Why does the SPL have to wait to see who is in the two sections for the split?
Why not, at beginning of season have team 1 plays team 3, team 2 plays team 6 etc.? To me its a no-brainer or am I missing something? Whichever team finishes in the league position plays as I said earlier.
All clear before the season starts.

TT: the reason they can't do that is simple, they don't know is Sevco will finish in the top six. :)

The days that they stop finishing outside the top six will be the end of the split.

Fixed and a money spinner, spl suits at the scam again, yes it is a simple solution. let team A play team B etc. Aerosoles.

The reason they don't do that is because they try to make every team in the league play the exact same amount of games home and away as every Other team.

I think they should do away with the split once and for all.
As far as I know no other league does it this way and they seem to survive easily enough.
When you have a system that means one team has to go to a rival 3 times a season compared to playing them only once at home then that system is deeply flawed in my view.
If Hibs have to play Sevco away for a third time this season and lose, and were then to miss out on second place by a point, would that not destroy any credibility the league has in Scotland? .

Best chance of it being scrapped is if we do end up deciding it there and thumping them by a big margin:) .
On a lucid note if there is unrest and anti social behaviour stats released after the day/ night you can be guaranteed that there will be no clarification if those questioned or arrested by police were celtic or rangers. There never is. I have a retired uncle, done his full working life as a policeman. Protestant by family ties but a guy that couldn't be further from an active football fan. I remember when I was wee he always said the trouble and the workload was always greater when having to manage the blues. His opinion.
I don't see it being as much of a problem now. The majority of the orcs I know are neutered compared to what I remember them to be like. They still unleash it when they are in numbers but the wings are clipped for the most part.

They need to try and give every team 19 home and 19 away games, so doing as the op suggested has no guarantee of achieving that.

I would imagine that at he start of the season they try and work out the team's that will finish top 6, and try do the fixtures in such a way that that each of those teams will play 2 home and 2 away against each other, as well as have 19 home and 19 away.

Obviously, the predicted teams may well change by the time the split comes, which means the plan may not work. I realise my assumed method may not be what happens but this would be the sensible way.

At start of season I think most of us would have predicted that Celtic, rangers, Aberdeen, hibs and hearts would finish top 6 but few would have predicted killie.

Regardless of any of this, each team should be going into the split either having played 17 home and 16 away or 16 home and 17 away. If this is not the case, then whoever done the fixtures ballsed it up.
