First have to say we got LUCKY LUCKY last night but as others have said in the past we have been UNLUCKY losers so I will take our tag of Lucky losers lol
But how many howlers has Gordon now made in important games and he never seems to either learn from them or accept responsibility. But the whole team were poor last night and once again the players looked nervous as if the occasion got to them, yes Salsburg were pretty darn good but we made them look better with all our misplaced passes.
But to end on a positive Celtic are going to do another "Seville" lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope we don't do another Seville tim.

14 Dec 2018 11:35:36
Tim it isn't Gordon's fault entirely for that howler, the manager instructs the players to play/ build from the back and it's nonsense. I wish the keeper would just punt it up the park like they used to do instead of having opposition players high pressing in our own 18 yard box. Honestly Jesus wept!

14 Dec 2018 12:07:36
Malky it is all his fault you wouldn't see that mistake in an under 8s game come on it was a howler he had some great saves no doubt about that and would for once like to hear him admit his mistake he never does.

14 Dec 2018 12:13:46
What a load of nonsense malkybhoy. It was 100% Gordons fault. Yes Brendan wants to play out from the back which can be frustrating at times but I guarantee he doesn't encourage reckless attempts to start play like last night.

14 Dec 2018 12:19:41
Couldn't agree with you less Malky, Gordon was (and I'll use the old footballing cliche) 110% to blame for that goal. There are times for lumping the ball up and that wasn't it. The ball was safely in his arms! Playing out from the back is part and parcel of the modern game, especially at this level. Good teams show their class with calm defensive possession and direct penetrative play. Good teams also have big defenders who get to every ball that's lumped up to them, big defenders love that kind of game.
I would rather see us build than lose possesion.

14 Dec 2018 12:25:54
If the team wasn't instructed to build from the back that howler would never have happened. Sorry guys but I will never be convinced with this building from the back nonsense! It gives me the fear😨.

{Ed007's Note - It really helps if the 'keeper can play the ball out though, something Gordon has never been able to do.}

14 Dec 2018 12:42:27
Said the exact same thing last night, trying to circulate the ball is impossible with Gordon in goal. Exactly the same away to Salzburg and will continue to happen against teams who press us.

The game could have ended 0-0 last night and I would still be thinking the same thing.

{Ed007's Note - I've been saying it for a while that we need a new GK but for me this summer a new 'keeper is as essential as any other position we need strengthened.}

Lucky Lucky - I don't agree
Rosenbourg scored and earned a point. The fact that the point prevented Leipzig going second is neither here nor there. It was a draw so each team got their point.

Over the group games Celtic collected 9 points and finished second in the group. 2 points ahead of the third placed team.
No one handed us those 9 points for free.
Would you say then that these other teams who finished second in their groups were also lucky, lucky?
Lazio 9 points
Malmo FF 9 points
Rennes 9 points
BATE Borisov 9 points
Fenerbahce 8 points

Also, almost every team which finished in 3rd position in the groups had 7 points (the same as Leipzig in Celtic's group)
so, we earned the points to go second and qualify.

If you have the players that have the technical ability and confidence to do it then of course that helps but unfortunately we don't. You just have to look at Ajer and Jozo with the ball at their feet they look like nervous wrecks. Then there is the misplaced passes, the Boyata instance at Ibrox when he lost the ball to Windass. The manager must see he is asking players to do things they clearly are not comfortable doing and don't have the ability to do either. "Good teams show their class and calm defensive possession" when have we ever showed class and calm defensive possession jeez we got schooled at home from the mighty Salzburg. Yet everyone is quick to label our defenders bomb scares.

14 Dec 2018 13:49:17
The howler was nothing to do with Salzburg pressing. the striker stands in front of the goalie to put him off he's 36 he should be used to it by now . building from the back is ok for me but i am sure Brendan has said if it's on, if not sky it, he leaves it up to the players to decide, they're all internationals and let's be honest if we just booted it up the park to eddy who's hold up play is average most on here would be going tonto.

14 Dec 2018 14:14:06
I don't think Gordon saw the Salzburg striker tbh. if he did then that's even worse😂😂.

14 Dec 2018 14:15:29
Ajer is not a nervous wreck with the ball at his feet. Yes he made a blunder last night but had just came back from injury and was out of his usual position.
More times than not the big man is good with the ball and can make some great lung bursting runs with it.

14 Dec 2018 14:27:09
Kind of agreed with most of the above. Also was a complete howler. but have seen similar in a non under 8s game. Champions League final perchance? Anyway let's just enjoy and a big thank you to all for our, mostly, measured debate which makes this Forum what it is. Give yourselves a round of applause.

14 Dec 2018 16:15:47
Ajer is one of the better passers in CB. He was rusty and hadn't been on and like mentioned out of position. Have always said on here Gordon has to have the worst distribution I've ever seen in a keeper and can't recall him ever saving a penalty for us either. Yes he made some good saves that's what he's paid to do but he's not paid to put it on a plate for the opposition. I don't get how he can't not see the player he was right in his face by the time he released the ball. That cost us a point and the open goal cost us the win.

14 Dec 2018 22:17:36
It was a clear mistake by Gordon but I actually thought from a shot stopping perspective he was good, header in 5 minutes and 1 on 1 after Ajer mistake both very good saves!

14 Dec 2018 23:01:08
Couldt agree more tiny tim this lucky nonsense and scraped through carry on does my nut in. Over 6 games we were better than Leipzig end of HH.

{Ed007's Note - Did we not deserve to win the league last year after Aberdeen beat us at home in the final game - we had done enough over the previous 37 games and in a league the ONLY thing that matters is the final standings.}
