Just in point of fact: can anyone confirm that Thatcher was present at the 86 Scottish Cup Final? One of my earliest Celtic memories - I hope not fraudulent. I'd like to see video of the response if it exists. A rousing moment for an uncomprehending 9 year old. Thanks in advance

I believe it was the 1988 final

Robert the 1986 Scottish Cup final was between Aberdeen & Hearts ~ Mrs E

Memory not so good in my old age either 1985 100th final or the centenary year. The thing I DO remember is the CHANT DENNIS THATCHERS WIFES A C?W! st frankie.

1988 - sounds about right! I would have been 11 by then. I did the google - couldn't get the facts straight. Sorry - a passionate moment. Thanks for straightening it out folks! Hope I can find some video!

PS I think I was confused because I had a program signed by Jock that year - a wee laddie who liked to write letters. But it was '88: I remember now! cheers!

It was 1988 final against Dundee united I remember meeting billy Connolly after the game

Agree0 Disagree0

What could have possessed her to come and watch the 'tic?!?!?!?!

Agree0 Disagree0

I remember Roy Aitken wiping his hands on his top before shaking hands with her before he lifted the cup.

A great day when a country united to tell a politician the facts. WE HATE YOU. green jhedi

Big roy should have wiped his hands after he shook hands and maybe counted his fingers

Ah thanks guys

this was a controversial post - I've tried to break into the community anonymously - but, well. I should've just given a name.

Anyway - thanks for sharing your memories. its the only way to democracy - and against her thoughts - we have the power: speak, talk. We'll be in contact. amigos.

I was at the game and it was in 1988 against dundee utd.
a funny story about it. maggie came out to a storm of abuse and she thought it was because she was wearing blue. she then went back and changed her outfit and came back out to another storm of abuse.

Agree1 Disagree0

Haha- like blue would piss us off - tact, and the lack of it - are surely all of politics. she possessed none of the above.

Agree0 Disagree0

Was 1988. I was there. possibly the only person ever to be booed by both sets of fans simultaneously. celtic beat dundee utd. and there were fans booing and cheering altenately as maggie handed the cup over, buit what a missed opportunity for the streakers!

Agree0 Disagree0

She wasn't at the semi against that maroon mob when brian whittaker pushed our goalie over the line for their goal but we had mighty mcgee, then frankie bhoy in the final, semi and final were both quite similar that year,, maggie did steal my milk though, I used to love getting sent by the teacher to get the crate of milk, sit in class slurping that freezin cold cow-piss,. ,. kbarry

Fiorentina lookin at samaras in summer, sly sports

Believable14 Unbelievable2

Hes entering final year of contract. sell him and get another striker just doesn't do it in spl

Agree0 Disagree3

I would hope we part company as both parties could do with a change.

JJ

Agree0 Disagree2

Want him to stay. we can do without him in the spl but will be very hard to replace him in CL.

Agree2 Disagree1

We clearly can't do without him both in the spl and cl, Hooper looks as if he doesn't want to be here so i'd rather let him go and put Miku back to getafe and bring in a pure 6ft plus goalscoring machine to play up top with Sammy behind.
Samaras is one of few who deserves a new improved contract, he's worked wonders, proved us all wrong and actually loves the club and doesn't want to leave so that's more than enough for me.
Him and super Joe should be tied down asap along with the likes of Matthews and wilson

Agree3 Disagree0

Thanks for the service Sammy, but you're one of the highest earners and don't contribute enough to the squad.

Agree1 Disagree3

I agree sammy deserves a new contract, he loves the club made us 10mill in cl this season was amazing! KEEP HIM FOR NEXT SEASON & CL ADVENTURE
