Ed just a thought on the manager situation. Obviously we don't know the boards intentions as yet. Maybe they think Lenny is the man to take us forward or maybe not. My question is if it is not to be Lennon will the board at this stage have contacted potential candidates for taking over at the end of the season. I would hate to think that if they do decide to go with someone new that it would be a drawn out process given the short period of time before our European qualifiers start and the rebuilding that is required on the park.

{Ed007's Note - There will have been some kind of an approach made to Steve Clarke and maybe some preliminary talks with some of the applicants but I still think it'll be Lennon if Clarke turns it down. I really don't see the board pushing the boat out again on a manager at Rodgers level with the wages etc involved.

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope you are wrong Ed Maybe not to Rodgers level but I hope higher than Lennon I know it sounds like I don't like him but that is wrong I do like him but I just don't think he will take us forward he in my opinion is at Hibs level But not at ours.

{Ed007's Note - I just see it as a backwards step and if he is appointed are we going back to Lawwell ultimately deciding who we sign, more loans from his son at City?
The only way I would like to see Lennon get the job is if as is expected Congerton leaves then we move to bring in a top DOF to oversee the footballing operations.}

God I hope they're not approaching Clarke.

{Ed007's Note - Me too, Kev but the same person who told me Rodgers was getting the job said that as things stand it'll either Clarke or Lennon. Hopefully that'll change in the coming weeks and considering Clarke has publicly stated he won't manage any other Scottish team than Kilmarnock then it's a very short-sighted approach by the board imo. It would be interesting to find out who has applied or who has got their agent to sound things out.}

I hope if its not Lennon then the board will do the right thing and have the new man sounded out talked to and deal done before the end of this season so he can have a look at what we have and what is needed possibly let Lennon finish this season but the new man steps in from then.

If that’s the level of ambition from the board then I pray to god It’s Lenny appointed over Clark. I know not everyone is a fan of Lenny but I’ve mentioned on previous threads I’d be happy to have him over some of the other names mentioned. On the other hand I also think he’s on a bit of a hiding to nothing. For example if he fails to beat Sevco twice or fails to complete the treble there will be a lot of people unhappy if he is appointed. Marco Rose would be my first choice but from what you’re saying Ed that calibre of manager looks like a pipe dream.

When you look at it from both angles, it was a fantastic coup getting someone of Rodgers' class and ability and his record of an unbeaten treble and 7 trophies on the bounce will probably never be beaten for quite some time?
However, while we lapped up the success, he was obviously putting himself in the shop-window - especially when he and Lawell fell out and the working relationship deteriorated.
We will probably never be able to keep anyone of that Ilk again, because of where we play and the cash limitations to attract/ keep top players and as much as it hurts; there'll always be bigger offers from much smaller teams who lack the history and tradition of Celtic but are backed by £B's from TV, Corporate Business or a bored sugar-daddy who needs a hobby.
It is a harsh reality check, that we are talking about NL and SC for the managers job, but the club, has been really rocked by recent events and will not want to go through that again.
As long as we maintain the current dominance it'll be fine, but as soon as the cracks show - we'll see a howling demand for change.

You’ve been vocal on both options Ed; Lennon and Clarke, but of that is our limit, who would You prefer?

Would there be any value in bringing in Ronnie as a coach?

{Ed007's Note - It would have to be Lennon for me, in management he's the more experienced of the two, he's managed us in Europe and been there and done it with Celtic. Lennon knows exactly what the job requires and the impact it has on your lifeI don't think Clarke would appreciate the level of intrusion in his personal/family life - not to mention the rise in sectarianism that would be aimed at him and his family.}

If it's just they 2 it's got to be Lennon. Clarke has done nothing in the game.

Don’t want either both a backward step. Loving trebles loving the domination and crave the ten more than anything we can achieve. But in these years of dominance ultimately the goal has to be progression each year. Team improving standard of player and performance each year. No doubt both will do the necessary to win games might even tight up in Europe but will we improve? I don’t think so love to be wrong. The snake has gone but fk me he definitely improved us and if it weren’t for his bull it wouldn’t hurt so much. We need a progressive coach at the helm better people than me know who these are and I hope we go that way.

20 Mar 2019 00:53:22
Welshy, I agree with your post, but what do you think progression would be?
I mean realistically, from where Rodgers took us.

Better signings? I’d say that arguably the easiest part to improve on.

Better results? Better youth set up? Last 16 of Europe? Better on the domestic front?

I don’t know the answer myself, which is why I’m asking. It has to be what PL etc. are thinking right now. Do we hire a big time manager and have him implement his new ideas, or do we hire the likes of NL and go with continuity of everything BR built.

Whomever is given the job for me I hope we get someone with good tactical knowledge and isn't as one dimensional in they're setup I really don't like the idea of a manager sticking to the same formation as we have been and team's in Scotland know how to stop us playing now and we still even with Lenny in we're playing the same way when I see them passing the Ball across the backline all the time it infuriates me.
