The factionalism and infighting we are currently experiencing about John McGinn has been manufactured by the media. We've been sold it, and we've bought it, and now they tell us its an embarrassment or a shambles. Better still: we tell ourselves. Have some self respect. Some historical awareness. No one is bigger than the club: he is not even in the club. Get over it. We are allowing ourselves to be defined by what the adverse papers say, and describing ourselves in the same way, slavishly.

Not a great result tonite but we have a great team and a great manager. let's just get behind that and trust that they want what we want. Does anyone really doubt it?

It is embarrassing, nothing to do with what the papers say, we wanted Mcginn FACT not media speculation, the Board waited untill last minute to pay up, it’s embarrassing!
Not because it’s Mcginn, it could be any player and it could be any manager, it won’t change!
Doesn’t change tonight’s result tho and wasn’t going to
Should have won the game but they are decent and that wasn’t going to be any different either.

whats our great managers problem with gamboa? can some one tell me why lustig starts ahead of him?

McGinn would not be guaranteed a start every week. So no real issue on the playing front. BR said he was a player he would have liked to sign. There lies the issue. BR wanted him. We could have had him for 2.75mill. We should have gone and got him because BR wanted him.

Nothing to do with the papers.

Rodgers said from his own mouth it's a player he really wanted. The board failed to deliver that to him by stalling on the deal early on.

Another club came in and took their interest serious and finalised the deal.

So blaming the papers makes no sense.

Celtic are always a target for the jealous journalists, media malcontents, Sevco Scribes and detractors, but we should never make it easy for them by giving them ammunition.
The whole McGinn saga was a farce and even if fellow supporters reckoned him no better than what we have, it was clear that the club made a bid (s) and appeared very amateurish and dithery.
This is not befitting a club of our size, stature and reputation.

How anyone can be upset about a player who clearly cannot get in our first team is beyond me.
They line up to have a dig after dig at the board, this is after they have spouted we only want players who can walk into our team.
The players will come believe me, maybe not the ones you want but then again YOU are not the Celtic manager.
As for the CH debate well we have bought them ( Hendry Commper recently) they may not be there yet but we can't keep buying CHs cos you want to.
I would have thought a RB would be more in line with what we need.

Bore off.

After the result tonight, will Boyata now go to Fulham?

08 Aug 2018 23:50:06
We all hope that we will pull another Ntcham out the bag and McGinn becomes an afterthought.

But the fact is it going to cost a lot more than the reported 2.75 mill to do so and I think that is what's sticking in everyone's throat atm after seeing him holding thst Villa jersey today.

08 Aug 2018 23:57:28
Eloquently put my friend but if we had maybe done business earlier we just might be In a slightly better position.

Exactly Mally which makes the fact we have been waiting on McGinn for so long (pretty much full window)

Cut the board some slack as it was a guaranteed signing. Especially after Armstrongs departure

Not to mention the fact BR has specifically said he wanted him and was after him in several interviews

Yet we find ourselves in not a great position in the 40 million quid tournament. Over what now looks like a few grand!

McGinn is not the issue. He is only the latest in a long line of symptoms of the ever present malaise that is seeped into our club regarding pushing on. Or I should say, not pushing on.

The cause of those symptoms however is Pistake Pete. Let’s be clear about that. His ego cost us signing the best young Scottish player outwith our own team, because he believes his hype. He’s the man, nobody out negotiates Pistake. McGinn will be successful and will go on to earn Villa millions, which should have been ours and all for a poxy £750k. All because nobody fecks with Pistake.

In January, having got ourselves into the EL, we go down his well worn cheapskate path, instead of tooling up and bedding in the quality we needed to beat Zenit and qualify for this years CL, we sign two defenders who aren’t good enough and Johnny Hayes! Think about that for ambition. Or lack of.

We win a double treble and Rogers states “we will strengthen, we must. ” Fast forward three months and we are two quality players down and not replaced. We needed new defenders, better defenders. Instead, we fielded a makeshift, inexperienced and simply not up to it defence. Our best two defenders were at the WC, didn’t Pistake know that tourney was on? Didn’t he know we needed to move fast?

We are now facing down the barrel of a £60m hit in lost revenue. We have brought in nobody. The 3rd qualifier and not one additional player is here. Not one.

Rogers frustration at this was conveyed at the press conference, much to the chagrin of all those who buried their heads in the sand and claimed everything was fine, we would sort it, we will get them in for the CL group stages. Well, how is that train of thought working for anybody?

I have said it many times on here. Rangers would never derail us, we would and by we I mean Pistake Pete. His aversion to spending money, investing in quality, ensuring we are tooled up to face the challenge of qualifying and not being humiliated is all encompassing.

Not one player brought in and the ones being mentioned do not fit into the pup we have been sold of real quality. How any future targets will be affected by his incompetence costing us a CL berth is yet to be seen, but don’t get your hopes up money will be spent. Players will now be sold to ensure the bank balance still triggers his bonus. Not spent on what we need.

Rogers must be asking himself are they serious about progressing. I know I am. And I know the answer and Brendan must too, which doesn’t auger well for his long term stay here. His future of securing a good club is dependent upon him being relatively successful in Europe. Not being backed makes that a pipe dream.

Another defensive lapse lost us a goal. How long will it take for him to realise that the type of player we need can't be found in Primark?

The real quality that we need and which Brendan has talked about, is as near to us today as it was after Seville. We baulk when we are ahead. We have done it again. The real tragedy is nobody is surprised. That we find ourselves in the 3rd qualifying round without a single addition, not even replacing the talent we lost, is infuriating, but it is in no way a shock to anyone. We expect it, it’s normal, we have been there, done that and have three sets of drawers bursting with the Tshirts.

I read some blaming the press. That is totally ridiculous and example of diverting the gaze to where the real problem is. Step forward Lawell. He caused Rogers to speak. He fecked up getting McGinn. He failed to deliver a single Rogers target. He caused us to play a makeshift defence worse than our best, but flawed defence, or does anybody really believe there wasn’t a defender or two on the list provided by Rogers.

Today is the last day of the English window, let’s all hold our breath and see what the wait was for. A big factor for us is convincing talent to join us is being in the CL. What now if we crash out? If he doesn’t spend money when we qualify, what hope do we have now that he has scuppered that with his cautious, let’s get the price down, HOW MUCH? Attitude.

But let’s all rejoice that at least his money’s safe, while we all have to settle for here we go again. He should hang his head in shame. He has let every single Celtic fan down. He talks the talk, but when it comes to the walking bit, he sits on his arse and we stall.

Same me the sun shines out of his arse adoration. It doesn’t. It never has and it never will. When we need him most he is awol. And so are the players we needed. Thanks Pistake, enjoy your bonus. You’ve really earned it.
