My mate was saying Celtic have met with Solanke about his role within the club prior to a deal being made? Has anyone or ED seen anything about this? Probably drivel but thought I would ask.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Yes there has been talks with the player and his agent, it'll come down to money.}

12 May 2017 13:34:26
If we signed Solanke and keep Dembele we'll be looking really promising in the forward dept.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Do you think LG could leave if we sign Solanke? I'd say that would push The Thumb down to 3rd choice and he quite rightly isn't going to be happy about that.}

12 May 2017 13:44:13
He'd be within his rights to be unhappy Ed, aye. LG has his limitations but he's been great for us domestically. We need three strikers though. Looking forward, I'd have Dembele as 1st pick, as we've seen, and Solanke as back up once he's shown he can fit in and start scoring. If LG was being kept out on merit, then he'd be free to go in my eyes should he wish. We'd then be left with little choice but to promote a youngster.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I've always got the impression that Rodgers isn't a Griffiths fan, even before he spoke to the press about him in January about him needing to shape up. Remember when Rodgers first came in and was asked about Griffiths and him scoring 40 goals last season he replied something like 'But I wasn't here last year', which I thought was a bit of an offhand reply.
I was thinking along the lines that we would target a youngster like an Ajer or Eboue Kouassi that would love the chance to come into a massive club like Celtic, working with and learning from Rodgers and his staff etc and would be happy to bide his time playing in the odd game for a year or so.}

12 May 2017 14:17:01
I think you might be right with that impression. I'm going to call it and say Solanke is being lined up as second choice striker, who will get plenty of time to impress. Even a third choice striker would have had plenty chances this season had we opted to use one!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - If you play with a lone striker you need 3 in your squad, any less and you'll be in trouble at some point as we seen.
Could LG be moved on, Solanke brought in and Aitchison made the 3rd, would you be happy with that?}

12 May 2017 14:22:57
What would you say the chances of solanke signing are ED? I'm really hoping we get him, he must be the real deal and if his attitude is correct he will be a success. Only time will tell.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - There's definitely a chance but he will need to drop his financial demands. If another club offers him what he wants he'll go to them, there is a vaguely related family member supporting Solanke in his quest for very large sums of money.}

12 May 2017 14:29:36
It great to see Celtic showing some business nounce with regards to finding these young players at end of contracts. Snapping them up on cheap fees because of the development fee loop hole. Celtic is becoming more appealing to these types of players as we are given them a massive platform to develop and showcase themselves. I think Griffiths would stick around unless we signed an out and out striker. This lad appears to be a winger from what I have heard.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - No mate, Solanke can play anywhere in the final third but his
preferred position is a striker and that's where he sees himself playing.
Srdan Plavsic who we were linked to yesterday is a right winger.}

12 May 2017 14:36:20
Is his natural position not AMR Ed?, maybe getting brought in to replace roberts?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - No, his natural position is a striker. Google this lol

Celtic favourites to sign Chelsea striker Dominic Solanke

12 May 2017 14:50:03
i wouldn't let LG go he is needed here. it all what iffs but who said the young guy solanke is going to be another moose what if he doesn't like playing and staying in glasgow, its better we keep LG until the we find out.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 May 2017 15:16:50
I would be very happy with that Ed. Said on here before, given the opportunity with cross border rules, Solanke is pretty high up my list and ticks all the boxes as to what we're after. Are Chelski after 8m for him off an English side?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - That's what's been estimated a tribunal would rule as a fee if he joined another English side.}

12 May 2017 15:40:32
i read that he`s worth 1.7million, is that right.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - His personal wealth? I have no idea of that.}

12 May 2017 15:53:14
I don't think I'd be happy with Moussa, Solanke and Aitchison tbh Ed. LG comes with a guarantee of goals and if Solanke was to come and not settle or not hit some good form then I wouldn't like to see us relying on a 17 year old rookie to win us vital games if anything happened to Moose.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It would be Solanke that would come in if Dembele got injured.}

12 May 2017 16:01:24
i mean to sign him and he would be a replacement for roberts, i don't know much about him, i have just done some research on him and im useless on computers and internet reseaerch so don't know if the places i searched are reliable or not lol, but its still to early to say what's happening, im sure BR has a few tricks up his sleeve. HH.

Is solanke better than Griff? Or is he just promising with an inflated price tag due to the team and league he plays in . The main positive would be the cross border price like moussa.

Bit tough to call right now Delbhoy. Like I said when Dembele signed though, give him a few years and I think he'll hit a level of player which we wouldn't be able to afford. He's got a lot of attributes I like in a lone striker. Big, powerful, good feet, comfortable all over the final third. Not a million miles from Dembele really in terms of the 'type' of forward they are. It would be a real good bit of business. Just taking Kolo of the wage bill as a player would all but cover his salary I would have thought. No brainer for me.

12 May 2017 17:42:18
LG is a proven 40 goals striker, I would keep him.
At some point the moose will move on and I can't see solanke sticking around if the reports being money motivated are true. There is a risk to keep recruitment continuous and hit the mark. I think keeping LG - who could run riot domestically wouldn't be a good move.

Jim tim! I only asked as I only know what's been reported on solanke. Dembele scored well for Fulham and it was well documented he was in demand! But if Liverpool were offering 8 million? Then a cross border fee would be an another amazing coupe.

12 May 2017 18:28:08
Solanke can play anywhere across front 3. Watched a bit of him at Vitesse a d he's comfortable on either wing and has pace to burn

Sinclair Dembele Solanke

Subs - Griffiths Forest and potentially the Serb winger

It also gives us the option of the 3rd striker as if Dembele and Griffiths are out Solanke can move into the middle. Would be a great signing IMO.

Sorry Ed, just getting round to reading your reply. I mentioned Aitchison just in terms if Solanke potentially not settling and not hitting the form everyone would hope, in which case I wouldn't be keen to lose a 40-goal striker unless we knew Solanke had settled well and was an able replacement.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - But that's the exact situation we ended up in this season when Dembele and Griffiths were out. I'm not saying I want LG sold but if we're targeting someone like Solanke it doesn't say much for Rodgers' thoughts on him and I can't see him being happy not even making the bench, not many strikers of LG's quality would be.}

12 May 2017 22:03:35
LG must stay. He has to be the one constant in the next 4 years. MD will be here one for season. Solanke could be similar. Think we may be getting our hopes up on Solanke in terms of ability. He's about 20 years old with about 10 goals to his name. And not like Moussa who had double that and also at a better level in the english championship. I certainly wouldn't give this guy Sinclair/ Moussa level wages.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Neither would I mate. Yeah he deserves a few extra grand because we're getting him so cheaply but I wouldn't be spending a major piece of the wage budget on him. I'm not sure he has the right attitude to play for us, he seems a bit of a Pogba type character, all bling and his head shoved up his own ass. It's just all about the money to him and I imagine him as the total opposite of Dembele.
Rodgers knows the kid well though and if anything happens we should trust him and his staff's judgement, it could be the making of him as a man and a footballer, he'll soon get taken down a peg or two in our changing room if it's needed.}

13 May 2017 00:42:54
I just don't see the point in demoting Griffiths to third choice striker for a guy whose not really proven at any level, even the dutch league. Like you Ed I'd rather we brought in a youngster whose hungry for something other than money. Reminds me a lot of Jerome Sinclair going to Watford last year. Probably went for "first team football" when in reality he just wanted decent cash and hasn't bothered his backside getting into their that team. The fact Solanke is English puts me off too. We know they like to overrate their youngsters. Sterling and Stones being the prime examples. As long as you don't have 2 left feet you are worth at least £10m down there.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It's a strange one and I'll be surprised if we ever find out what it would mean to LG's Hoops career if Solanke signed, RB Leipzig have shown interest and would probably be willing to pay the money he wants.
I'm probably reading too much into it but I just got a hunch if there was a deal available to sell LG Rodgers wouldn't stand in his way.}

13 May 2017 20:09:38
Just read your post about solanke and his pogba like attitude
Alarm bells of Rodgers last attempt to get the best out of this type of player balotelli
Cost him his job at Liverpool,
Is there much in the borini rumours that are circulated just now.

Not sure but the reports indicate he knows him from the time at Chelsea.
