Fouls: Barcelona 9 Celtic 3

Tells you all you need to know. Stood off them, let them play their own game, didn't put a foot in, showed them too much respect.

This could be the way it goes for us in Europe under BR, his love for beautiful football could cost us. that's why we did so well under Lennon in Europe, he made sure every player got stuck in.

Wouldnt swap BR for anyone but hope he can change his principles or we'll get a hiding in every game.

Au don't think B R principles will get us a hiding in every game . This season so far we have had a hiding once and the team that we were trying to play against have often demonstrated their ability to get anyone who gets too close and puts in a tackle sent off We committed one foul within 25 yds of our goals and it created a goal
At least we haven't weaken our team for our next outing by having players sent off tonight.

LM67 not sure if you are aware, Lennons last CL campaign we got beat 6-1 off Barcelona at Nou Camp. Utter bollocks to suggest that Lennon would of done better tonight facing possibly the best front line in europe- Messi, Neymar and Suarez. Think a lot of better class teams than us will take a hiding this season off Barcelona. Are you going to write to them and say "Sign Lenny from Hibs? Great manager in europe! "

Also that season we gained 3 points from 18, scored 3 goals 14 against in a far easier group than we have now. Great campaign!

This is one of the softest Celtic sides I have ever seen right through the side and the defenders/ midfield almost have an 'after you Claude' way about them with few exceptions.
No one is asking for hatchet men or thugs like some teams prefer, but where's leadership of a McNeill or the Paul Elliot/ Bobo Balde stopper or the Brogan/ McGrain/ Boyd tacklers and the battling, grafting midfielders like Auld, McLeod, Aitken, Ledley or Wanyama. ( I could give more examples)
Scott Brown does at least a double shift when Bitton plays and I know Barcelona were scintillating at times but any of our goalkeepers in the past ten years would have saved at least a couple of them and possibly BR has made a serious mistake signing De Vries.
The back 5 was not working as a unit and the right side was particularly ineffective, but we persevered and got punished.
Obviously the heads will go down as we see when we roll over someone like that, but we should at least put up a fight and show some pride in that jersey and what it represents.
Seen a lot of heavy defeats over the decades that made me angry, disappointed, embarrassed or even distraught; but never felt as physically sick as I did watching us lose seven goals to zero.

so we kick them all over the park, get beat and pick up needless yellows - or even reds and get humped anyway AND have players banned for the "more important" games. AND our great rep gets tarnished as we kicked them all over the park.

I actually think the players accepted their fate and didn't kill themselves tonight - big game at weekend.

I was 11 in 67 so you would of been happy if it was 7-1 tonight? One of the worst statements i have ever heard! End of the day we had no chance tonight at Nou Camp aganist them. They are streets ahead of us and no matter who was captain, would not have made slightest difference.

14 Sep 2016 08:47:18
I don't think anyone suggested that we should kick them up and down the park but let's put a couple of markers in to let them know we're there on the pitch. I was embarrassed how easily we capitulated in the second half and even more embarrassed how many people are willing to "take it on the chin". 7 nil for fecks sake!

DesH nobody likes getting hammered, but end of the day we were up against 3 strikers that scored 90 of their teams 112 league goals last season. That and fact they done this in a league far stronger than SPL that regularly destroyed teams at least 5-0 last season.

I get the impression you think cause we are in CL we are a CL standard team. We are not, We are Europa league standard. I personally think it won't be long untill scottish football loses CL place.

DN30; where and when did I say I would have been happy with a 7-1?
My point was our lack of fight, closing down, covering and tackling and the fact I had just watched my teams biggest ever defeat in my lifetime - while others are admiring the opposition and praising our capitulation - because it was Barcelona.
We have faced Europe's best many times and lost, but I have never seen a Celtic side stand off and surrender without any resistance.
As I said I have seen many heavy defeats in all competitions over the decades, but this seven goal thrashing hurts the most and there is no excuse or consolation that will stop me feeling this bad.

Ffs, we are at the show now, what does everyone expect? Did not expect us to get destroyed but it is what it is, we are where want to be.

14 Sep 2016 13:33:41
Well your impressions wrong DH30. I am totally aware of our place in football and the Champions league isn't one of them. I'm amazed though how many people are taking this result so well. 7 nil for goodness sake in a major embarrassment in anyone's book. It doesn't matter that we were playing Barcelona. Far to much respect and hardly a tackle of any notice.
