I like young roberts. Fair enough he is on loan and we're nurturing someone else's talent but i think he will offer a lot next season. some of paddys magic was priceless. Agree with the rest bang on.

Jonace

Now name me the players from our youth teams from that period who have left and gone on to have even a half decent career.

I will give you Andrew Robertson and probably Mulgrew as a start. I'm interested to know of others.

Can't disagree with most of them but Hinkel was a great player for us.

01 May 2016 09:49:13
You could add Rasmussen, Rogne, Blackman and Amido Balde to that and although one or two of them may have done a job, it does highlight the flaws in our scouting and recruitment 'policy' and the amount of money we have just thrown away for very little dividend.

Hinkle was very good player and even though he trailed off guidettI score a good amount of goals.

01 May 2016 10:18:35
Plus didn't we make a good profit of Fox after half a season

01 May 2016 10:35:03
Wee N'geumo was good. Hinkel Rogne no the worst but your right most of em duds most unforgivable for me was Park scouring Europe for the class act striker and coming back with balde bangura and pukki.

01 May 2016 11:40:26
Take out hinkle mccourt guidetti and simonovic and I agree with the rest.

01 May 2016 11:48:14
I agree with most but I see a lot in CKR and think if played through the middle would be a superb partner for wee Leigh.

I don't agree with many of these (for various reasons) but the sentiment and all round point is spot on: we have spunked an awful lot of money, on an awful lot of average players, and we need to do better.

01 May 2016 14:38:52
I'm sure there's a decent XI in there somewhere if you were to have them at different times in their careers lol. Some of them were actually good for us, some were good for other clubs and on the face weren't bad signings, just unfortunate ones imo. But aye, there's a heck of a lot of bad signings there, some I think my mind had tried to forget. Carlton cole for example.

the poetic patient

You say we have spunked an awful lot of money on a lot of average players and that we need to do better. I don't think that its fair to say that we volunteered funds for average players in the belief that they would stay average. CFC profile is such these days (and we're not alone here) whereby we cannot get any half decent player from any half decent league (with decent visibility) because the bigger clubs (or the smaller clubs in bigger/ higher profile leagues) can draw upon vast financial resources to buy everything and anything "above average" and pay them twice as much as we can afford (just to sit on the bench or to loan them out again) .

How do CFC do better with limited funds and an ever decreasing pond of genuine potential and talent when the likes of Watford, M'Boro, Burnley, Stoke, Forest and Derby can out muscle us financially? From time to time, there will be players who "are good" who accept that a trip to CFC will be good for the CV and a decent stepping stone to even bigger things, IE from no-name club to CFC to top 12 in EPL as opposed to a squad player (on decent wages) with a no-name club in EPL or Championship with no prospect of European football. But these "hungry" high potential types are very hard to come by, IE those who don't know the depths of their own talent and who are happy to "risk" their career (financial wise) on a de-tour via the East End of Glasgow.

Is that not the issue?

Paradise, are you familiar with the work of Ernest Hemmingway? He had a lot to say about elaborate ornamentation that you may find interesting.

"You say we have spunked an awful lot of money on a lot of average players and that we need to do better. "

Actually, what I said was:

"The sentiment and all round point is spot on: we have spunked an awful lot of money, on an awful lot of average players, and we need to do better. "

That is not the same thing. The comma indicated that the "need to do better" part was talking about the aforementioned sentiment. I have no doubt that CFC are trying to buy players who can/ will improve - which I assume is the general point you are trying to make by claiming it's unfair of me to suggest that they are volunteering funds "for average players in the belief that they would stay average. " But the trying part of that doesn't negate the many (many) failures listed above. Are you saying that there haven't been failures? Are you suggesting that the list above is plethora of success stories? We all know what market Celtic are operating in - but again, that doesn't negate the failures and wasted money.

I honestly don't see what most of your post has to do with my general agreement about a list of players who have failed at the club. A list I already said I didn't completely agree with, in terms of 100% of the players mentioned.

Further to that, I couldn't comment because it seems like you are going out your way to state the obvious, agree AND be obtuse - which is quite an achievement, given the contradictory elements involved.

Of course when you play football in artic conditions most of the season, in a league if known for anything it is for the cheating and fraud by Rangers and when you have limited transfer funds it's inevitable that many won't work out . However if we put the cost of all our transfers particular foreign and then added up the sale price we got for them that we have sold Virgil, Forrester, Victor, Ki, and the many more, you have my drift . We haven't wasted that much money as we have recouped it .
However I would prefer far less players bought and more of own brought through.

01 May 2016 23:38:50
Honestly, I've heard it all now. It was the weather and Rangers that were to blame for Bangura and Balde's ability, or lack there of. I'm pretty sure we can blame the SFA for Mouyokolo's glass knee/ s - and I know Shay Logan is to blame for Tonev being useless. Yep. Everyone's fault but ours.

03 May 2016 00:58:22
Pp u misunderstood me, I was merely pointing out that it isn't easy attracting people to play in Scotland . I suppose u think that players prefer Scotland and it's weather conditions to Spain . I remember us signing Sceptovic and he wouldn't kick a ball for us but is scoring reasonably often in a Southern European League . There might be a reason why Italy Spain etc have better players than us and Norway etc.

03 May 2016 01:54:31
So does Ukraine. It's got less to do with the weather, and more to do with money. But again, this isn't the point. None of this excuse how poor our recruitment has been. You need only look at the majority of that list.
