This is why I get so peed off with the "hard midweek game so players will be tired" There are 11+ PROFESSIONAL (their only job, not working at anything else) players sharing the load on an average 90 minute game. Tennis players are out there for hours sometimes on their own. No substitutes. So this crap about tired after a midweek game just does not wash with me. On top of which, they are very well paid compared to the punters who turn up week after week (including those tiring midweek games) under their own steam - no fancy flights or coaches, hotels etc with all mod cons.

He is undoubtedly Soctland's greatest ever tennis player but he has some great contenders for the title of greatest sportsman. That is not to take anything away from his achievements because they have been phenomenol.

Stephen Hendry - dominated snooker for years, breaking all sorts of records, some of which he still holds today. Not only that he modernised snooker.

Ken Buchanan - Scotland's greatest boxer and I believe the only one that has made it to Boxing's Hall Of Fame.

Kenny Dalglish - Probably Scoptland's greatest ever football player, who was a star man in a great Celtic team before moving to Liverpool and repeating the feat at arguably the best team in Europe.

Chris Hoy - 6 time Olympian gold medalist and dominated his sport for close to a decade.

Jackie Stewart - won 3 world titles and was runner up twice. Was our best racing car driver of all time.

Personally I would say Stephen Hendry was the greatest Scottish sportsman of all time, just because of how much he dominated his sport over a prolonged period. Would put Jackie Stewart and Chris Hoy just behind Hendry. But it is all a matter of opinion when you are comparing people from different sports. Murray has been unlucky that he has had to compete in an era that has had 3 of the best tennis players of all time.

Although I tend to agree Rab, it's a bit like comparing apples and oranges. To be the best in your chosen sport is the ultimate accolade so it's quite difficult to put it down to a single decision. My personal choice would be Stephen Hendry as not only did he excel at snooker at such a young age, he actually changed the way snooker was played. He made it the more attacking game it is today and his dominance at the time was sublime. I grew up watching Hendry and he made snooker so much more interesting to the masses.
I remember watching Chris Hoy in the Beijing Olympics and being totally over-awed by the guy, again in London 4 years later. A truly outstanding cyclist.
Well done to Andy Murray, he is an excellent tennis player who still has a few years left to get even better.

Greatest ever team no debate the Lisbon lions.

In my opinion, Andy Murray has done fantastically especially considering the level of the opposition he has faced. But I believe Kenny Dalglish is the greatest sportsman there has ever been. Bar none.
