Just read that Liverpool are opening the Kenny Dalglish Stand. Would like to see us rename the North Stand. The Fergus McCann Stand in the Bunnet Bowl.

Agree6 Disagree3

You know Stan sometimes a wonder if we EVER had a poll who was your least favourite Celt / individual connected who we would vote for mate well mines would be the wee bunnet EASILY

You see

1) He walked in the door with a five year plan that's not a celt at HEART that is a businessman

2) He build a stadium with our own money via a share issue

3) Nearly never did the Andy Thom deal only to see the mob outside the front door

4) Short changed Tommy Burns at every turn mate and treated him like CHIOTE now there is a man to name something after who really and truly I said on here both before worth talking about

5) Promised players new / better deals that he never kept his word too

6) Short changed us with the Wim WHO? appointment that fair enough paid off but when he couldny stick him did it again with Dr Jo whose finest hour was to give us Lubo

7) Then waltzed out the door with his big fat swag bag **** me our great club even managed to land him a bird!

Please don't tell me that he saved us in our darkest hour because the Weisfeld's where in the background thought they had secured it and had bigger pockets than the bunnet did!

His finest hour was sorting out Jim Farry mate

Bunnet lov'in no TY (Y)

He was definitely a celt at heart.
If build him a statue.

06 Oct 2017 16:12:55
Have to disagree with that Jamie we have plenty to thank him for he built the foundations for the success we are currently having. I couldn't care less that he spent our cash that's the way Celtic operated then and now the fans were happy to throw their cash at the club because times we changing a new stadium and trophies being won again. Gerald Wiesfeld was never out of the papers in 95 why couldn't he secure a takeover prior to McCann. Understand McCann wasnt everyones cup of tea but the Bunnet Statue outside Paradise would be well deserved in my opinion. Put it this way would you rather McCanns way of doing things or Dave Kings!?

06 Oct 2017 16:21:43
I should really have said Dave King/ David Murray. Atleast it was our cash and not loans.

06 Oct 2017 16:45:54
SO he was a Celt @ heart from his 40 year Canada base where he discovered he could make money from showing a CCeltic game live? When his business was GOLF?

No fan of SDM but I quote " Fergus is the only MAN I know who made money out of football"

But I agree with you Stan it was our cash not Fergus's cash It's our stand not his (Y)

06 Oct 2017 16:52:53
I can remember thinking the same way as u back then jamie but in hindsight i don't think it matters if he had celtic at heart or mot he turned things around and as stan said put down the building blocks too whete we are today🇮🇪✌️.

06 Oct 2017 17:20:58
One thing is for sure Jamie it's the fans cash that keeps this club on it's feet.

06 Oct 2017 17:40:10
can see both sides of the arguement but imo it took someone like fergus with the foresight to be purely business minded and build the stadium. most "with celtic at heart" wouldve and understandbly so put heart above head and invested in the team. I have no issues with him looking back and where we are now.

06 Oct 2017 17:56:02
McCann never hid the fact that he was only in it for the short term but he did promise that the club would have a new stadium and would be in a financially secure position when he left. Our club was heading for the cliff edge but he was the only one who stood up and dragged us back from the abyss. For me Mccann will always be our saviour and we will always be in his debt.

06 Oct 2017 17:59:43
SDM must be forgetting the £6million he purloined in an EBT.

06 Oct 2017 18:11:09
Jamie he was from kilsyth and use to travel to Celtic games on the croy bus before he left for Canada.

06 Oct 2017 18:30:48
Should arrange a Bunnet day for a home and away game every season it would be hilarious.

06 Oct 2017 18:33:54
Well said Lawman.

06 Oct 2017 18:42:26
If people want to believe Fergus was the only suitor for our great club they are delusional

He used Brian Dempsey's popularity and position and dumped him shortly after

He took a position no more no less he delivered

Fergus McCann the man who tried to stop Tommy Burns walk out the front door the day he sacked him

PL and DD get it tight on here how long have they been involved in Celtic? Did they start with an exit strategy?

The weisfeld's have spent more money on Celtic than Fergus did all in and still do aw that is right the bunnet buys four season tickets a season

He is to be thanked but not lauded that is BS (y)

06 Oct 2017 20:48:28
Jamie didn't Fergus used to go to games when he was oung before he emigrated, I sure I read somewhere many moons ago that he went on the Croy bus but I may be wrong.
The thing about him is he taught all of us a valuable lesson on how to run a club, we all wanted to spend spend spend back in the day thank feck we didn't.
Just look at what happened Motherwell, Hearts Dundee etc all in admin or severe financial turmoil and a certain club dying.
Most other clubs have had serious difficulties mate tour a business man u know better than I but its cos of him we have never had to suffer since.

06 Oct 2017 21:36:00
Lot of people on this thread I enjoy speaking too

Rayman if a Romanov or a Mileson or the way Murray latter run the zombies or a Whyte what Fergus did or didn't do wouldn't have mattered a jot

Listen here a different take on things this year we made a 1,150 % profit up from last year at roughly the same time we give a, talented manager a four year contract and then ten days later pay for Ncham that deal if they wanted should have got done quicker to dilute taxable profit's that tells me a 67 yr old major stock holder and a 58 yr old CEO who has already said that he won't go by 60 are making our club look attractive

That is business Rayman 👍.

06 Oct 2017 22:07:49
2 bottles of bucky for £12 at the shop noo that's business.

06 Oct 2017 22:33:38
That's your type of business Wb lol

Craig Whyte was a Rangers fan and a business man and that worked out well too :-P (Y)

Just business.

06 Oct 2017 22:50:51
Fergus wasn't everyone's cup of tea, myself included when he was here. I booed myself when the flag was unfurled and I'm ashamed of that. He never lied once about what he was doing. He stuck to his plan, if we agree or not, and got rid of the family dynasties that held us back for so long.

Sure he got help along the way, Mr Keane, Dempsey, the Weisfelds and Dermott to name a few. But what he didn't do was liquidate our club when he would've made even more money. So be thankful for that or all our slagging of Sevco wouldn't be happening just now.

06 Oct 2017 22:56:42
And he did go to the games on the Croy bus, the story goes that he still owes dues! Think we'll let him off.

06 Oct 2017 23:09:50
Jamie i've been going through some scrapbooks i had stashed away i made them in the 90s. A good few articles regarding todays discussion its interesting reading. Cracking picture of Weisfeld and McCann shaking hands underneath Celtic Legends painting. Weisfeld is wearing a grey hat, tinted shades, a pink scarf, white trenchcoat with a black tie that has white hearts on it haha. I will upload on sightings page.

06 Oct 2017 23:55:17
I think the people critical of McCann, should be placed under the heading "they don't know how lucky they were"!

07 Oct 2017 02:44:41
I have had plenty of negative comments about Fergus, especially after the Croatia Zagreg result, Jock Brown and ofcourse the Simon Donnelly pointing penalty v Aberdeen. But let's be clear without him we would have been another Hearts. However thank God it never went that far never mind. DEATH. then pretending it didn't happen lol. Jim Traynor would never have let US lie like that.

07 Oct 2017 03:21:17
Aindoh I think people critical of watching the football on the radio 📻 should by a big telly:-) 👍.

07 Oct 2017 03:57:57
Jamie this is no like you mate your usually positive, did u suddenly find out u had an EBT back in the day lol.

07 Oct 2017 07:28:28
What about Elliot he had an ET.

07 Oct 2017 09:54:23
Croybhoy I heard that about owning the bus money. Wee McCanns cousin huge lived next to my dad in condorrat and he told us that story years back. Said he would walk fae kilsyth to croy to save on the bus fair.

07 Oct 2017 11:02:58
Jamiebhuoy, 👍.

07 Oct 2017 12:32:40
Club thriving stadium looks great money in tbe bank 7 iar certainty. mccann built the foundations; yes he could have spent more on players but then some of our support want the present regime to spend more and we're miles ahead.

07 Oct 2017 18:40:27
Jamiebhoy, can't believe in that long list you missed his most heinous crime - employing Jock Brown - as for myself I am now a fan of the bunnet and what he did for our great club with 129 years of unbroken history (see what I did there) , I would now be in favour of either a statue or a stand named after him.

07 Oct 2017 20:57:07
Don't agree with you jamie
Fergus tenure was tough but I believe it set us up for where we are today. I don't care if he made money, he laid out his plan and walked away big deal. Who cares if he was a Celtic man or not he saved the club albeit he did it for a profit, but he was prominent in our salvation.

We are the top club in Scottish football and long may it last.
You don't have to love the man but I Believe he is a man to be revered for what he did. Especially as history has shown what it could have done to our wonderful club.
RIB
Rangers.

07 Oct 2017 22:19:48
What McCann did for us is what should be happening over at Sevco.
Clubs at the end of the day need to be built on a sound financial base, it doesn't sit well with fans when they see their rivals are outclassing them on the field but spending money you can't afford is only going to get you in worse trouble down the line.
When people say it's easy for us, and that we have no competition, they forget the hardships our club went through to get here, our club has been run correctly over the last few years, that's why we can enjoy the good times now.
The fact that other clubs are run in a shambolic way and try to spend money they don't have is their fault, it's certainly no reason to take the achievements away from us.
It shows the value of good management, and that you can't take shortcuts and cheat your way to success.

08 Oct 2017 11:35:45
I hated him for the way he treated TB. I booed him and I have no regrets. He refused to buy the CB we needed that would or could have helped us stop them.

He did marshal our own money well and that cannot be denied. He left with £40m un his back pocket so he put in feck all. We did.

This hero worship of him makes me want to puke. We booed him for a good reason and they still stand for me.

Our money built Celtic and with the leftovers he filled a big bag and fecked off.

Hero my arse.

08 Oct 2017 17:27:34
That's true Kev, owes himself a fiver does Wee Fergus. Can't believe the negativity towards him, sure he made mistakes, biggest one with TB, but look at what condition he left the club in. And we stopped 10 in a row, that'll do for me.
