Not saying it's going to happen but if Rodgers goes for the reported £6m who would you have replace him? Benitez perhaps?

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Feb 2019 10:07:01
Certainly not Davie moyes. I’d rather see Lennon back than moyes. that said I don’t see Rodgers leaving for Leicester.

25 Feb 2019 10:34:08
Rogers ain't going to Leicester city. Chelsea maybe though but can't see him bailing out.
Brasshand the ED will tell you I have been going on about Benitez for ages. Would be a fantastic appointment.
But if we are going down the moyes or Lennon road here then it's got to be clarke.

Only issue we have is maybe Rodgers has done too good domestically.

So unless he's promised funds to tackle Europe then him going is a real possibility.

I mean he's won everything he can here so it's basically win domestic and hammered and Europe.

Kinda groundhog Day tbh and could get pretty boring tbh.

{Ed007's Note - So how far in Europe would we reach to be seen as tackling it? Isn't European football after Christmas the aim every year and who knows what would have happened if we had Benkovic and KT fit to face Valencia or Toljan not being red carded? If we had a full strength squad I'm positive that we would have gave Valencia a much tougher test.
As for the Leicester job, why would Rodgers consider a job where he's battling relegation every year and just staying in the Pub League is seen as a success & in a league where any manager is only ever a couple of defeats away from serious pressure to sack him? Leicester sacked Claude Puel after fourth consecutive home defeat, could Rodgers take Leicester above their current 12th place? At least he won't need to worry about getting hammered in Europe with Leicester.
Once again the media have put 2+2 together and getting 9. Brendan Rodgers will not leave Celtic and take the step down to Leicester even if Leicester do want him.}

25 Feb 2019 11:09:58
The media here are desperate for him to leave as that lot will live in his shadow.

25 Feb 2019 11:34:10
We all knew this mischief making speculation was never far away.
It happens every time an apparent 'big club' loses their manager or when the Scottish media feels they would enjoy life better without BR keeping their team at a long arms length.
There was absolutely none of this garbage when 'The Cardigan' and his amazing EBT's were dominating tax-free.
On Sportscene last night, they were using our exit 'AGAIN' at the round of 32 stage as a catalyst for him to look elsewhere.
They can't stand a successful Celtic with the probability of more trophies and record breaking glory for the foreseeable future.
If and when he leaves, it should be for a bigger better club, not below Liverpool as that would seem a backwards step IMO.
In the meantime he will have to bite his lip and tolerate the ministry of stupid questions trying to unsettle him.

25 Feb 2019 11:36:32
The media are creaming it at the thought of Brendan leaving. who in there right mind would leave Celtic for a struggling Leicester team languishing in the bottom half of the epl. and really surprised at Sutton saying he'll go big hartsons response to Owen was bang on.

25 Feb 2019 13:19:44
I just can't see him moving to Leicester for all the points raised above. I can see him, as mentioned moving to Chelsea though with that likely to be a vacancy soon. I hope the board are doing their due diligence with respect of succession planning as well as with finances.

{Ed007's Note - Chelsea won't be interested in Rodgers taking over when they bin Serri.}

25 Feb 2019 13:36:11
Zidane must be a shout for Chelsea.

{Ed007's Note - They've held talks.}

25 Feb 2019 14:00:39
So what job do you think BR would go to, or have a chance of getting Ed? I agree he won't go to Leicester but would the likes of Spurs or Everton be interested?

{Ed007's Note - I can't see an ex-Liverpool manager taking over at Everton and Spurs spent less than us this season on players, also Daniel Levy makes Lawwell look like a drunk lottery winner when it comes to spending but yeah about that level, maybe even Arsenal if the keep regressing the way they are. I don't see him ending up at a Man Utd or Man City, definitely not.
But why does it need to be in the Pub League? Rodgers is a bug fan of Spanish football and might fancy a crack in La Liga.
Imagine he left for Leicester in the summer, he's only in his mid 40s so what happens for the next 20 years, be the next Harry Redknapp,Tony Pullis or Neil Warnock and just play on the managerial merry-go-round in the Pub League, 2 years here, 18 months there hoping for a decent cup run.}

25 Feb 2019 14:26:50
Might be snookered then.

{Ed007's Note - He should go abroad when he does eventually decide to leave us.}

25 Feb 2019 14:37:30
100% agree Ed, why not spain for example? Am I not right in saying that previous to this Leicester link Brendan has stated how happy he is at Celtic, how your never far away from the sack managing any team in the EPL, Brendan for me got a raw deal with Liverpool and I think it hurt him how it finished. He’s said numerous times he’s privileged and honoured to be manager of Celtic and I just don’t see him leaving for “ just any job”, when he eventually goes it’ll be to a club where he feels he can achieve success, he’s not going to get that at a Leicester city.

25 Feb 2019 16:16:30
Here’s one for you then Ed with a number of clubs being ruled out as Brendan’s next destination for reasons which I agree with what do you think the chances of BR extending his contract with Celtic. He’s constantly telling the media he’s in his dream job and is extremely happy. In this day and age happiness goes a long way. I would love him to be here long term.

{Ed007's Note - I think it'll depend on what's on offer elsewhere after we win 10 in a row and if there's nothing out there that takes his fancy he might well extend his stay. That'll be five years he'll have been here (and 5 trebles) which is a long time but if the team is at a level to keep him interested in taking it forward it who knows?}

25 Feb 2019 16:26:53
Going abroad would be a good option for him. The tanning salons wouldn't be too happy though!

25 Feb 2019 18:20:17
He could get a decent job in Spain. Hasn't he took Spanish lessons too? Pub leagues overrated and managers are lucky to last a season there now with the crazy money that's going about. Look at Leicesters track record lately of sacking managers they're under the illusion they should be competing there because of their fluke league triumph.

25 Feb 2019 21:16:51
You don't win a league by fluke.

{Ed007's Note - You can if it's fixed though..... 😉

25 Feb 2019 00:56:17
Whilst I hate all this talk and speculation about BR leaving I would love to see us still talking about it in ten years time. As regards someone to succeed BR when he eventually goes I would not be in favour of someone who doesn't understand what it means to be Celtic. With that I don't want to criticise any managers from the past as Venglos gave us Moravcik and Jansen stopped the ten and gave us the King.

I don't fancy Benitez and in fact I would prefer Mourinho di Benitez (Heaven forbid) . Would love to see BR hang around long enough for Brown to succeed him just as McNeill succeeded Stein or Failing that an ex player such as Lambert or Larrson.
