 year into a 4 year contract?

The guy is a professional so he will probably just knuckle down and get on with his football and we can sell him in 2018 for a higher fee.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - So you want Celtic to agree a fee with a club then tell the player he's not for sale? That's just not going to happen.}

16 May 2017 15:00:46
solanke on the cheap would be fantasic buisness, no matter what happens we will still dominate in scotland but we need to improve for europe and i don't know if salanke would be more help than dembele.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - From what I've seen and read about Solanke he has a lot more strings to his bow than Dembele plus he is seriously rapid. I wouldn't expect him to score as many as Dembele but he would bring a lot more to the team's game than Dembele who spends a lot of the game isolated but is absolutely deadly in the box.}

16 May 2017 15:38:40
Thanks for the info Eds. Said it before, I'll say it again. Solanke will be a great bit of business. Surely with the spare change we could be looking at Roberts, a top quality CAM plus a CB or 'keeper.

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - It's part hunch part wishful thinking but I'm quietly confident that Roberts will be a Celtic player next season, sadly I think it will only be another loan.}

16 May 2017 16:11:52
Any chance we sell him to Chelsea and they loan him back for the season. Giving him game time and us time to find the best replacement?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - No.}

16 May 2017 16:16:21
Do City hold him in their plans Ed? I could see them loaning him to possibly an EPL side where he could feature if he is part of their plans. I hope not though.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Roberts hasn't been part of City's plans since last summer.}

16 May 2017 15:53:33
Would be sad to see him go but for the cash we could take in we could get a striker in and strengthen other areas, Getting the lad for what we did in the summer was a masterstroke. If he does go i think we will come out if it stronger.

Agree0 Disagree1

16 May 2017 16:25:22
I'm not saying it won't happen but did dembele not say just yesterday that he was looking to improve with us next season and have a better champions league campaign . I appreciate he will leave, but personally I don't think it wouldn't be at least until the qualifiers are over . If we sold him, never got through to the champions league the fans wouldn't be happy. What would be the point of getting 20/ 25 million now if we lost out on the same amount by not qualifying. I've read this site for years, and while I appreciate "ed" is passing on info, not all of it is always correct. Hopefully, this is one of them times when he's been passed on bad info!

Agree0 Disagree1

16 May 2017 16:03:46
Never thought about that there lol.

I am surprised that the club have agreed to sell Dembele considering the financial position we are in. Should we be worried that Lawell is reverting back to his old ways? Money before progress?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Celtic don't need to sell Dembele and there's no way any kind of deal has got this far without Brendan Rodgers' blessing.}

16 May 2017 16:54:30
If he's not part of City's plans Ed why do you think we might only see him back on loan Ed? The cash?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I think Paddy is holding onto the hope that he will eventually get a chance at City so a lot will depend on what's said during the summer when he returns to City.}

16 May 2017 18:18:25
Its sad in a way about Moussa Dembele But not kidding ourselves on it was coming sooner or latter I don't know about the situation with Paddy and maybe Celtic have tried this before but why don't we ask to bring Paddy in on a contract and give Man City first option to get him back with a release clause solely for Man City?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I don't know if we have tried that bit those kind of deals are quite common on the continent with young players. What I did notice in an interview with Rodgers the other week

"If there is a possibility he is coming back as a permanent player then Celtic will have a good feeling for him. You can have first refusal, but it doesn’t really come into it unless the player wants to come back."

Has Brendan Rodgers let slip that we have first refusal on Roberts? If City are selling AND we can afford it AND Paddy wants it that's it a done deal?}

16 May 2017 18:46:07
To be honest if Dembele does leave i'm not to worried.
Players are always going to come and go but for the first time in a long time I have faith in the manager to replace any departing player with a quality replacement.

If the fee is anywhere near 20 million get moussa sold now! However we must spend everything that we bring in. Just my opinion but I think moussa will be here next season. Brendan won't authorise the sale.

Evening Ed,

There was also serious talk about another Chelsea youngster already having been shown around CP mate a think it was something like Charley Musonda? but that would probably rule out Paddy

But if you could get the TWO of them lol as part of a deal for MD go the other way that would be a great piece of business (y)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Musonda was supposedly shown around CP and the training ground last week but I don't know how reliable that is mate. Solanke's a free agent so Chelsea can't include him in any deal.}

16 May 2017 20:23:24
If MD goes and we secure PR (huge if) I would be happy enough especially if Solanke or Onyekuru could be brought in. Moose is really attached to first team football and rightly so. Like I said last night, happy enough if he stays too. Win win for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 May 2017 20:32:01
The only way this rumour makes any sense is if the agreed fee is over forty million, the player is happy here, he is one year into s four year contract, he is young, he will only get better, he is an asset to the team in defence as well as attack. he will be of great help if we are to advance in europe, it is madness to think about selling him just now, others, like solanke. might look good on paper, bit Dembelle.

Agree1 Disagree0

16 May 2017 20:53:02
Agree about solanke ed we hadnt heard much about moussa and he turned not too bad.

This is a right kick in the plums. I was convinced we would get another season out of him. I was hoping we would keep all our first choice players and add some quality reinforcements.

Some of BRs comments in the interview with Chris Sutton make more sense now. When he said that the reality is that there is "a natural parting of the ways" with some players. He also mentioned that it was "immoral" to try to retain players on £10k a week if someone offers them £80k a week. It would appear he may have had MD in mind when offering these words.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 May 2017 22:39:38
Be sorry to see MD go but his injury record this season is a bit worrying (injured 3 times in last 6 months) . £25m+ for a player who could be injury prone would be sinsible business.

I'm very much with Aindoh on the matter: short of 40M+ coming in, keeping Moussa should be a no-brainer: yes, its a risk that the investment will ever mature, but that's true with any signing. Meanwhile we have a committed, first rate striker, the envy of many sides in Europe.

If he left we would be forced to put all this talk about our special year in perspective: it can't be all that if we can't hold on to our brightest hope in years through one season.

Besides, a half decent CL run would offset a 20M sale no probs.
