Morning Ed i hope you are well. I read back last night and the one topic that I have to comment on is regarding Tommy Burns, a man I hold in the highest regard, not just as a Celt but as a man. We say we are a club like no other. Well Tommy was a man like no other and to have Lennoxtown renamed in his honour is a must. I have mentioned many times I would love to see the next Statue fan funded and what better person than Mr Celtic, he was not just a great player, a great manager, a great man, he was one of us. Please can someone who is able to start a petition get it shared all across social media and let's get this proposal to the club. He gave so much to others let's get Lennoxtown renamed and a statue built for Tommy. I would like to end by saying how saddened i am to hear about Liam Miller my thoughts go out to him and his family at this very difficult time. I hope it is a battle he can win. YNWA.

{Ed007's Note - Nice to see you back posting, Stan and I hope you're keeping well mate. I've never mentioned on the site about your accident or how serious it was until now when you will see everyone's best wishes.
Everybody - apart from Old Chris (surprise, surprise) - seems to be in agreement about renaming Lennoxtown and a TB statue but for some strange reason it never seems to get off the ground. Maybe it's something someone can organise with some effect in the new year and push it on. Having fans pay for the commissioning of a statue means the Club's costs for such action would be a minimal.}

Agree4 Disagree0

Not sure how TB would have felt about having his own statue being as humble as he was but 100% Lennoxtown should have been named after him long ago!

13 Nov 2017 12:11:19
Thanks Ed, i can get back to posting nonsense again im one of the lucky ones. I hope someone can get the TB thing started just really need someone who has the ability to get it up and running and spread all over social media, there's no one more deserving.

{Ed007's Note - I can't think of anyone else more deserving either mate.}

13 Nov 2017 12:58:49
Here here ed and glad your well stan.

13 Nov 2017 13:45:11
Sorry, but while I admire TB the same as the rest of you, I believe the next statue should be wee Fergus.
You look at what has happened to that mob across the city and that's when you appreciate what the Bunnet actually did for our club.
Yes, he made a profit but it was a massive win/ win. He told us up front what he was going to do and kept his word.

Just my opinion.

{Ed007's Note - That is just NEVER going to happen.}

Hi Stan, Nice to see you back mate

I am sure I don't have a monopoly on this mate there would certainly been someone before me but I have been pushing this and discussing with Ed he has a fav picture picked out like Gordo I have the emotive one ( IMO ) of Tommy almost prayer like

Again having discussed it with another poster jb67 when I got a serious turn a while back I looked into and made tentative enquiries it's complicated mate there is copyright issues ( possibly ) and emotive ones

It would cost about £1,500 plus VAT for something the size of a biggish ornament, about £10,000 k plus vat for something the size of a big dog mate I have no idea what it would cost for the bigger stuff mate but it would take about a YEAR to have the bigger of the two mate

But like you would love the fans to "chip in" where they could to have one commissioned (y)

13 Nov 2017 16:17:14
Tinytim I agree and have been saying for a long time that Fergus deserves a statue.

13 Nov 2017 16:23:18
Thanks gents, appreciate the reply Jamie and great work taking the time to look into it previously. Agree with the 'prayer' like pose what a special/ iconic statue that would be. I honestly believe we could hit the target needed no problem you only have to look to what was raised last season for Palestine in such a short time. TT i certainly don't object to that while TBs would be more fitting alongside the renamed Lennoxtown having others like Fergus Henrik McStay etc around the Celtic Way would be magnificent imo. Im all for naming the North Stand in honour of Fergus, and why not Willie Maley for the South. These are all things that should be looked at and it makes it more special if the fans are involved.

13 Nov 2017 16:57:39
Hi Stan, good to have you back on here with intelligent suggestions, we need yours to counter my unintelligent ones lol, some form of permanent tribute to Tommy would be fantasic, let us hope in 2018 he is forever recognised for his services to Celtic Football Club.
On a personal note Stan, I hope all your injuries and health problems are behind you. hail hail.

{Ed007's Note - Next year will mark the 10th anniversary of his passing too Timbo.}

13 Nov 2017 17:21:36
Sorry to hear you had a bad one Stan, hope you are ok now. The problem in my opinion about statues outside our ground is that if too many are erected it kind of saturates the significance of them? Whilst I have no doubt that McCann saved our club from extinction, this was part of a business plan that required funding and ultimately paid him a handsome walk away cheque. As the largest asset Fergus left behind, I have no problem with some kind of naming of a stadium area after him.

Tommy though was Mr Celtic. He deserves to be lauded by the club after everything he stood for and naming Lennoxtown after him would be a very fitting tribute as he was so involved in us having a state of the art training academy.

It's a yes from me.

13 Nov 2017 17:52:59
Again thanks gents back to normal thankfully, Timalloy you can keep the unintelligent ones coming they did me ok for the Kentucky Derby! HH.

13 Nov 2017 17:36:20
Good to see u back Stan. Hope your on the mend. A statue of Tommy Burns would be a great tribute, a fan funded one would be even better since he was in his opinion just a fan that got lucky. It was inevitable anyway but I fell in love with celtic watching his team, to this day it's the best fitba I've seen at parkhead. Beautiful stuff.

13 Nov 2017 17:37:14
Good to hear your doing well Stan. A crowd funded statue for T B would reach its target in days with our fantastic fanbase no matter the cost.

13 Nov 2017 19:23:59
Thanks gents its good to be back and i've enjoyed reading the replies and other posts. JCGE.

13 Nov 2017 19:33:35
Sorry to hear of your misfortune Stan. I'm glad to hear that you are on the mend.
I also think that naming Lennoxtown after Tommy Burns would be a fitting tribute for all he has done for our club.
He did a great job as player and manager, but he was such a special man, and having that type of person at our club is what makes me proud to be a Celtic supporter.

13 Nov 2017 20:16:27
Thanks Gerry. He was a special man indeed. I could probably talk about him all night with you lot. keeping Ed busy just how he likes it. Would love to read any stories whether it be from games, face to face meetings or just memories if people have time to post.

14 Nov 2017 01:36:25
Glad your on the mend Stan, always enjoy your posts so I’m glad your back.
Yes for me on the TB statue- question would the statue not be better at the ground where every visitor to paradise can see it? I agree on the ‘praying pose’
Name a stand after the bunnet - his vision (albeit a business plan) brought it about
I would also be in favour of naming lennoxtown after TB.

We used to play a memorial match for ma uncle who died in a road accident when he was only 29, we played a load of celtic fans from Dumfries who ma uncle and his pals from Coatbridge used to meet up with for euro away games, not 100% but I think they met in cologne. Anyway the game was every year, home one year away the next, one of the times Tommy Burns was contacted to see if he could get us into barrowfield for the game, not a problem he said, it was a brilliant day, even though I always preferred the away legs. It's been a few years since the games been played now though. Ma uncle took me to the jungle the first time I was in there, must've been about 12, he gave me his celtic watch that day n av still got it, he was one of the good ones, die hard.

14 Nov 2017 07:09:10
Appreciate that IC thanks.

Great story Steph, sorry to hear that he is still a huge loss im sure. Its a shame the game is no longer played i've seen it myself with pool/ darts memorial competitions over time as people grow older or move away these things are unfortunately forgotten. Not surprised Tommy did that. Can you imagine a book of these type of stories regarding TB it would be some read. Would need every tree in the amazon to make it.

14 Nov 2017 09:45:14
The game was played for 15/ 16 years Stan so it had good innings and a lot of new friendships forged. He definitely is still a big miss, his son that he never got to see is a fine young man now and even without his dad's influence is Celtic daft even tho his mum married a current bun when he was still impressionable. His dad would be proud of him.

14 Nov 2017 11:51:22
Glad to hear it Steph, Being a Tim alone puts him on the right path his father would be proud. HH.

14 Nov 2017 14:00:38
Thought you hadn't posted in a wee while Stan. Good to hear you're back on your feet. Hail Hail.

14 Nov 2017 15:19:09
