I'm still struggling with the amount of abuse the boy Hendry seems to be getting, I think it is unfair to be honest.

My take on the game the other night is simple and it is the same take on every game we play against decent opposition in euro matches.

When trying to play out from the back ( defenders) your players have to be able to take the ball under pressure ( midfielders ) and make passes to teammates. We had 3 guys playing in middle of the pitch of which only 1 showed up and was able to take the ball not give it away every time, this just isn't good enough for me. Had we been playing an elite champions league team the other night we would have been 3 or 4 down at half-time. Ntcham and McGregor just not at the races just now, while I agree our defence ain't the best it can't be easy to be under so much intense pressure for so much of a game. Add to this the fact we now don't have a striker to play with his back to goal and take ball in or bring others into play as a focal point. We are really struggling at the moment. Wee griff looks fat and just isn't working as hard on the pitch as he used to for whatever reason I don't know.
We need a big clear out for sure before we bring anyone else in for sure, while I like BR there are things I don't like about him. If we want to compete at that level we need someone who just doesn't make mistakes when bringing players in.

In the past i thought the criticism was unfair because i was sure the lad had something, but you can't teach basic defending. Not putting a tackle in against partick thistle, not closing down the space for killies first, losing his man at the corner for their second goal, then in salzburg hesitating to close the scorer down with only one pass on for their equaliser. It is basic defending he should do automatically especially playing full time football, if he needs time to think these things through first, then he should not be playing at this level. I hate criticising one of our players but an amatuer player would have prevented the goals i mentioned above, sorry jack.

I have never been a fan of playing out from the back, it gives me the fear watching it! How many times do you see teams trying to play out from the back but just end up playing it back to the keeper ( because CB's are being closed down in their own 18 yard box 😨) who punts it up the park which is what he should have done to begin with😂😂 I really don't understand and can't see why managers think these suicidal tactics are the way ahead? This is exactly why so many CB's are low on confidence and are being labelled "bombscare" "liability" etc. It's not their fault it's their managers fault asking them to dribble and mess about with the ball in their own box. Just put in row Z problem solved👍.

Malkybhoy

Lumping the ball up the park is what's wrong with Scottish football. The odd occasion maybe but not as a strategy. Our young boys not just Celtic are poor technically because we get educated to lump ball, clear the lines, row z all that caveman football.

The fear is seeing the ball passed between Boyata, Lustig, Hendry and Gordon hundreds of times. All aren't great passers of the ball and all are indecisive and take to long to make their mind up which just allows the opposition to press and steal possession off us. It's boring to see how long it takes us to get from defence to midfield when opposition teams can do it 20 passes quicker.

Look I know the lad is 23 but he is untested at the level we play at and it is a steep learning curve, making mistakes is how you improve and I'm sure the lad will improve as does BR obviously. I just think a little more support instead of ridicule will help the lad. I mean look at Ajer he makes mistakes now and again gets outmuscled I'm the odd game but receives nowhere near the same level of criticism from our fans. I mean it was only a few months ago everyone was calling Boyata a bombscare and look at him now haha.

Its very much Rodgers fault that we have bombscares in defence, spot on malkybhoy. ☘HH.

So Happyhoppy our young players aren't technically gifted because "they get educated to lump the ball"😂😂😂😂 Don't you think it's because of the lack of investment in grass roots football and/ or lack of quality coaches? Clearing your lines ( Row Z) prevents conceading goals and goes a long way to help in winning football matches! I believe they call it the basics😂😂😂😂.

Malkybhoy lots if reason for Scottish football being poor technically. Your prehistoric views are the most damaging. Lump it, row z all that twaddle.

06 Oct 2018 14:50:15
A CB priority is to clear the ball end off! That is their primary role! . Happyhoppy our young players would benefit from better coaching, is that not what training is for? Our players are not educated to lump the ball, if they are not technically gifted then this is down to our training/ coaching methods. Another failure for rodgers to answer to. ☘HH.

More a general view for me on Scottish football and the mentality of lump ball, row z. Why is it a CB job to clear ball, I understand under severe pressure but not when you have time. All good teams play football from the back. We try it and at European level get found out. Players not technically good enough.

Hendry is NEVER A CELTIC PLAYER NEVER WILL BE end off.
