So Armstrong is off. That's another squad player away for a decent fee. We head to Austria for our pre season. How do we work out signings when our manager and coaching staff are away? Is Lee Congerton working behind the scenes?

Telephones Ken 😋

The targets will have been drawn up before now mate (bar the possibilities of a player being offered to us or deals opening up later on in the window) so it's pretty much in the hands of PL to get deals done I'd imagine. BR will have his phone on him though, seriously.

Lee Congerton is the worse business we've done for years.

{Ed007's Note - Do you understand what a Head of Recruitment's job is? It was Congerton that recommended Edouard and laid the foundations of him joining on loan, he's probably still trying to clear up the mess John Park left.}

22 Jun 2018 22:17:20
Surely the targets have all been scouted and rated, and what needs to be done now could be completed by phone calls between Brendan &Peter.

{Ed007's Note - Brendan Rodgers doesn't care how much players are getting paid to model kits, I'm hoping any signings are further down the road than needing the manager's involvement.}

How true is this story ED in relation to the fee etc if true I think it's a loss.

Good luck to Stuart, I think he’s performed well for us and we seem to have got a fair deal with him only having a year left. I hope he plays well there and gets a bigger move . Unfortunately against quite a few on this site I don’t want us spending some of the cash out on Mcginn . I really don’t see where he can fit into our team at the minute . He’s not going to start ahead of Brown Ntcham, he won’t get the same amount of goals as McGregor, or is he going to take Rogic place so I really think it could be a waste of money. I appreciate he may be seen as browns replacement but he won’t want to come here to sit on the bench until Father Time starts catching up with the skipper, who shows no signs of slowing up yet.

{Ed007's Note - McGinn will contest with Ntcham to play beside Brown and hopefully Kouassi, he's a totally different player than McGregor and plays in a differenr position to him and Rogic. McGinn will play like Armstrong or Ntcham and get up and down the park while Brown sits back. I've said it for months that McGinn is an ideal replacement for Armstrong, he's already a better player than Brown was at that age and I have no qualms that he will become a great player for us and could potentially be captain material in years to come. Over time he will learn the game and become the same type of player as Brown but probably with more technical ability. }

The way your talking there Ed is like Mc Ginn has sighed for us . already?

{Ed007's Note - He hasn't. }

23 Jun 2018 05:53:23
I’d have to disagree with you there ed, it’s all about opinions but he’s not better than Ntcham so I see it as a pointless signing. I personally don’t see why we would want to sign a player who won’t come in and improve the team. Like you touched on, he will pretty much be fighting for Kouassi for game time as brown and Ntcham are now first picks . For me, we have better already and although he could go down south and his price rocket he’s just going to get a bench place. For me maybe the timing is wrong, would he be happy to come in and wait for game time
Or the odd midweek fixture when we are resting Brown . I know he’s one of us but I’m not sure.
In saying that I never rated McGregor until a couple of seasons ago and he’s pushed on and is one of our most consistent and classy players now so I’ll probably be proved wrong again 😂.

{Ed007's Note - He won't be fighting Kouassi for a place, they're different players and would be more likely play together. So basically you want to sign someone to replace Ntcham then?}

23 Jun 2018 09:04:20
Mcginn will improve us bhoys great player and a Celtic man.

23 Jun 2018 08:07:38
Ed you clearly rate Congerton and give him credit for Eduardo. Do we forget about.

Hayes, Benyu, De vries, Gambo, Kouassi, Hendry and Musonda.

All in my opinion not worked or working out.

{Ed007's Note - And you clearly don't know what you're talking about. Hayes, de Vries, Gamboa and Hendry were all players Brendan Rodgers targeted. Kouassi is just a kid who has a big future in the game as does Hendry, Benyu is another kid who cost butttons in training compensation and sadly even Rodgers couldn't get Musonda - another Rodgers target - to apply himself.}

23 Jun 2018 11:05:45
Is there a deal in the making for McGinn then Ed?

{Ed007's Note - Yes mate.}

23 Jun 2018 11:51:44
So Congerton has only been involved in the Eduardo deal all the rest are Brendans targets. No problem.

{Ed007's Note - I never said so there's actually two problems. The first is that you have no idea what you're talking about and the second is that you haven't even bothered to read what I've written.}

23 Jun 2018 12:04:06
Good bit business getting that fee! Clearly had no intention of staying with us for the long haul and was quite surprised he stayed last season! U think this will clear the way for McGinn to come in? How much u think it would take to bring him in?

23 Jun 2018 11:57:20
Ed, no I don’t want Ntcham replaced. That is in fact my point in that I don’t think we need Mcginn . I just can’t see where he fits in to the starting 11 regularly. Some people in here just want Mcginn as he is a Tim and wants to play for us.
On another point I read today about a possible loan for McTominay, have you heard anything? ( again I don’t think it’s what we need but it was on another site )

{Ed007's Note - So we lose Armstrong and don't replace him in the squad and Kouassi is probably going out on loan what happens if Ntcham or Brown need a rest or get injured, who comes into the team?
Some people don't want to sign McGinn because he isn't a fancy named foreigner and 'only' coming from Hibs. McGinn is already a better footballer than Scott Brown was at that age and is even probably a technically better and more skillful player than Brown has ever been.
What do you think of the Edouard signing, where does he fit into the starting 11 if Dembele stays and do you think we needed to sign him?}

23 Jun 2018 12:26:20
Hayes, de Vries, Gamboa and Hendry were all players Brendan Rodgers targeted you also added musonda to the list. I said no problem

Leaves kouassi and Benyu you gave a opinion on the 2 players. I said no problem

As I said in my original post IMO these players haven't worked out. It's just a opinion you have every right to disagree. Who was responsible for Commper just asking.

{Ed007's Note - Probably his mum and dad bumped uglies and 9 months later wee Marvin popped out. I'm trying to be nice here, you obviously don't have a clue what you're talking about or how scouting and transfers work but think about this - Brendan Rodgers has the final say on every player we sign for the first team squad so if you need someone to take the responsibility then it's the manager.
How you can form an opinion without understanding the facts is a bit of a push and there's a massive difference in your opinion and the facts. We've been through alll this before when Jonh Park and Lawwell were running the show and people not understanding jobs and how scouting and transfers work and I'm not doing it again, try the search function.}

23 Jun 2018 13:34:54
Of course the manager will have the final say and he will take advice from his head of recruitment . You say I don't understand the transfer structure which maybe so.

Looked up what Lawell said recently

ON CELTIC RECRUITMENT

“We have squad-planning meetings regularly with Brendan and Lee Congerton [head of recruitment].

“We understand the needs and wants of the manager in terms of people he may want to move on, and the positions and individual he wants to bring in to make the team better.

Lee Congerton heads up the Hoops’ recruitment department

“Lee will go out continually – it’s relentless – looking at options for these positions.

“We put together a proposal that would go to Brendan and the coaches and on a technical basis – they’ll say yes or no.

“Those that are said yes to, come to me then in terms of the understanding of what it’d take to either move a player on or bring a player in.

“Then we go to the market.

“There’s no other business like this in terms of the emotion.

I thought Congerton was identifying the players I mentioned. Was only going by the way Pedro said transfer policy worked. Obviously you have more inside information than me and if they are Brendans targets fair enough.

Hopefully Congerton can find more gems like Eduardo and Brendan doesn't recommend anybody else 👍👍👍.

I wonder what Hoppy takes to make him Happy .
Re- possible signing of McGinn, as long as it is the Hibs McGinn, I would be all for it
In my opinion and I know it's only the odd time I am right, the centre midfield area is the most important area of the team and whether u play with 2 or 3 you cannot afford to get beaten in that area . So you need your first team players and back-ups all fit and ready to go.
