Just wanted to dispel a myth about the last Celtic v Sevco game.

Yes we lost the game on penalties and yes they had most of the possession. However, most people don't realise that our game plan that day was to give them possession and hit them on the counter attack.

Here are the stats for that match:

Sevco: 10 shots, 3 on target, 63% possession, 10 corners.

Celtic: 26 shots, 10 on target, 37% possession, 9 corners.

What went wrong for us that day was:

1. Boyata bottled it and was like a rabbit caught in head lights. This is when they got their goal. Once he got subbed they hardly troubled our goal keeper. If it were not for a cracking strike from miles out and a dodgy ref decision to give them that throw in, we would have won.

2. Our players did not put enough of the great chances we created away.

3. Some of our players had downed tools for Deila so we were playing with a few players not giving it their all.

Obviously that day they played as well as they could and we had an off day and even then they could not beat us in normal time. Since then they have got worse and we have vastly improved. This is the reason the bookies have them at 4/ 1 to win.

We all know that if we play to our potential we will hand out a pumping and there is nothing they can do to stop that.

I just hope that we put down our marker early and go at them from the first whistle as I don't want to just win, I want to destroy them on the park.

I have to ask, so what? The only thing that matters in this crazy game we all love is wins and loses, nothing else . Do you think it cut any ice with the sevco fans in my work on the Monday morning when I told them we had more shots on target than them? Just like I didn't care when we mauled Barcelona and they told me we only had 20% of possession.

Rab what went wrong was the game plan was completely wrong we surrendered too much possession and let them play their way into the game. Falling behind twice meant we were constantly chasing. It was a disastrous decision by Delia and I am so glad he is not in charge tomorrow. By the way I don't think there was a. Celtic player no trying during that game.

They didn't play themselves into the game, as I pointed out already we were set up to play counter attacking football and once Boyata went off we stifled them.

They had 3 shots on target the whole game, 2 of which were when Boyata was on the park and he was absolute pish that game and you could see the fear in him. Miller had a good chance in the box early on and Gordon saved, then Boyata lost Miller in the box when he got the opener. Once Boyata was off they did not have another shot in our box the whole game. So I don't know how you can say we got the tactics wrong as we were limiting them to shots from outside the box and hitting them on the break.

If you actually look at chances, Griffiths hit the post and then later hit the bar and Roberts missed that absolute sitter. If we had taken our chances we would have beaten them.

Yes I know all that matters is winning but I just wanted to dispel the myth that they played us off the park.

For me it will always be an embarrassing and almost humiliating defeat and the players on the day let the club, themselves and the support down very badly.
You can point to individual or tactical errors but the attitude and passion between the sides were night and day.
RD made mistakes and came up short and it cost him his job, but there are a few players (still at the club) who well and truly 'sold the jerseys' that day and they owe the club and the fans a great deal better.

I agree that some of the players really let us down that day, which I alluded to in point 3 in the original post. I also agree that the players from that day owe us and need to put them to the sword tomorrow.

However, it was not a humiliating defeat as you suggest as we only got done on penalties and was to the team with the second largest budget in Scotland. Obviously it is always hard to take as most of us work with sevco fans and need to listen to their pish.

@rabmac - BR stated recently that Rangers were the better team over the course of the match. Surely you aren't turning on the messiah and calling him a liar?

Jack he also pointed it out it will be a very different celtic team to the one that got beat on pens.
Affectively he's saying this team is far better and will be much better equipped to smash your mob mentally and ability wise.

BR has a bit of class about him and he's not going to directly rip the last manager, you will see that over the course of the season when your looking up towards 1st place.

@UninJack - You probably were the better team on the day but a below par Celtic had more than enough chances to win the game. However, we certainly were not played off the park, despite being poor. As I said you played as well as you could have and we played well below par.

@rabmac - surely that's what football is all about? Taking your chances? If Celtic have another nightmare and Rangers score with a deflection of KM's arse, I'll still be a happy man.
