Hi all, so for a bit of fun and because I'm a sad act I'm going to list all the players we have been linked with during the window and actually see who we end up signing. This is the current list I have set up, I just wondered what everyone's thoughts were on the current links. Again Scott Brown mentioned that a lot of new faces would be coming in and a lot of players would be leaving. Maybe that signals a clean out and a refreshed squad. Hopefully this is the case.

Diemers - Fortuna Sittard - CM
Lys Mousset - Bournemouth - Wing
Dara O'Shea - West Brom - CB
Rekeem Harper - West Brom - CM
Fikayo Tomori - Derby - CB
Roman Darcy - Bolton - ST
Charles Jesaja Herman - Wolfsburg - ST
Salas Wamangituka - Paris FC - ST.

Agree0 Disagree0

Diemers - No idea
Mousset - Tidy enough player but for the reported 10m? No thanks.
O'Shea - No idea
Harper - No thanks
Tomori - Looks a good young CB
Darcy - No idea
Hermann - No idea
Wamangituka - No idea + I think NL said that wasn't the player he was watching.

You missed Alberth Elis off that list Ken mate. We're looking at him according to Izzy 🤔.

Overall it doesn't really scream quality over quantity still does it. Could be some decent projects in there but that's about it.

Who’s scouting these player . just the now surely we can’t be actively chasing players . when we don’t even have a manager confirmed . An if we are surely he that tells that Lenny will be here one way or another next season . Because surely the caliber of managed we are after will want to select his own targets.

What has Congerton been doing for the last 2/ 3 years. Obviously we’ve had targets in the past. Do we just throw out all those note books when the Head scout leaves? No we don’t. We use the information we had.

Scouts can also be hired externally. Basically self employed and are paid to scout and create reports.

Paddybhoy we SIGNED Craig Gordon when we didn't even have a manager. Never mind scouting players.

22 May 2019 15:51:56
Who said that these were the players we were looking at, it’s like the the new manager, many names mentioned then when it is confirmed we were the first to tell you. oldkilly.

22 May 2019 16:43:30
Surely any decent manager would want to have some say on the ins and outs of his team . I am not saying past scouted player should be binned or that but the new manager especially a decent one would want to run the rule over them . Not unless the manager has already been selected and behind the scenes having some input . it’s all guess work the now really let’s get sat out the way first sort our hangover on Sunday. Manager position clarified Monday . Then roll on transfer speculations for the next few weeks.

Was meant to be a laugh lads lighten up a bit.

22 May 2019 17:35:44
Aye your right lol . and to be honest I hardly know anything about the players mentioned.

22 May 2019 20:47:29
I can't believe fans think that scouting and transfer business just stops because the manager leaves. Do they think that strategies just get binned and start again.
Continuality at a club our size is massively important.

I would like to think the process of identifying prospects and working on them and preparing for signing them should proceed whether a club have a manager in place or not . In most progressive clubs the managers don't be involved in the sanctioning of new players.

To be honest some deals take months sometimes years to put in place. I’m sure clubs at the top level have long term transfer plans alongside there existing short term transfers, acting as a sort of compensation fee for developing the player. We will sign player x from you in 1.5 years for this fee etc. But the deal doesn’t actually get pushed through till that window 1.5 years later. If that makes sense. I’m sure something like that happened with James Rodriguez in the Bayern deal.

For instance Frenkie De Jong before signing for Ajax cost £1 from Willem II. I expect willem to get a cut of the transfer to Barcelona but needed a fee to gain the sell on clause or something along those lines. I’m sure I’ve seen the EDs explaining a year or two ago but I’m paraphrasing!

{Ed001's Note - Ajax paid over £9m for him. Willem II will get a part of 5% that is split between the clubs that developed him. Not sure exactly how much they will get, as Ajax might get some of that.}
