With Rogic's contract up next year and BR hinting that he might fancy a new challenge, especially if he has a good World Cup, what would you prefer; cash in or keep him for one more year? The reason I ask is that we won't get a big sum for him when he can sign a pre-contract in January so would we be likely to get someone as good for, say £3m, in the current market? Ironically, the fact that we signed him for very little shows it can happen but bargains like that are rare.

Me personally kevbhoy I would keep hold of rogic we have money in the bank so if and when the time comes for him to leave then we could spend £3 million easily but I feel in my own opinion he would be hard to replace he has such raw talent.

02 May 2018 12:49:58
He is one of the most natural ball-players I've seen for a long time, but unfortunately, we rarely get 90 minutes out of him far less a full season - although players of his skill are very hard to find.
My thinking all along has been to try and keep him as it would seem that Armstrong has no wish to stay and along with the others that will be going out the door; therefor, try to add McGinn, Roberts and Edouarde - plus replace any defenders that are surplus/ not up to it.

02 May 2018 12:52:24
I totally agree with you. People can be very short sighted when they say take the money rather than lose him for nothing but he could very easily score the goal (s) that send us into the CL groups and bank us 5 or 10 times the fee we’d get. I’ve also said in the past if you offered me Dembele for his 4 years and leave for nothing I’d take it all day long. I’m a football fan first and foremost so I want the best players on the park. Unfortunately, his ambition and the figures being spoken about mean there’s no real chance of that.

02 May 2018 13:03:35
Keep him until the very last second we are a better team with him. We have plenty cash in the bank his goals etc will be worth more than a couple of million. Would love to see him sign a long term deal but if he does decide to go it will be with my best wishes, he has been a joy to watch and scored many a classic goal. Celtic will go on.

02 May 2018 14:07:49
I would be gutted to lose Rogic. I think he us about to blossom even further and is exactly the type of creative force we will need to step up in the CL.

I hope he stays.

02 May 2018 14:37:28
Cash in. And it's not short sightedness. If he wants to move on then he'll need replacing. Either now, 3m better off, or later, 3m worse off? Given that we don't pay more than 4-5m for a player anyway, selling him for 3m would be the sensible thing to do.

02 May 2018 15:29:42
Any names Jim/ Gents? I don't know how we will replace him. I'm sure it can and will be done if required. A huge loss though let's hope he signs up till 2023.

{Ed007's Note - We've already got his replacement in Callum McGregor with Ryan Christie and Lewis Morgan also able to play CAM as well.}

02 May 2018 16:10:14
I'd still rather have all 4 Ed. Wasn't aware Morgan could play there he's going to be a good addition i'm looking forward to seeing him.

{Ed007's Note - It's not Morgan's natural position but he can play there.}

02 May 2018 16:20:05
JimTim, I can't grasp why you think it's sensible to sell one of your main goal threats for £3m when qualification for CL groups guarantees upwards of £20m? Considering the amount of cash Celtic have pocketed over the past 2-3 seasons (CL x2, 50k+ season tickets x2, VVD fee plus sell on) , I'd rather take the risk of missing out on a relatively small transfer fee and have a player as gifted as Rogic in my team for those important games. If the player is being disruptive in their desire to leave fair enough and like I said, the Dembele type money is a different story as I totally understand the board will see it as too good to turn down.

{Ed007's Note - So why not sell him after the qualifiers are finished and we've bagged another year's CL money? It doesn't matter how much money we've banked it is bad management to let any player run down their contract and how do you know Rogic will stay fit?
Rogic has made 37 apps - a paltry 17 in the league - and has scored 8 goals with 8 assists too this season, Scott Sincair, Callum McGregor and even James Forrest blow those stats clean out water and Sinclair's had a poor season by his standards while Forrest had a poor 4/5 months until Sunday.
44 mins we got off Rogic over the 2 EL games we played after Christmas, in our 6 CL games he played 45, 65, 25, 26, 90 and 45 mins, how is that you having him for these important games?
You've got to remember too that tactically BR's hands are tied because when he picks Rogic he knows that's one of his substitutions used up before a ball is kicked which limits his choices if things aren't going well.
People are blinded by Rogic's goals against the Ibrox club and last years cup final, with his fitness problems he will never be a reliable member of the squad. He's a cracking technically gifted player but he is just so unreliable.}

Stuart Armstrong Musonda and the Ed’s suggestions could all replace him and do a similar job who covered for him through his multiple injuries? He is quality and a luxury to have but he has his draw backs too which is a shame. If he wants to go he goes and we get somebody to fill the void? I see more directors leaving the sinking ship more like honey at Ali g they will be getting in 😂🍀🏆.

{Ed007's Note - I forgot about Musonda, he was signed to play in there.}

02 May 2018 17:47:22
Musonda was loving the celebrations after the game on Sunday. He didn't look like a player in the huff as the media would like us to believe.

02 May 2018 19:00:38
Rogic is the best number 10 we have and given we only spend £4-5m max on players we are very unlikely to buy someone who is better than him.

If he leaves we’ll be a much weaker team. He can do things no one else can. Even look back all the way to August when we played Astana at home, 0-0 and tight game after 30 mins then Big Tam produces a bit of magic to get us ahead then they imploded and we went on to reach the group stages.

We should be doing everything we can to keep him.

And where has £3m came from? Hooper only had a year left and went for £5-6m and that was years ago. Fees are higher now I’d want £8m minium.

02 May 2018 19:22:08
Sell. He is very good player but can not be relied on.
For everyone saying it cost a lot to replace him how much did he cost?
If you think you are getting 8 million for a player that can't stay fit and very rarely plays 90 minutes your aff your nut.
Ed everything you have said on this post hits the nail right on the head for me.

{Ed007's Note - If he wasn't going into the last year of his deal I wouldn't be saying sell him but I'm against letting any player run down their contract. If a player can decide they don't want to be at Celtic in a years time why should the Club not decide they don't want him there this year?
Rogic has actually only played 167 games in his entire career (7 seasons with an average 59 mins per game) here and in Australia - for a player who turns 26 this year that's a terrible record, KT for a comparison has played 128 games in 3 seasons.}

02 May 2018 21:45:50
@Stan, I'd put it towards getting Roberts in permanently. Not a direct replacement no, but I'm still excited about Musonda and have a man crush on McGregor after this season.

@Kevbhoy, you must be able to grasp it mate, you posed it as an option.

@Ed007, I think I'm one of those that has been blinded to be honest. Heart says give him a deal, head says he's a liability. Do you think BR might have put him in the shop window by indicating he's open to a move? I hear the weather is nice down in Southampton.

{Ed007's Note - Those comments from Rodgers were a bit strange, did Rogic marry a Scottish girl, maybe his Mrs has had enough of the Scottish weather and fancies a change? I was told away last year that Rogic wouldn't be here next season but it was more a case that Celtic weren't offering him a new deal but then I was told that we had offered him a deal that was heavily performance related and nowhere near financially rewarding as Rogic was looking for, maybe his performances changed Rodgers' mind about offering him any kind of deal.
As I said, if Rogic wasn't going into the last year of his deal I wouldn't want him sold, he's not a big earner and his flashes of brilliance can outweigh the lack of continuous availability but when the player's looking for top dollar you need to ask if he is worth the outlay on a player that struggles to play 20 league games a season.}

02 May 2018 22:13:25
The guy has came a long way from winning the Nike academy. Grafted hard to get where he's at. If he moves on good luck to him but i would prefer he signed on for 10 in a row.

02 May 2018 22:05:20
Remember Morgan is a Scottish Championship player
BR has had Christie here twice and didn't want him .
Rogic is a star but is only a part time player .
Mosounda appears to be child like in appearance, maybe a touch of brilliance against Zenit .
I think BR either needs to promote a player from within the squad and stick with him for a good while or buy a natural player for Rogic's place.

02 May 2018 22:12:52
According to BR, Mrs. Rogic is also from Australia. I'd agree that we could afford a player who can make one hell of an impact despite missing game time on his current wages. But if he's asking for top end, then aye you're right there as well, it's too much of a risk. It'll be a sore one to take though if he goes somewhere and manages a full season 😂.

{Ed007's Note - Hey good luck to him, the lad's gave us some great memories and it's not as if he's a Paddy McCourt or Stokes, Rogic works hard in training and imo there could be some underlying issue with his fitness problems, maybe warmer weather would help that(?) but if he does leave I hope he does well and has a great career.}

03 May 2018 06:59:39
What has Morgan being a Scottish Championship player got to do with it Chris? Jackie McNamara was a Scottish Championship player for 4 years before joining Celtic, although then it was called Division 1.

03 May 2018 10:09:19
@Ed We could sell him after the qualifiers if the buying club were willing to wait, but for me it would be worth the risk of not getting a fee in order to have him here for those 8 games. I can't argue with anything you said about him being injury prone and unreliable in a fitness sense but I think with his current form we'd have a better chance of reaching the group stages with him in the squad.

@JimTim Of course I get why you would rather get some money than nothing, but when you look at the reward in comparison to the risk I still don't think it's necessarily the "sensible thing to do".

{Ed007's Note - Remember Rogic is going to the World Cup so he probably won't be in the squad for the early CL qualifiers, he will need a break and we're assuming he stays fit, the player himself might want to get any move done asap after the WC as well.}

03 May 2018 12:02:01
There are lots of factors including the fact that it’s not unlikely that he’ll pick up a knock at the WC which would probably rule him out of both a decent summer transfer AND the qualifiers.
