Hi ed first time post here been on the site for about 2 years I'm obsessed especially during transfer season! Just wanted to see what u knew and thought about Caldwell returning? I wanted rid of him the full time he was with us but he has being playing quite welling one of the toughest leagues in the world and when the sh*t hit the fan he stood up! Maybe with that experience hes gotta be better than Glen n big dan? Brian {Ed007's Note - I know nothing about it and really don't want to think about it. He is an awful defender and how any CFC fan would want him back baffles me. Even if I was told he was definitely coming back I don't think I could bring myself to type the words. I would sit with my fingers in my ears shouting NA NA NA to block it out!}

Believable5 Unbelievable7

I wasn't meaning I want him back by any means just wondered if you thought he would be better than before. I do think for any realistic chance in the champs league we need two good cb! But hopefully parkys found another few gems like wanyama {Ed007's Note - Caldwell is not the answer IMO Brian. We would as well offering Loovens a new contract.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope he never comes back, Caldwell, loovens, big dan and the rest are the defenders we should never be going near. we need proven quality even if we need to pay a bit more for it. it would be worth it by getting into the champions league every season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nay nay and thrice nay.

Agree0 Disagree0

I feel the same! If we stand any chance in Europe we need to sort out the defence big time. But it seems to be the department we neglect by recruiting low calibre free agents

Agree0 Disagree0

Hello!
even they lost i think Ireland played very well! Keith Andrews would do a job for us too! ED what is going on with Forster? didnt his agent said two days ago that he wants too stay and the deal will be sign in 24 hours?
SlovenianCelt {Ed007's Note - It does look like Forster will be signing. At a guess I would say it is the agent fees holding up any announcement, it is happening more and more these days.}

Believable1 Unbelievable7

Thanks ed, who do you think will replace him? i hope it will be Gordon but he is on big wages. {Ed007's Note - Replace him.. do you mean if Forster doesn't sign? I think we will try for Gordon but English teams see him as a good free player. There has been keepers scouted, Smithies from Huddersfield and David Forde from Millwall amongst them. There will be foreign ones as well but I am confident that Forster will sign. It is about time CFC had a recognised No.1. I am not a fan of loan deals, especially in such a crucial position as GK.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Think big forster will sign this week and will go on to be amazing for us. but we might only be able to hold on to him for a season or 2 if he is as good as he was last season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Andrews no where near as good as we have got
Tambhoy

Celtic have much better players than andrews, he wouldnt get a game.......

gutted after tonites game but heres the rub Mario Mandžukić scorer of 2
croatia goals is a free agent and i think he would be perfect for hooper
to partner. some people on here always claim to have inside info on this and that can somone try and get this info to someone inside parkhead. wot do u think ed

green hornet {Ed007's Note - I have seen him play a few times in the Bundesliga. I can't say I was overly impressed with him but he had a good game tonight. Tottenham were keen on bringing him in during January. Again the financial side of things could be a problem.}

Believable2 Unbelievable6

Unless he's been released he's got 2yrs left on his contract according to transfermarkt.de, they also value him at £8m which means he will really be worth £10-12m so I don't think so. That said I don't know how reliable the site is as they say Douglas is a free agent from the 30th but every newspaper that I've seen mention him has said he would cost £7-8m.

Agree0 Disagree0

How sure are you he's a free agent? im 99% sure his contract lasts till 2014

Roskov

Agree0 Disagree0

The player is contracted until 2014.
Would be about £8M so no chance!

Ed whatever happened when we had Pletikosa on trial? Ive always rated him highly and was certain he would be a great number one for the hoops. I know it's old news but never got what happened.

CeltStu {Ed007's Note - The whole GK situation was down to the uncertainty over Forster. NL wanted to buy/loan Forster, Newcastle were reluctant to let him go and then changed their mind. Forster was always NL's first choice GK last summer.}

I know he's probably out our price range but what do you think of Simon Kjaer . Thought he was excellent last night solid and commanding just what we need . I see he's on loan to Roma from Wolfsburg but says he won't go back as long as Magaths there . Roma don't seem to want him either . What do you think Ed maybe aiming too high......DH

Believable2 Unbelievable12

Not a chance we wouldnt pay the transfer fee and couldnt afford wage,.,.,kbarry

Agree0 Disagree0

Was thinking the same when i watched him last night, looked solid along with agger, well worth a shout.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not a chance- wages and transfer fee for a player of his age and experience are way out of our league.....unless we had an EBT scheme? :)

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm sure Liverpool were after him at some point during the recent transfer windows. Not going to happen. Definitely out of our price range.

My father came from Donegal, been going over for the past 43 years. Love the people, love the country. Used to spend 7 weeks each summer holidays in God's Own Country. When very young, I'd come back with an Irish accent and my school mates would p1sh themselves laughing at me.

So proud to be half Irish. So proud to be half Scots.

Think we'll have a good tournament and will get out of the group stages. So, so diffucult, but Trap has us well organised and we do have good players.

Enjoy Bigirishmac, have a great night mate.

Hey bhoys,
I've been a regular reader of the site for a number of years, but don't post often-more of a reader than a contributor due to work commitments! But I just wanted to come on and ask fellow Celtic fans their views on our apparent interest in Leon Best. Now, I'm not for one minute saying I know a lot about Best, but I do know he has spent a lot of time out injured and does not have a great scoring record. On another note, if the rumours are true and he has rejected us FOUR times, then I wouldn't give him another chance. In my opinion (of course I'm biased) but if you reject the Hoops once then good riddens. How can any player, even if the're not 'Celtic minded', not want to play in front of 60k of the best fans in the world, get a decent wage, and be adored if they are a success. I just fear Leon Best is going to be in the mould of Daryl Murphy. I remember every Celtic fans saying wtf is Lenny doing going after him? Every fan could see it was a no-no yet Lenny went ahead. I fear more of the same with Best, but over the moon big Fraz looks to be signing. Now 3-4 more signings and we'll do well. Hail Hail!
Fergie1987 {Ed007's Note - Welcome to the site Fergie.}

Believable5 Unbelievable1

Iv watched Leon best a few times last season for Newcastle and I would welcome him to parkhead I think he would do a great job. But have to agree with poster if he has rejected us 4 times never mind twice then I would hunt him.
Campsie Tim

Agree0 Disagree0

Welcome Fergie, a wee plea from this Tim, could you please loan us Rooney next season thanks.... Timalloy

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Fergie
i'm split about Best....on the rare occasions that i've seen him play, he's looked a bit of a handful and a pretty decent player, on the other hand he seems to share the physios bench with michael owen.
then, if the rumours are true that he's (not newcastle) rejected us 4 times, then i would say we don't need someone like that, who obviously doesn't have the desire or interest to play with our great club

Looking forward to today's 2 games.

Think we're in for an exciting Euros. Although a pity that Portugal only played attacking football for the last 15 minutes yesterday. It would have been some game if they played like that for the full 90 minutes.

Afternoon ED007, I see my post yesterday about Samaras caused a debate, big Sammy does that he divides the Celtic support, he can be brilliant one game the hopeless the next few. That is where I am coming from, he has now been at Celtic what? 3 years or so, how many
really good games has he had, I actually think he will be more suited to the Italian league as he can hold up the ball and bring other into play. I honestly think some players like sammy go stale after a couple of years and it is maybe time for Celtic and Sammy to part company.
But being a Celtic fan, if he is still at Parkhead next season I will give him
my 100% support. Timalloy

Believable14 Unbelievable5

I agree. i think its time to sell sammy if we can. Yes not arguing he has been great for us recently but how long is it going to last. I said a while back its till after the euros or until he was sure of his place at the euros

Also think we would get a quality player in for say 2.5 million in that left mid position

Agree0 Disagree0

I would keep him. In the first half he was Greece best player. I thought he tired and should have been hooked mid way through second half. He holds the ball up well. No-one could get it off him. Hes no Messi but he is good.

Joeshmo1888

Agree0 Disagree0

I get all of the above points and largely agree but last year he was one of the most consistent players and by no coincidence it was his longest run of games. Ever since he's been with us he plays one or two bad games and there's uproar to ditch him. Stokes, Hooper, Forrest, Commons plus more are on occassions just as bad or un interested yet it's only a blip.

If Sammy stays i'll be happy, if he goes i'd say thanks, all the best and sorry for the abuse you suffered from ur own fans

Gary

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Sammy had more good games than poor games this season and was consistently good from around December/January. Wasn't that useful at the start of the season but then the team man for man weren't exactly any better bar one or two shining lights in the early part.

Every player has his price, but I'd be happy if we kept him. Useful player to have in the squad.

I cant believe Forrest has so many fans ,he is a lesser player than Mc Geady and most didnt mind when he went ...I think its time to cash in and sell modern game doesnt need wingers with out and out strikers ... We have matthews over there so Forrest is sellable ...TTTS

Believable12 Unbelievable29

Clearly not a celtic fan are you?

Agree0 Disagree0

McGeady is a class act with tremendous feet but Forrest's 'all-round game' is better than McGeady's was at the same age. Are you suggesting Matthews as a replacement to Forrest?

Agree0 Disagree0

What are you mentioning matthews for? not sure you know much about celtic but matthews and forrest do usually play together. Makes sense to selling one of our only wide men when we have about 6 centre mids in the squad. not think one of them could do with being sold first?

And lastly hopefully every1 agrees with this. Forrest has more fans than mc geady does cause:

1. Not as gready
2. More direct
3. Forrest has an end product

Kieran1967

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah modern game doesn't need wingers like Ribery, Valencia, Nani, Robben......eh!

Agree0 Disagree0

TTTS
I partially agree with you. I don't see what all the fuss is about with Forrest. I am not saying there's not potential there but I would also let him go especially for the ridiculous amounts that was going around a while ago.

And yes Iam a CELTIC supporter.

Hoopey67

Agree0 Disagree0

Aiden mcgeady never had a final ball when he was at celtic! James forrest is a far better prospect? R we watching the same team?

Byars38625

Agree0 Disagree0

The problem i have with forrest he's only in the game in part's,does not chase back as much as he should, and as soon as he get's challenged for the ball throw's his hand's up in the air.If james did not believe some of the hype about himself he would be a better player than mc geady.
Tambhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Celtic fan yes ,any one player fan no ....a sellaable asset ...Celtic will still be around long after Forrest ...Fact ...to me just before his injury he was loosing pocessing far to often and Celtic play was far to perdictable ...I prefer a skillful midfielder with 2 grinders and an option of 2 attacking full backs, far more attacking options ...just my opinion and as Celtic fan thats what makes us different and great our diversity and respect for others opinions ..TTTS

Agree0 Disagree0

And to the "Celtic" fan that questions my support for my team what makes him/her think he's a better supporter than me because I think one of or all of our players have a price on their head ?....TTTS

Agree0 Disagree0

How many times were you frustrated watching mc geady playing? Yea forrest is to as is everyone at times but not near as much as mc geady.

Forrest goes and crosses the ball or picks a pass. Mc Geady beats one then two maybe 3 or 4 and whats he do? turns back and trys it over again

Agree0 Disagree0

If he's not that good TTTS...what is it you think makes him a sellable asset then ? I'm a fan, I do like wingers and wish I'd been about to see Jinky (not that i'm making a comparison).

He had a good season not just with Celtic also Scotland U21 and was impressive when he played against Slovenia for the Scotland senior squad. We relied on him quite a lot this season, probably a bit too much. We don't have another player like him in the team. Mrs E

Agree0 Disagree0

Obviously the weekends alcohol has caught up with you my friend either that or u are from the dark side, like most people are sayin Forrest has a final ball, I was a fan of mc geady but IMO Forrest could go on to be a far superior player.

Bishypaul

Agree0 Disagree0

FFS watch the games and pay attention will you. Forrest was our most consistent player along with Mulgrew until he got injured against Kilmarnock in league cup final. He played an astonishing amount of games for a player so young last season. He is better than McGeady was at the same age. And he has a better football brain and shows much more maturity. Remember McGeady's first 6 or 7 old firm games? No neither can i!! He was less than useless against them when he was forrests age. But grew into a star player with consistency and performed against rangers. If we do selll James it will be for top dollar 7.5 to 10 million because he has amazing potential. And mathews is a right back / wing back so how the F*CK can he fill a void made by losing the best winger in scotland who creates most of our chances? Absolute nonsense mate, embarrassing. McGeady is a great player no doubt and better than forrest at this moment of course, but if Forrest keeps progressing the way he is will match, maybe even surpass him. How can't some of you see that. The stats and facts are there to see if you want to check them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Did you watch Celtic last season mate . If Forrest was not in the team a lot of games we would have struggled . Gives you an out ball , has decent delivery and scores goals regular from a wide area . One thing that Mcgeady could not and I was a Mcgeady fan . He came through when Commons wasnt performing and I personally thought we were too narrow with him out the team . There is NO better sight than a player beating a player and hitting the by-line .
CelticMatt

Agree0 Disagree0

Seems I have upset a few people ,sorry for that ,but its just my thoughts not NLs and hes the man that matters ...Healthy debate is good thou ...Thank god we're not debating whom to pay next ....TTTS

Agree0 Disagree0

Back to young Forrest ... I honestly believe Big Sam give us a lot more options ,but he has his price too ....

Agree0 Disagree0

To the 4th last poster who claims he could surpass mcgeady you are comletely deluded.nonesense. mcgeady is streets ahead of forrest. get a grip.

Agree0 Disagree0

Right you Gypsy Rose Lee, when your finished with your crystal ball telling is Forrest is never going to surpass McGeady maybe you should check the stats. We have a better win record when Forrest is in our team than when McGeady played in the celtic team at the start for a start. There are many others if you will just do the work. Mate ive forgot more about football than you know and i can make such a confident assumption because you are so arrogant to say that i am deluded to say he cant surpass him. WHY NOT? its just a pure arrogant statement mate, Spurs have been watching him since November and he got even better after that, thats why he was linked with them in january. Redknapp said so himself. I never said he would definitely surpass McGeady i just said HE COULD. And i would stand by that statement all day long. I watch the games mate, pay attention to them. I dont think you do, or you cant have been watching them closely enough in McGeady's first few seasons.

Amyourda

Agree0 Disagree0

You are shouting about nothing, Forrest is a cracking player as was McGeady not seen or heard much since his move. I hope Forrest gets better and better and he gets his big money move to spain, england or italy. Plenty of potential and Im glad he's scottish wish McGeady played for scotland too

Agree0 Disagree0

Look forrest is still a kid and leaving every day,,,who knows he mite be the next great celt.......

Agree0 Disagree0

Aiden mcgreedy, lack of finesse, loses the ball 9 times out of 10 attempting some poofy ronaldo esque trick, lacking a final ball and his shooting technique is worse than my girlfriend toe poking it. jimmy forrest has great pace, a bit of strength in his shoulders once he matures, a good touch, effective skill ie flick and run etc tricks that actually work and well within his ability, not to mention he scores a few when needed and when we looked flat last season forrest was our bit of spark. thats my piece.

was reading somewhere sammys got 6 italian teams and 1 german team looking at him personally i want to keep him as i think hes just hitting his peak, but i read 1-3m for him i think if he did go to europe i think we could get 5-7m easily as he would suit european game as they tend to play the slower game with quick breakaways that would suit him down to a tee,but as i said at start i would love him to stay, the teams i heard were juventus, palermo, bologna, chievo, fiorentina, uddinese that was the tally teams the german team is suppose to werder bremen ,just a rumour but what would yous think if he has a good euro`s how much we could get for him,kb-bhoy

Believable1 Unbelievable8

He was one of Greece's better players the other night. But he has been for some time, despite his questionable goals return. As you say though, his style of play isn't to score, but to help create. I don't think the Euro's will particularly affect his price-tag. Offers in the region of £3-4m will probably be accepted.

I really hope we hold onto Wanyama as think he can do a job for us week in week out in midfield and centre back , where i prefer and i see an improved contract on the cards although he does have three years on his current deal .

IMO I think wanyama could be one of the best midfielders in the world in a couple of years time! He oozes class and at 20 years old he is so disciplined already! I think the boy will go for 20 million at one stage in his career. brian

Leon Best is likely to sign alongside Fraser Forster in the next couple of days with possibly Hugo Rodallega in the next week.

Celtic however are recently dropping their interest in Keith Andrews but are still keen on signing a Premiership calibre centre-midfielder. This (I am led to believe) will be either James Mcarthur or Leon Britton.

Celtic's hunt for a centre-back also continues with Matt Mills top of the list however if the deal falls through, back up deals for Gary Caldwell and Sebastián Coates have been set up.

Believable3 Unbelievable16

Where did u get this crap from , another obsessed with Caldwell signing........DH

Agree0 Disagree0

Did Coates not sign for Liverpool for around £7m?If so then there is no way we will sign him,i loved the scissors kick goal he scored last season tho.

Jungle Bhoy.

Swansea would be well within their rights to want around £10m for Britton. Quite simply, he's one of Europe's best passers, and they don't come cheap.
