So there’s obviously a big comolaint among supporters around our signing process. So let’s just say we BOUGHT Benkovic, Burke, Weah and Toljan. that’s at least £30m. Would certain fans be happy? If so, we have these players and still lost. If not, who do we spend £30m on? Izzy is a back up LB so don’t tell me we need to spend £4m to replace him. Ajer was missing, Tierney was missing, Griffiths is missing to name but a few. As much as there’s a big call for signings, what you’re now saying is that even the loans we have aren’t good enough.

Excellent post McStay. It highlights perfectly the nonsense of the knee jerk reactions you get every time don’t win a game.

No because we would have spent a fortune and still have weak defence . for me it's the manner of the defeat mcstay not the defeat itself . on the 30 million players hypothesis . we only have these players because the club never spent 30 million on quality or are eber likely to do so. would kt ntcham and griff made a difference? not if they played as bad as the starting eleven on Thurs.

Nothing like what people are saying at all

It's the poor reinvestment, poor targets we pick and taking too long to replace positions.

Example. Forster sold for like £13mil - replaced with Gordon and older keeper who had not played for 2 years.

Worked ok at start and saved us money, he's like 60 now and not replaced.

CB - Simunovic injury problems, Ajer young and changed to CB, Boyata isn't even good enough

A position needing strengthened seriously for about 3 years.

It's this style of messing about that's the issue. Cos when you don't act on these cracks early they just get bigger.

Then it builds up and we need to replace a lot of positions at once as oppose to signing 2 or 3 key positions a year with real quality.

The attacking options we have are fine; but the defense has been a problem for a while with injuries, attitude problems and a non-stop array of basic mistakes every time we play in Europe.
Last Thursday we had a loanee RB a centre back that thinks he's better than he is and wants away, another who can be a Jeckel and Hyde, then a substitute LB who - although a great servant - makes too many errors of judgement in big games and has lost pace.
Add to that our Captain who strolls through many SPL games with panache and presence, but is being found out on the bigger stage.

The problems were there for all to see, including the manager and board and the areas of improvement need permanent solutions.
