If you look at the big scores from the recent european games, what does it tell you?, that there's a big gulf between this lot and that lot?, what it says to me, is that certain nanagers and teams seem to get affected by what I will call europeaninitis, it does'nt matter how well the team is playing domestically, the team and tactics must be changed because they are now playing in europe, Barcelona might be a very good team, but they only look like the greatest team ever when they play teams afopting the same tactics as Celtic adopted, maybe I am wrong and they win every game in Spain 7-0,but I doubt it, because over there, other teams will be fighting to win points to strengthen their positions in the league, not stsnding of them admiring the so-called 'best players 'in the world, the weakest part of Barcelona is their defence, Celtic should have tried ti have a real go at them, and got stuck in and challenged and hounded, fairly and squareley for every ball, they would probably still get beat by a few goals but at least they would have scored some.

simplistic - but you are underestimating the quality of barca.

its not simply when they have the ball they can find space - its when they don't have the ball - every one presses - everyone.

so you are scott brown - you are used to having 10 secs on the ball domestically - you play Barcelona and as soon as the ball is despatched towards you - or even sooner it the pass is anticipated to come to you - there is a man on you.

you simply can't say scott brown should think faster - he doesn't have that ability - but all of the Barcelona midfield and forward line do have that ability to think that fast - that's why the are brought in to play the Barcelona way

if they are ranked no1 in Europe - where are we?

Perhaps we could have taken the game to them more, but I agree with digibanger, it is just too simplistic. Their defence might not be the strongest (it's still pretty darn good) but their midfield and attack are that good on the ball, and the way they defend and move as a team, is arguably THE best. There are teams much better than us that have 'tried to have a go at them' and ended up p*ssing into the wind.

We have played Barcelona several times and most of them have been a lot closer matches than the last two.
During our contests they have always had better players than us (some world class) and were rated in the top few teams of Europe.
The difference in recent years is that our standards and quality of player have dropped so much and with it, a defeatist attitude and acceptance of our limitations.
Of course we were well beaten, but those other Celtic teams in previous years would have gone down fighting and battling.

What was the piint of chsnging a team that was playing relatively well, if everyone was expecting us to get beat anyway, ok, it might be simplistic, but would rather that we came out more, worse teams than Celtic, will get better results against Barcelona, by playing different systems, don't fall into the trap of thinking that they are supermen.

Another argument would be that we should just put 11 men in our own box for 90 mins. Perhaps we'll get a point off them that way.

any team playing Barcelona should use only 1 tatic.
541.
5 players on the goal line
4 players on the 6 yard line
1 player on the penalty spot.
Come on Barcelona score 7 through that lol.

15 Sep 2016 14:21:20
How many times do they score 7 in the domestic league?

Far too many Barcelona admirers and apologists on here.
Aye they're a great side, but I have seen us beat OR at least compete with countless great sides over the years and we have never, ever been big spenders or had teams full of super-stars.
I have watched Leeds Utd, Man Utd, Real, Juventus, AC and Inter, Barcelona themselves and other top sides, all play us in European competition and we never surrendered and chucked it like Tuesday.
There is a pride and passion that comes with the jersey and if you watch Celtic The Musical you will see cameos of players who won with style and lost with fight and always earned respect.

yes they can be beaten

but remember how tight la liga has been in the last 4/ 5 seasons - not only real challenging and winning but Atletico as well now.

so much so that Barcelona RESTED top players at weekend - and paid the price - rested them so they could be full force against who - CELTIC!

They didn't underestimate us - they respected us that much.

So a far better team, resting players and getting beat in their very tight league - can you imagine if we rested players last Saturday?

I am not standing back and admiring Barcelona - and saying that's why we got beat - admiration has nothing to do with it.

Its a Stone cold fact. so we line up 5-4-1 - put extras in defence and we still got pumped! .

I agreed it didn't work. we should have played our own game - and perhaps we will at home. but if its 8-0 because we play expansively - don't come greetin in here!

There was no doubt we were wide open on Tuesday and should have been tighter .
The problem of making up your own word is that no one understands your point . Barcelona are a fantastic team and standing back admiring them only make them better . However that wasn't what B R intended in my opinion but what he wanted was to cover where they wanted to run and pass ball to, but getting stuck in and challenging every mood based on past performances would result in one thing and that is a number of red cards for Celtic players. These super Barcelona players are very adept at diving and rolling over and conning referees . I am sure Brendan rightly spoke about that . A straight red card would have put a Celtic player out of one or two games against our best hope the Germans as well as City.

'Acceptance of our own limitations'-- that phrase sticks for me and its sprawled all over our collective comments for years now. I'm now aspiration its, but let's be in it to have a go, like the Lisbon lions, or like Leicester.

16 Sep 2016 22:01:54
Many realistic Celtic supporter will use the term accepting, a heavy defeat against a team like Barcelona . There is no comparison between the money Leicester spent over the last 2 seasons and we have spent .
We can all be positive before a match against any team, but no matter how we are beaten if we have a twitter of wit , we know that by and large when we play the best in the world, we are only going to win once in ten and that's when everything goes right and nothing wrong.
