I hope if Lawwell is leaving the next CE does not sell players on the cheap. Top dollar is what we want for top players Wanwayma and VVD sold cheaply with small bonus for sell on we should ask more and 20/ 30% sell on and if they don't like it tough. Talk tough and negoicate hardball.

My thoughts adzactly no more 15 mill for our best stars play hard ball even le tiss is banging on about our scouting network been top drawer so top dollar or no deal.

I honesty think one of Lawwell's strongest points has been his ability to squeeze the last top penny for the players he is selling .
Selling from what is regarded by many as an inferior league players who are earning a fraction of what players receive in England makes it almost impossible to get English inflated prices .
In the past Rangers may have had ex managers who paid stupid money to Rangers for players but that doesn't happen any more.

No fan of Lawwell but I'd imagine there's few better to have in your corner when it comes to negotiating.

{Ed007's Note - The rumours seem to have died down a bit but if Lawwell is leaving we'll be hard pressed to find a CEO as good as him. I can't fault him for the way he runs the financial and commercial side of things, look at our sponsorship deals, look at the stadium and The Celtic Way. It was when he started dabbling in the football side of things it went a bit haywire, he wasted millions in the transfer market on some stupid and some downright strange deals, Carlton Cole?
Now he's been reigned in a bit I'd actually be delighted for him to stay, maybe the new hands-on approach from the board, the higher budget and the buzz created by Rodgers appointment will reinvigorate Lawwell and make him eager to see how far we could go.}

Does anyone know the reasons that Lawwell would want to leave? .
It seems odd to me that after the last few seasons when he became unpopular, that he should now want to leave at a time when the clubs position seems to be getting stronger.
You would imagine that our bargaining position regarding selling players must be stronger than it has been for a while, therefore he should get higher bonuses out of these deals. Equally, with the club doing well at the moment it must be easier to attract young promising players to the club.
I don't get to hear what goes on behind the scenes on a day to day basis living down here, but it just seems an odd time for him to want to leave, has there been a bust up behind the scenes? .

{Ed007's Note - It might not be Lawwell's choice, Gerry, the board might think we need some new blood and fresh ideas in there, they might not see him as capable of making us AND keeping us a CL club, after all he's dropped the ball a few times over the years and failed to strengthen from a position of power.
There's no getting away from the fact that Lawwell's been as responsible as anyone for the poor way the Club has been ran since the MON days, with his ego he might not like the dilution of his power and the loss of his ally John Park. I've always thought that Pedro had one eye on a job at UEFA so maybe there's a chance of that or even a top EPL club might tempt him and he's not getting any younger.}

Great summary Ed. for a while he was doing a great job then, as you pointed out, some strange player signings. Most of his power abuse was whe RD was here. RD was a nice guy but not strong enough. I am sure BR has laid his conditions down which is showing on/ off field now. Pal is, overall, right fir the job (when kept to what he does best)

{Ed007's Note - Cheers, TT (yes)

Thanks for that ED, I've always accepted that we will have to sell on our best players, it's just the reality of the league we are in.
My gripe has always been not about the players we sell, rather the quality of players we have brought in to replace them with, I'm sure that better quality replacements could have been brought in rather than a lot of the duds that we did buy (Cifti, Cole, Pukka, etc) , a lot of them didn't end up saving money anyway as the crowds dropped off.
Sometimes you can try to be too clever, I think that was maybe the situation with Lawwell.

{Ed007's Note - The overhauling of the scouting department will hopefully put paid to scouring the planet for projects while we overlook the quality that must also be on show. Sometimes you need to buy players for the here and now rather than a youngster you need to nurture over 2 or 3 years to reap the benefits.}

Love him or hate him he is admired from afar, he will walk into another job no problem, would like him to stay tbh.

IMO Lawwell is an excellent CEO. As long as he sticks to his role as CEO . I think too many managers hadn't enough confidence in themselves or were too lazy to insist that they had complete and total control over all football issues . Once Lawwell got involved in choosing players we were in trouble.

Think he's done a fine job apart from what ed touched on regarding football side but all other areas he's as good as there is even the Barcelona president came out and complimented him after cl game.

Don't understand the let players go on the cheap and getting top dollar for players! Any player that leaves our club for 10 million or over we're doing well! We've got to remember what league we're playing in lads!

Think Lawell has done great getting the money he has for VVD, wanyama and forrester! If anybody thinks we're going to sell our players regularly for £20 million plus then they're living in a fantasy!

Yes dembele mite be the exception but it won't be a regular thing. if Lawell keeps his nose out of football matters then I don't think we could do any better in his position.
