Hearing Denayer has knocked us back yet again! This window is an absolute shambles by the way! going from last years treble to stumbling about looking for players on the cheap and making a complete arse of ourselves in the transfer market! If we go out next Tuesday we all know who the blame lies with. just ain’t bloody good enough!
{Ed007's Note - If we go out I'll be blaming the players. AEK were no better than a well organised SPFL side who camp out in their own half and once again the players who are meant to create during the game failed miserably.
Rogic done another great Hawley Griffin impersonation before being hooked 5 mins after they went down to 10 men, isn't that when he should be thriving?}

I’m with you on that Ed we can’t blame last night on Lawwell etc.
However I’ve just read Izzy saying he plans on signing a 2 year deal with us. Wtf? What an absolutely pointless signing. I’m usually patient in the transfer window because it’s us, however that’s just desperate.
{Ed007's Note - It's baffling, there's no way in the world Rodgers asked for Izaguirre to be signed, this has Lawwell's fingerprints all over it. Does anyone really believe the best back up LB Congerton and the scouts could come up with was resigning Izaguirre?
09 Aug 2018 10:57:28
ED007 there are a lot of people to blame
Firstly the board, and Lawwell in particular, who have not backed Rodgers. Why wait until AV offer more than us to match it, McGinn deal should have been tied up a month ago. But in saying that it looks like McGinn did not believe in his own ability to earn a starting place, so cheerio.
Rodgers I felt all week concentrated on the transfer situation rather than our CL game, talk about those issues AFTER the game, he took his eye off the ball.
The players seemed to panic when we lost the away goal, and it seemed to unsettle them second half, instead of having the mental strength to overcome it.
The supporters are also to blame, we talk about our famous "Celtic Park atmosphere" but it can work against us also, as the fans also panicked when the Greeks scored and that nervousness affected the team.
Also we the fans are to blame for our perennial lack of transfer actvity each season, lawwell knows we are too immersed in our club to do anything negative, we still sell out the ground every second week, buy all the merchandise etc, Lawwell plays on us Celtic fans doing this.
Finally, I think a lot of fans, on here also, were too complacent and ready to dismiss AEK, they should have been a seeded side and NOT met us. I heard Celtic fans say "they don't travel well" "they have not played a competitive game" Celtic DO NOT travel well either, Athens will be very hard now with a 70,000crowd and 90% heat, sadly I feel we are OUT. last night was our opportunity to take advantage of their lack of games and we blew it big time.
{Ed007's Note - Peter Lawwell wasn't out there last night constantly passing the ball sideways in front of the AEK defence, we should have had enough to beat a very poor Greek side who has 2 shots on target in 90 mins. The players let themselves and the fans down last night, there is no cutting edge in our team that can break down well organised stubborn defences, we even seen it domestically last season.}

Aww come on Ed, you are absolutely at it. AEK another SPL side? Greek champions?
on level with PAOK who are beating sides like Basle and Spartak Moscow last night.
SPL level lol, you are having a laugh. Aye, their style is to defend.
I remember playing AC Milan and Juventus and getting plenty of possession, people thought we were doing well and then bang, goal.
You are mixing up playing style with ability.
and people still refusing to recognise the absolute failure of the board.
{Ed007's Note - They had 2 shots on target - one more than Livingston.}

Do you reckon Rodgers actually wants a back up LB? I just feel it’s a waste of wages when we know KT will be first choice. Rodgers has shown he doesn’t mind playing players in unnatural positions (McGregor has played LB for us for example) . We also have Calvin miller or Hayes who could do as good a job as a 32 year old izzaguire.
I’m hoping after the window shuts down south we see some movement but I’m not confident.
{Ed007's Note - I don't think Rodgers would see a back-up LB as a priority, unless Hayes is moving on and there is also talk of Calvin Miller going out on loan.}
09 Aug 2018 11:21:01
AndyH93 what happens if Tierney snaps his leg again? Would you be happy to play Hayes or Miller week in week out?
Ed you've said on several occasions that you dislike Miller at left back.
{Ed007's Note - But obviously the manager sees Miller as a LB, Kev.
So if we qualify for the CL and KT snaps his leg would you be happy to play Izaguirre against a PSG or a Barca?}
09 Aug 2018 11:21:31
Ed bang on rogic disappeared last night when we needed him pass marks for m. e were Tierney broony ntcham Forrest callum the rest pants and Gordon had nothing to do if that was psg or a Barcelona my god we would get murdered.
{Ed007's Note - Rogic disappears all the time but as long as he scores against TRIFC everything's fine and we've to forget that he offers nothing in a very high percentage of games.}
09 Aug 2018 11:18:32
Agree with u ED about the lack of cutting edge, but the powers at be haven’t replaced Armstrong or paddy that could have provided cutting edge! And again going into a vital match like that with a below par back line once again cost us! Lustig is done at RB and that centre half with a bit of leadership and quality hasn’t been brought in, and the scary thing is they don’t even look like theyr looking for these players! Just feel after all the confidence coming off the back of the last 2 seasons that somethings not quite rite. and listening to Rodgers talk over the past few days confirms that! Denayer Izaguirre some young lad who’s been playing in Australia and the old paddy Roberts stories! It’s not nearly bloody good enough!
{Ed007's Note - We gave Rogic a bumper new deal, James Forrest is - according to some - better than Roberts and Sinclair are there to provide the cutting edge and create chances for the strikers while pitching in with their fair share of goals, they don't do it consistently enough and the same faults as last season are already there to see for this season, until we improve the AM department we're going to struggle to break down teams that are defensively well drilled, both domestically and in Europe.}
09 Aug 2018 11:43:46
Last night was our chance to go through especially playing against 10 men for 30 mins. You say they had 2 rubbishs on target which is true but how many did we have? Apart from the goal and one Ntcham shot straight at the keeper I can’t remember us doing much else.
09 Aug 2018 11:49:56
I would be happier going in with Izzy than with Miller or Hayes ed.
{Ed007's Note - Izaguirre from 5/6 years ago or a 32-year old Izaguirre?}
09 Aug 2018 11:52:38
Ed think most of us agree, so why has the Board not rectified the issue with some signings.
{Ed007's Note - Just to annoy you, Johnny.}
09 Aug 2018 12:18:46
That team were bang average but our Achilles heel the defence as per why do we never strengthen from a position of strength . baffling.
09 Aug 2018 12:25:37
Our attack was worse than our defence Mally. Our Achilles heel last night was not making enough chances.
We had 73% of the possession and half hour against 10 men and done nothing with it.
09 Aug 2018 12:37:33
True kev but clean sheets are crucial in these ties.
09 Aug 2018 13:30:15
Totally agree Ed. It won't be popular but Rogic doesn't dictate and influence games the way some make out. Forrest is still Forrest. When they went down to 10 and sat back - that's where Rogic should be coming alive; not getting hooked. Is he best coming on as an impact and us starting with CalMac down the middle?
{Ed007's Note - I'd definitely start with McGregor playing through the middle.}
09 Aug 2018 13:46:11
So is scoring goals. The defence wasn't as bad as people are making out. Ye we lost a sloppy goal but other than that there was very little for Craig Gordon to do.
It seems in fashion to have a pop at the defence at moment bit there were much worse performing players in the midfield and attack last night.
Rogic was worse player on the pitch and no one is going daft about him because he's the golden bhoy to a lot of fans.
09 Aug 2018 15:09:00
Sorry ed just noticed your reply about whether I'd be happy with a 32 year old Izzy over Hayes and Miller.
Still a yes. Hayes is less than a year younger and none of them are left backs.
10 Aug 2018 22:35:20
Maybe the problem is that like when RD was in charge, PL iis frustrated at the lack of targets that BR is coming up with, eg Left back and so to pull the club out of a fix Peter thinks he has to go on a solo run and come up with a target ie Izzy.
