Not often I agree with the scribes of the Sunday Mail but this time Micheal Gannon has got it spot on saying our fans will drop our club in deep doo doo if they fly Palestinian flags on Wednesday. Gannon is right in saying that after numerous fines from UEFA in last few years UEFA might well close stands at CP if our fans fall full of their rules again. This is highly worrying so please fellow Tim's, DO NOT bring Palestinian flags and please keep any chants that could be construed as political by UEFA out of Paradise come Wednesday. Yours in Celtic.

Political in the same way that supporting Mandela was 30 years back. You're probably right to say that we shouldn't do it there because of recent form from some fans in Europe and the implications. That said, I would probably feel more awkward in the home leg if there wasnt at least one Palestine flag among the crowd (even a wee one with one fan) than if we completely toed the line. People using it as some kind of red rag is shabby to say the least but I would like to think there would be a decent amount of supporters who would want to show solidarity with the people of Palestine by flying their colours.

14 Aug 2016 18:56:33
Why would someone in Glasgow watching a Celtic game feel the need to show solidarity with Palestine?

14 Aug 2016 19:06:59
Our fans wave Palestine flags at every match. Where do you draw the line with what's political and what's not? The club waves an Irish Tricolor above the stadium so should we get fined for that too? We seem to be far too easy a target for these bullies! As that famous banner said: Fxxx UEFA.

14 Aug 2016 19:11:10
Guys I have to say, We really don`t need Uefa on our backs with this issue. Leave the flags or we could end up getting booted out.
That will only hurt our club in more ways than 1.
We bring OUR club into disrepute as will make us an easy target for Uefa.

14 Aug 2016 19:30:51
Guys, the common sense approach is the easiest and creates no hassle. It goes something like this:
If waving Palestinian flags is likely to incite trouble of any kind then don't do it. It really is that simple.
We fly an Irish tricolour because it represents the roots of our club. It isn't a political statement.
We have zero connection with Palestine, and like has often been said here before, if someone has political-religious-or whatever beliefs then there's no problem with that. Celtic Park is not the venue to voice or display those opinions. We are a football club and football is a sport. How many times do some people have to be told that sport and religion and politics and martyrdom DO NOT mix.

Hail Hail.

A club that claims to have risen out of oppression must see this is more than a symbolic gesture but a moral act of solidarity with those living under aparteit rule, at least according to the UN. And to proscribe the flags is itself a political act, so don't start with the no politics at UEFA. If they fine us, pay the fine. Simples.

WALOB!

Your comment above says, "I would like to think there would be a decent amount of supporters who would want to show solidarity with the people of Palestine by flying their colours. "

Why is this relevant to us who want to watch our team. If you have a never-ending desire to support the people of Palestine then you could start by moving there.

14 Aug 2016 19:40:21
Celtic could be asked to play behind closed doors if there is any attempt to stage a pro-Palestinian demonstration. Any banner that is deemed to express a political opinion will be considered to have breached the rules. That is UEFAs official position. I don't think a fine or playing behind closed doors should we qualify is something any Celtic fan would want to see although I'm sure many of those who are highlighting the warning hope we shoot ourselves in the foot. Many of us have our views on the Israel-Palestine situation and there are various platforms to make our views known and express our political opinion. Celtic park this Wednesday isn't that time. I hope some supporters don't put their right to express their opinion before the interests of Celtic FC. The 'cause' on Wednesday night is qualification for the Champions League.

14 Aug 2016 20:17:07
People on here are more worried about seeing their football match than highlighting the atrocities the Palestinian people are subjected to on a daily basis through the oppressive nation of Israel who are gradually taking the Palestine land and locking the Palestinian people in the worlds largest open air prison but hey ho what's that got to do with some guy in Glasgow watching a football game.

14 Aug 2016 20:23:14
Did hamburg get any discipline when they were flying the butchers apron in our faces. Doubt it. Why would celtic? All uefa have to do is take a look at past games to see the Palestine flag is at most if not all our games. Why should the fans that feel the need to fly it change because of the opposition? Anyone planning on taking one probably has strong views that won't be changed anyway. If anyone wasn't planning on taking one and doesn't have any other reason than to antagonise other fans will be too daft to get thru to. So what's the point in asking them not to. Fill your boots bhoys, let Pl worry about the fines, they won't make us play behind closed doors for flying a flag .

14 Aug 2016 20:25:39
Guys, I just see it as something that isn't wrong especially if we do it on home turf (recognise all the reasons for not doing it over there) . Uefa might say it's the wrong thing to do, doesn't make it so. I'm not stupid enough to say it should be done no matter what but I would like us to show support for a nation who needs it.

14 Aug 2016 20:31:57
Why would anyone take a Palestine flag to a game of football.

UEFA aside do these people not realise the dangers they might bring upon our travelling support in Israel.

14 Aug 2016 20:40:45
Won't be a fine this time. Stick on that CP will get closed for next Euro game. Can t h e freedom fighters writing on this forum directly or indirectly in support of flying the Palestinian flag on Wednesday not see this? ScoTtish media and fans of the new club will be watching and hoping that we shoot ourselves in the foot over this. PLEASE do not make their day. Support Celtic. By all means fly the tricolour and the Saltire, flags that have a legitimate connection to our club and fans. Hail hail. YNWA!

14 Aug 2016 20:45:28
To make a stance Stan. It's as simple as that. Anyone travelling to Israel is putting themselves in danger, a lot our fans have left wing views and it's well known worldwide that many support the Palestinian cause. Anyone that normally flys the flag should do so on Wednesday, and if they're mad enough to travel to the away leg they should fly it there aswell.

14 Aug 2016 20:47:57
Would it not make more sense for any travelling supporters who felt strongly enough to fly the flag at the away game, as they would be doing it in Israel, I have no idea if this Israeli team supports the oppression of the Palestinian people or are against it, they are a football team not a representative of Israeli government propaganda.

14 Aug 2016 20:50:52
Man, I saw it and acknowledged several times. Wish I had t bothered, anyway Ajer looks handy.

14 Aug 2016 21:00:48
Haha aye he does davie but he's got a Palestinian flag pinned to his bedroom wall.

14 Aug 2016 21:04:44
Stephbhoy, Aye but none of them will be at George Square waving their flags on Thursday morning or Sunday evening. I was 6 years over there and have visited both yet have no wish whatsoever to wave either flag at Celtic Park. If these people want to show their support they should go do it elsewhere, better still go do it over there if its so much of a concern to them.

14 Aug 2016 21:23:58
Its nothing to do with us. Personally I sympathise with Palestine people's plight, but don't own or intend to own the flag so I won't be flying one at any game. But the fans that do fly it at games would be weak not to do it at this tie. If your view is strong enough to have bought the flag and flew it at previous games then who is anyone to tell you otherwise, uefa or fellow fans.

14 Aug 2016 21:26:38
have lost a lot of respect for a few on here reading these posts, let's not show solidarity and recognise the hurt of the oppressed Palestinians while buying products manufactured or stored on there stolen lands, I mean c, mon? Best fans in the world? Let's show it? As for OP is he an Israeli by any chance. Surely they couldn't charge us for waving flags to show support for a people being mercilessly tortured both physically and mentally what would there case be? .

14 Aug 2016 21:50:36
This kind of thing seems to be getting worse at parkhead, the green brigade seem to be wanting to jump on anything political and me for one think most of the stuff is not really connected to celtic or football.

14 Aug 2016 21:59:40
Why any Celtic supporter would feel the need to use our club to express there own political views is beyond me. Yes I sympathise with the Palestinians but at no time has it ever occurred to me to wave a flag in support at a Celtic game. There's so many more constructive ways to show your support for Palestinians and others than doing it at a football match.

14 Aug 2016 22:05:43
People on this page have a right to view their opinions no problem with that but some of these people are the same ones who want better players here as we all do getting the club fined or playing behind closed doors only takes away funds that could be used towards those better players. so come on use a bit of common sense and keep your thoughts to yourselves flying a flag ain't going to change things over there.

14 Aug 2016 22:08:51
Gannon has printed this story as he knows a Palestinian flag is usually visible at most home games. He is setting us up and making everyone else who wouldn't normally be interested just that. Arming the hordes who always are and obsess with our club. He has even decided on our punishment. If you repeat it enough.

14 Aug 2016 22:11:49
Tbf. What harm does a flag do? i'm irish and don't get offended by a British flag. Can a Palestinian celtic fan not atrend the match? Could an American not take a flag along? Maybe i will take a french flag as a dembele fan. Or may i offend someone?

People need to wise up and stop getting offended by a colour.

14 Aug 2016 22:24:04
If you want to do it lay the flags out corner to corner outside the ground or a wee bit away and save the grief. If it's not in the ground then they can't touch us. Let them print what they want.
Anyone smell another tabloid shake up? There are hundreds of football crimes but do you think it is a coincidence that the biton story got the coverage it did? It was a singular little tw@t with a few posts. I've read worse or just as bad in the DR comments section before they reigned it in.

14 Aug 2016 22:30:52
Firstly, I couldn't care less what that pr1ck gammon has to say. There seems to be a big percentage of posters arguing that we should fly the Palestinian flags and pay the fines etc. What I don't understand is that there is 168 hours in the week but they feel the need to make their stand on the 2 hours that they are at Parkhead. What are they doing to show their backing in the other 166 hours. Also it's easy to say do what we want and pay the fine when it's not you who has to pay it. We are a football club with Irish origins and flying the flags will have zero effect on the Palastinian situation.

14 Aug 2016 22:36:37
anyone at the game count the flags if they appear and let's see what they report.

15 Aug 2016 08:27:24
Probably get my face ripped off here but we should keep politics out of football, do you remember the selfie with the North and South Korean athletes recently. Sport should transcend politics unite not devide.
