Less than 2 weeks to go for the English transfer window and after Brendan comments about transfers has big Chris Sutton wondering what's going on at the club. can we bring players in if we pass Rosenberg.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why this obsession over transfers? We will if we can and if we can't we will not. simple really. We have good younger players, maybe a season or two off first team, but this is our model going forward. Wait for the right guy. Oli and EDDY surely prove that.

We are woefully short in the centre of defence and at RB - and have been for 2 years. That’s why we signed Comperr and Gamboa and they both failed. If we get past Rosenburg and don’t strengthen those areas we will face another PSG or Barcelona result. Fact.

Chinks there's no way we're signing players capable of going head to head with those sides this season. Luke GJ says, we have to develop them. That's our model. Now I always want to see us be as good as we can but when you look at the market, people expecting CL ready players need to take themselves for a walk. God forbid it crosses their minds that players have turned us down either. Two players we've been 'linked' to in the past, that I would have liked to see us sign - Gunn and Jahanbakhsh - have just went for 14m and 17m respectively; and there will be folk who haven't heard of either. That's what we're up against. All I am hoping for now is once the EPL window shuts, we can raid the lukes of City, Chelsea etc for players like Ntcham. There might be an opprtunity to get a more developed player in, we'll see.

@Chinks67. Woefully short? Gamboa not impress you midweek, there's also Ralston and Lustig coming back. You think three full backs is woefully short?

Boyata, Jozo hendry and Ajer, you could also throw Biton in. World cup and other factors hurt us thats' all. So four CB's with a possible fifth if we are in a tight spot Woefully short?

If anything I think we are woefully short at LB.
If anything happened tierney we are buggered. Calvin Miller isn't a left back and I wouldn't fancy arguably our best midfielder in McGregor moving there so a LB to cover tierney should be priority.
Gamboa may have done well midweek but he will never cut it in group stages. I still think he may leave before the window closes.
Lustigs long term position maybe at CB now that his legs are slowing but still enough quality to do a job for us.
Hopefully young Ralston pushes on this season but is no where near ready for CL football. This position will need addressed in January or at the latest next summer.
I'd prefer a new No1, Lb to cover tierney, an experienced CB and an AM to rival rogic.
I'll be happy with this if it happens.

Chink67 we could spend 20 million on our central defence and Barcelona and PSG can still do that
PSG have an attack force that's valued at around 500million.

I can't believe that we can only strengthen our squad by paying top Champions league prices.
I am certainly not expecting us to challenge the likes of PSG, Barcelona, or Real Madrid, that is nonsense, but we should be able to at least keep the score down against them.
Last season we were beaten heavily home and away by PSG, the year before we conceded 7 at Barcelona. As good as we were going forward on wednesday night, defensively we were poor, and I don't think if we were to draw any of these top teams again the result would be any different.
There are plenty of leagues in Europe and the world where players are priced more reasonably than in England, I'm sure if the club looked hsrd enough they could find players to improve us that are within our price range. We have done it before.

I wouldn’t write wee Gamboa off. I certainly think if he can keep up the form he showed he could be the RB, but, it’s a still an if. It might be the confidence boost he needs. I think we only need one CB. If we sell Boyata then that money needs to be reinvested in his position.

To keep moving forward requires we strengthen at the back. Mid to front, assuming we keep the moos looks very strong and with young Morgan in he looks a player too and big Eddy even at £9m already looks a steal.

If this you Aussie arrives it’s another class player. It really just a CB, again depending on Gamboa, away to Rosenborg will see if it was too soon to think he can step up I hope he can. I think there is a player in there so it’s up to him to show that. If he can’t then we need cover as young Ralston is not ready no matter how much we want him to be.

It is starting to take the oh so familiar pattern of not buying anyone. I think that’s risky. We have two rounds to go before we get into the mega bucks that I feel with superglue the coffin lid on Sevco. I absolutely believe if we strengthen the defense we can put some points on the board this year. The way we are playing us the best I have seen since MON days. A couple of additions defensively and and we could be even better than that great team.

A Treble Treble and putting up a fight in the group stages is within our grasp. Making that a reality I feel requires at least one solid addition to the defense.

28 Jul 2018 11:56:07
Lustig is never a cb not physical enough or quick enough if we need to strengthen that area buy someone. sounds too simple.

The player I worry most about at Celtic is Jack Hendry . I think Jack is very typical of the type of player Celtic should buy . He is an ideal fit for us, young, big, strong and seems very keen to learn . There is no point in having Brendan Rodgers as manager if we are not going to utilise Brendan's strengths, developing football skills and life coaching .
Brendan's biggest difficulty with Hendry won't be Jack, but I am afraid there is a small number but very loud fans who seem to take great delight in turning any mistakes by Jack into disasters .
Try to encourage Jack, that is more likely to improve him, than taking away his confidence by roaring abuse it him.

Chris I agree he gets a lot of stick. Yes he makes mistakes but what defender doesn't? Infact what player doesn't? unfortunately we don't shop in the finished article end of the market, personally I've enjoyed watching players like vvd, wanyama, teirney, edouard, Roberts etc (I could go on) , improve at our club, there's a lot to be admired about what's happening at celtic just now, but aside from the charity work, improving players has to be up there with the best of it, especially if they stay long enough to help us reap the rewards either in trophies or in transfer fees.
