What about a loan for raheem sterling?
S4mmy1888

Believable6 Unbelievable28

No chance! FADED AWAY BADLY lat season. Now in trubl wi the cops.

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't waste anymore money on loaners get finnbogason or johannsson. work this out we offrd hooper say £22k pw.sold him got £5.2m, why can't we get Finn for say £5m on £15k pw, that still leaves us a profit with a better player and fans happy.

Agree5 Disagree1

Great to see the board acted quickly and got some quality in before the registration deadline.oh wait.

Agree1 Disagree0

The one whos just been arrested AGAIN? nah just having stokes is enuf aggro for the whole club

Agree0 Disagree0

Appalled. Bratislava has got to still be fresh in lennons mind.

They will treat this mob lightly at their peril.

Wonder what guff we'll get hit with when we are in europa league.

Disappointing.(watch this post get vetoed like my last 3 for having my opinion)

King Erse

Agree0 Disagree0

Whatever happened to youth. it seems that everyone, including management will look anywhere except to Celtic park to replace exiting players. how much does Lennoxtown cost, and how many young players have had careers wasted by fear of putting them into top team?

Augsburg bid £3.8m for Finnbogason was rejected.

Believable16 Unbelievable12

I think we can write this one off now a Bundesliga team are bidding, even a bottom of the table team would have far more spending power than us.
A real pity!
Bobo

Agree0 Disagree4

Think lazio in the mix now so I think it's highly unlikely we will see him in the hoops a real shame.
NeilOB

Agree1 Disagree1

We are playing a dangerous game. Our squad is threadbare and vulnerable. No doubt clubs are out to exploit our position and PL is trying to buy as cheaply as possible. Meantime we could get knocked out of Europe while we dither. Hopefully, we can trust that PL has it under control.

Sunny Jim.

Agree1 Disagree0

I agree with the above, some reports now are that Lazio are showing an interest.

Delbhoy

Agree1 Disagree0

Biscuit tin mentality again. Dithering on a great player at a good price and letting everyone else bid. We've lost another one. *sigh* Lazio now chasing.

Agree1 Disagree0

Think we're still in with a shout if we qualify for the group stages, that's crucial.Italian football isn't what it was and if the player scores a couple in the group stages and 20 in the league his value rockets.Lenny obviously thinks he's good enough to pay top dollar hence us still being on the scene, as I said the group stages are the key.
Kev, Derry

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope we are still in for a shout but we can't wait that long he will be snapped up in the next 2 or 3 days max

Question for 007, did you ban me? If so what for? Thanks.

Sydney! {Ed007's Note - Is that Syd from the Man Utd page? No mate of course I didn't. Are you having problems?}

Agree0 Disagree0

It's me Ed and I am having problems on the MU page, it's happened before mind and Ed001 sorted it out then.

ED, Any word on transfers likely to happen today?

Hail Hail
ChrisBhoy {Ed007's Note - I have not Chris. If there is I would doubt it will be Finnbogason.}

Believable9 Unbelievable7

Why do you doubt it'll be Finny ed?

Quack {Ed007's Note - The time-scale. I have suspected all along that CL football would need to be achieved before any deal for Finnbogason would be completed. The player wants to play in the CL.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I suspect you may be right Ed. I get the feeling we won't bring in anyone of real quality until we know if we have CL football to look forward to, and even then we might try to do things with our usual budget style approach. That in itself could be counter-productive because a quality player now could be the difference between us having CL football or settling for the Europa League. A conundrum indeed but past experience suggests Celtic will take a chance and sit tight.

Hail Hail
ChrisBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed - in your opinion, which is valued, do you thnk this deal will happen but just not in the next day or so? {Ed007's Note - Yes.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I know there is still time for us to bring in new players, I've got a bad feeling that once again the clubs ambition and the fans ambition are a million miles apart. I know that the days are gone when we spent £6m on a player 30k a week. We talk about the r@ngers fans getting short changed, in a way we are also getting short changed. Season tickets, new home & away tops. All we want to see is a bit of quality on that park and giving the big guns a run for their money on European nights at celtic park.

Agree2 Disagree0

Ed what is the situation with Finnboggason? Has there been a bid submitted? Is there talks ongoing or is it just paper talk? Once again the fans are being fleeced!

Ice man {Ed007's Note - There has been two bids, one from CFC and one from Ausburg, both have been rejected.}

Agree1 Disagree0

Why not Billy McKay? or is he not good enough for Celtic? seems to know what it is all about and knows where the goals are.

Agree2 Disagree0

Don't know why everyone getting worked up now about our spend policy.

Weeks ago I posted about this and was shot down in flames, don't want to end up like them etc etc etc.

My point was, sensible investment with a couple of "finished articles" were required long before now.

Stevo dundee

Agree0 Disagree0

The fans will do the talking with there feet if we don't bring in exciting players.am not saying bring in every player the fan wants but we need at least 2.if we had a choice of 2 players at resonable fees and wages who do you think the fans would want edd.

Agree1 Disagree0

Well said
Stevo Dundee

Agree1 Disagree0

I'd love to see Finny sign, and hopefully he will, although i'm sure the reality, which a lot of people fail to consider, is that signing a player is a two way deal.

Any young, high quality players (the ones we're all hoping for) are not going to sign on the dotted line, only to see us crash out in the final CL qualifier.
These guys MUST be waiting to see if we make the group stages.
There's no way we can get this level of player with only the SPFL on offer.

That's the real conundrum. We'd like these top players to help us gain CL qualification, but these guys DO NOT want to risk joining us until we're already qualified.

Correct me if i'm wrong ED, but that's my take on things.

Alan in Thailand

Agree1 Disagree0

Why waste money, we got some great players who want there time in the limelight they want to show you what they can do, let what we have shine and bring on others around them on to there game, let them become a team again we have plenty young lads itching to play there part let's do this Mr Lennon you got the Heros now let them shine.

Agree0 Disagree1

Alan in Thailand

If any player sees it as a risk to play for celtic then we do not want them, let them stay where they are and win maybe nothing and never play in CL, that is my take on players who think they better than others who play for celtic.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Alan, hope you're well mate. I respect your thoughts but certainly don't agree-in fact the board probably dream about guys like you because it gives them an excuse to hide behind for never getting things done. They'll just say what you're saying! The bottom line is Celtic are a world wide club, potentially in Europe EVERY year so players would be joining knowing this, also the prestige off playing for us, Herenveen - give me peace, I also doubt very much that he's on more than roughly 8k a week(obviously Euro) there. Players would be falling over themselves to join us if we acted like the huge club we should be acting like. This is not a knee jerk reaction-I'm 36(watching Celtic since I was 7) the people at the top have never truly GOT it, I don't know if they think all the fans are a bit backward or thick but I am truly disgusted with them! We all want MORE in every sense of the word. If it's not the league we play in, it's the other mobs demise, if it's not that it's something else-I don't care about excuses, if the guys on the board can't comprehend this then I want guys who can. It's this nonsense that give's others ammunition in not taking us seriously when it comes to things like moving to a different league-we have the perception of an average sized club, not a giant. And you know what they say-perception is reality. Cheers, Paul

Agree0 Disagree0

And to that post that just came in there - between Alan's posts, (the one with no name) I just don't think you get it. The fans don't want a bean WASTED, what we want is quality at a good age with a re-sale value brought in to replace Ki/Wanyama/Hooper/Wilson. Our team is looking average all off a sudden. You are saying let our heroes shine-we need a balance dude. If you are happy with what is going on then fine, me and all my friends and family are totally appalled. We are season ticket holders/shareholders, but this is the final straw-we don't want millions in the bank, we want a brilliant team that is respected worldwide! Paul

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers for the reply Paul (and "no name"). Guys, I totally agree with the sentiments that we should have players willing to crawl to Paradise.
The problem is this backwater league we're stuck in.
Unknown potential like big Vic are easier because they see us as a ticket to the EPL.
The problem with someone like Finbogasson is there are teams from far stronger leagues after him too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oops, hit send too quickly!
Anyway, I agree, we should push the boat out for this guy. I'm just worried that someone with plenty of offers will not commit unless we have qualified already.
UEFA have allowed the big 5 leagues to destroy clubs like us, Ajax, etc.
Personally, I wish we'd ask his club to give us a take it or leave it price, rather than start a bidding war (which they're clearly doing).
I'd offer ALL of the Hooper money + some extra to get this guy.
Fingers crossed we do.
Hail hail from sunny Siam guys
Alan (still) in Thailand

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry, forgot to add. Paul, when you said we are "potentially" in Europe every year, I think that is THE big problem. We can't guarantee it as UEFA and the so-called "big 5" leaguee have shafted clubs like ours.
We could, indeed SHOULD, be in Europe every year, but if the plan fails, you're left trying to sell games at Ross County, St. Mirren to a top prospect like Finbogasson!
I'm not a happy clapper by any means, just very frustrated at how badly handicapped we are in the transfer market!
Hail hail from Thailand guys.

Agree0 Disagree0

Paul.lets see what we got, next window is in plenty time to spend, let's secure all the players we have for next 3/5 years, see what money is left in the pot for next window, let the new and young players become men.

Xulu, Banana(cb)Jali, kara(mid/wanyama)Rhodes, Finnbogason
and maybe GM Steven. that's the players our club should sign, the lot of them, if were looking to buy then sell at profit I believe these players are our clubs policy. We know we have some money(not as much as reported)but we deserve these players, ., .kbarry

Believable12 Unbelievable14

Rhodes alone would cost more than we are likely to spend.

LM67

Agree3 Disagree0

I agree man but I reckon we'll see 2 from that list if we're lucky. Daviebhoy77

Agree0 Disagree0

KBarry - I have thought about recommending Banana (i assume you mean the guy at Sochaux?) but he is predominantly used at right back - a position we are very strong in. Agree though - he is likely to develop as a centre back due to his height. I think he has exactly what it takes to be at celtic, but with our squad I feel it would be better to go for a proven CB. Jean-Pierre Laguerre

Agree1 Disagree0

KBArry - Kara is also someone I have recommended heavily. Saw him play last night (vs Standaard) he was deployed at Centre Back. Plays there a lot for Genk due to the holding midfielder being Yao Kuzmordi the ghanaian. I agree with you - Mbodj (Kara) would be the ideal replacement for Wanyama. My first choice in the role too. jean-Pierre Laguerre

Agree0 Disagree0

Anybody else think jean-pierre is a pseudonym for John Park.?

Its refreshing to consistently see someone with a knowledge of European football that extends beyond what is said on social media/media and who is good in this years Fifa/Footie Manager.

MgC

Agree0 Disagree0

MgC - thanks for the kind words - appreciated. The difference is - J Park knows the english game. I am totally ignorant of it i'm afraid. (Never watch it). I actually am not so aware of the superstar players, but know a lot of players who would suit Celtic. If I ever watch a game, it is to see who would do well at Celtic. For example - spotted Banana on the french highlights, and noticed him because of his size - he is massive. Looked for him a couple of times after that, and checked him out on their website. International for cameroon, big, athletic, young. ticks all the boxes. Plus he has a great name! I like the Belgian league because it has a lot of fit, athletic, cheap africans who are also technically good. It is a good league too. way better than the spl. Watched hertz-hibs yesterday. awful. Still think we should have gone for Ryan McGowan though! Jean-Pierre Laguerre

Agree1 Disagree0

Good to hear someone spell out a viable, ambitious policy - and I should have thought within our current means give or take. Its vital to remain a formidable opposition at CL level, at home - and we have a lot to live up to - but this is refreshing. Let's hope those running the show share this sort of realistic ambition!

Agree0 Disagree0

It again looks like all we will get is excuses this transfer window .what a surprise are you listening DD and PL?? {Ed007's Note - There is still three weeks to go in the window.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Every man & his dog knew we had to get players in before 11pm last night for CL registration, but yet again despite being linked with some very good youung prospects we have once again signed no one, I know there is 3 weeks left for domestic signings but in the current climate we need to be playing in europe & with this current squad it will be a struggle (that said I would love to be proved wrong)

The deadline of was for the knockout round, not the group stages. The number 1 targets will be waiting to see if we qualify before they sign. If we can negotiate shakhtar then I am quite sure Finnbogasson will be our new number 7 (assuming Augusborg don't make him an offer he can't refuse in the meantime like what happened with the Norwegian lad this time last season).

Mac

Agree0 Disagree0

If we don't get through the knockout stage there is no chance of signing any quality players, that's why we needed to push the boat out to ensure we do qualify!

TV transfer clockwatch claiming Kevin Doyle close to agreeing deal to Hull if willing to take wage cut. Hope so

Believable21 Unbelievable4

The majority of fans' attitude towards the signing of Doyle should surely be enough reason for us not to bother.

Agree2 Disagree1

No way celtic would pay 40k a week so would have to take a pay cut to join us too

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I don't think we have ever been even thinking about signing Doyle on a full transfer-as far as I know we asked about a loan with Wolves still paying part of his 40k wage. I think we moved on after January with that one-it's just the sports journalism in Scotland is a disgrace, made up off guess work. That aside we better get quality players in today because I'm totally disgusted with our dealings so far-every season any normal team, never mind a huge team like us looks to improve-even staying with the same squad you are technically going backwards because most other teams are improving. But we have to go one better, we've went and sold our 3 best players from the spine off the team and are still dragging our heals with regards replacements. It's a total embarrassment! Paul

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree Paul we have to move forward with these signings very quickly and pay the going rate, teams are catching us up when we should be moving out of reach, interest in the bank does not maintain interest on the terracing.

According to reports Doyle will be heading to Hull as part of a 3 million pound deal hopefully put the celtic rumours to bed

Believable19 Unbelievable1

Fingers crossed.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't understand the negativity surrounding the doyle transfer. Top notch forward who would band the goals in for celtic and set up even more. Would have liked to have seen him in the hoops.
