I see an awful lot of the zombies are bumping their gums about this breaking "Celtic Tax Case" and how the SFA will let us away with it etc lol. Nothing in the rag links THE CLUB to any avoidance scheme whatsoever, just current/ former employees allegedly doing the dirty with their own personal finances. A total non-story. Ex Aberdeen and St. Mirren players also mentioned, should we sanction those clubs too?

Oh Cee, how niave you are.
First off, if anyone is found guilty of tax evasion/ avoidance and they are culpable for monies owed, then they shall feel the full force of HRMC. And they should have to pay.
Secondly, as stated above, Celtic have no part to play in this. As mere employees of the club, they have (through their own free will) potentially got involved and if guilty should have to pay their debts back.
Thirdly, and here's my favourite bit. This is a rehash of a 2012 article, so nothing new to read here. Therefore the forces of darkness are clearly attempting a diversion for something bad about to happen down Govan way. We all know the score and how the MSM work, we have learnt their ways. If only everyone learnt their lesson then we would all be much stronger. I can't wait to see what's round the corner, and it's coming fast.

I accept it fully Cee, and those employees will feel the wrath of HMRC if found guilty of wrongdoing but there is no suggestion from the article that Celtic as a club were any way involved, apart from the mischieviously worded headline, and will therefore not be liable for any tax bill (s) .

Tax avoidance is not a crime Cee, unlike tax evasion and tax fraud. For a detailed explanation OF 'EVASION' and 'FRAUD' please refer to Rangers before they went belly up, their actions will give excellent examples. lol HH.
{Ed007's Note - Celtic have no control over what their employees do with their money. This straw clutching by supporters of Scotland's newest club is the equivalent of accusing your son's employer of being a drug dealer because your son bought a bag of weed with his wages.
Celtic's payments of income tax, national insurance and VAT are full and completely up to date and so this regurgitated story (it's old news and has been reported numerous times before) has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Celtic Football Club.
The interesting thing is WHY has the Record ran with this story again, Oh look - a squirrel....
BTW, I've got a list of Oldco Rangers players and staff that were involved in these film schemes AND received EBTs, including Sir Walter of Particularly, Craig Moore, Barry Ferguson etc. Wee Barry is in serious financial trouble after getting his tax bill and HMRC refusing to cut him a deal because he admitted he tried to hide income from them. And that's without taking his EBT into consideration.}

Just the usual from this scumbag newspaper, nothing to report again so they bring up an old story, the old story thing seems to be the direction the scumbag newspaper is going in, few weeks ago it was dembele being watched by a host of teams, same teams that were looking at him before he signed for us, common sense would suggest of course they will be watching him to see progression just because a player signs for a team doesn't mean clubs won't keep watching the boy. Now we have this a story I remember reading ages ago, gets dragged up, why? Keep the focus off the knuckle-dragging halfwits and the mess that they are TRULY in. Cee and his LOT won't be intelligent enough to understand the difference between this story and theirs! They will be wanting CFC shut down, make it easier for them to get 3rd or 4th and that's me being generous.

the key point in the whole scenario which has conveniently been left out is that celtic had initially used ebt scheme, realised that it was not above board and immediately repaid due tax to hmrc.
personally i'm expecting an even bigger witch hunt against club after sutton tearing johnstone a new hole. this is media closing ranks trying to get one over us. really hope we do the treble this season even more now.

Quite right DN30. There are some who think Celtic closed down the EBT scheme due to a moral stance and there is the more realistic theory that they foresaw some massive financial repercussions further down the line. Either way they got rid, paid the money owed and, as Ed has stated, have had squeaky clean books ever since. The Treble's definitely on the cards and if we get through on the 23rd all the media hysteria about it will go into overdrive just like last year when RD never muttered a word about it yet was asked about it in every press conference in order to set us up for an almighty fall.

I heard it was when Brian quinn heard about the ebt scheme that he was one at celtic to say it was dodgy and made sure that it was checked out officially.

@DN30 - Just wanted to clarify the difference between Celtic's use of EBT and Rangers use of them.
Celtic did in fact use an EBT on one occasion. The EBT in question was used to pay severance to Juninho when we terminated his contract. There are a two reasons it was different from the ones used by Rangers.
1. Because it was used to pay severance that means it was not a payment for footballing duties and for that reason we did not have to declare it the SFA in regards to his registration. This is why no action has been brought against our club.
2. When we realised it may be deemed tax avoidance we contacted HMRC and paid the tax owed on the payment. This is why HMRC have never taken us to court for unpaid tax.

Cee you think Celtic employees trying to avoid tax is newsworthy .
Mr David Cameron the British Prime Minister for Six yrs up to this summer Father used tax avoidance, over sees banking to avoid tens of thousands of tax annually . Current Prime Minister Mrs T May 'husband currently also saves thousands tax per year . Tax avoidance hasn't affected these house holds very much.

RabMac To be honest when I posted last post, I couldn't remember full story of situation regarding EBT. Just the main and crucial point, the club rectified situation. What is alarming regarding demise of Rangers is as ed007 mentioned, it was Brian Quinn who raised concern.
Ive not one doubt David Murray knew about this concern from someone like Quinn and decided to take gamble and carry on using EBT to an unfair advantage.
