If Leicester can have a Ranieri why can't Celtic.
22million his teams value, slaughtering a team with 1 player bought for 30 million. And it isn't a 1 off, have to be considered real contenders now.

Agree0 Disagree1

Just watched the Leicester game and I thought that was type of team performance we would be watching when Ronnie came in. Great season for Leicester and would love it if they managed to win the league.

Should Klopp, Wenger, Hiddink, LVG, Pochettino, Koeman and Martinez all be sacked because they have a lower level team outperforming them?

Koeman should be the benchmark for a club like Celtic, not some sports guru that got lucky in a part time league.

With the exception of Arsenal who have stuck by Wenger, most of the other top clubs have all sacked managers in recent years.
However, it's apples and oranges comparing them with us, as we are in a piss-poor league, with a vast advantage of revenue, facilities and resources and have a history and expectancy of success - with style.
Since 2012, our advantage was extended with a guaranteed route to the financially rewarding CL and the club have chosen to opt out.
The running of the club since WGS left seems to be a policy of treading water until Sevco eventually arrive - and Old Firm mark2 will generate cash, publicity and interest - Too late for tears.
They're years behind and a pay-day loan away from another admin.

Anyway, back to us:-
Selling any prized asset and replacing with basic-brand economy to the point where we have regressed to the standard that befits the atrocious level of our league - and not the standard of quality that is expected and enjoyed by Celtic supporters who find they are getting a lot less for their cash than is acceptable.
The current squad are very short of class, personality, character and flair and our defence is the poorest for many years.
The people who are responsible for identifying talent, spotting star quality and attracting Celtic class players have been failing to do that in recent years and we have become ordinary and lazy.

Jungle Jim.

The problem is actually more simple than that

It is COMPLACENCY
It is also part ATTITUDINAL

Leicester sacked their manager too

Sometimes ( from time to time) you can inadvertently assemble a core / crop of players who aren't terribly good. RDs issue is that his exposure to good PROS who are good enough for CFC or any club that has CL aspirations ( or even EL aspirations ) is very limited

Take OG Solkskaer. He may not have the man to man management credentials, or the ability to deliver a rousing lecture BUT he was exposed to TOP PROS and knows the difference between a good player and an effective player and the tools required to be effective at that level ( IE CL or EL level )

CFC got a coach who outperformed expectations in a league that is even more irrelevant than our own. His achievement was outstanding but nonetheless he didn't need to deal with pre madonnas or players transferring for big fees and big weekly wages

Whilst not his fault, he arrived out of his depth or at the very least out of his comfort zone. That does not mean he couldn't succeed. Anything is possible

That said, we can only judge him on the progress he and CFC have made. His progression can only manifest in ( and thus be judged on ) how we view our team. If we see no progress then there is no progress

We need to take trophies away from any computation because the real issue is

Progress
Improvement
Positive strides
Players values increasing ( in our model )

RD was always going to arrive like a fish out of water. In a normal job when a guy on the shop floor gets a management job it is a DIfFERENT job and the person needs time to adjust and adapt. However, now and again, the perceived potential and hoped for progress doesn't crystallise ( or play out ) and you have to September back and say " okay it was a gamble / a good idea based on a series of assumptions " but it hasn't worked out

The mistake is to expect a different result if the person that is failing continues to do what they are doing without adapting

It is possible that RD is developing BUT that his on the job learning has lost the dressing room. His mistakes have left players worse off and low in confidence. That will take a massive turnaround in fortune

CFC were entitled to go down the non Celtic minded managerial / hands on coach road but it was a gamble

There is now a real concern about the clubs soul. There is a seeping and open wound that could crucify us and that is called

Indifference

The level of detachment between fans and board and manager and players and first team coach and players and between fans themselves could be the real Achilles heel

All we want are players that care and play to their very best and ice their all for a club like no other and the race is most certainly on because we are running the very risk of becoming a club like so many others, going nowhere and romanticising over the past because the future appears so bleak.

Regardless of what manager is doing what, - either under/ over performing, is Ronny the best manager in the whole universe that we could get, obviously not! You don't have to be young, with no experience to be progressive and have good ideas! There are plenty top managers, with experience, European and otherwise who have great ideas and have histories of helping build youth academies etc also! If you had said to me in July that we'd be in this position today, with the season we have had, I would have said impossible! It couldn't have went any worse! How anyone can think this is cool is beyond comprehension!

06 Feb 2016 18:45:26
I have read people on here saying that Ronny's target every year is to qualify for the group stages of either the Champions league or the Europa league, and as we have been in the Europa league for the last 2 years then he has achieved his targets.
Surely though we have been in the Europa league because we have been knocked out of the Champions league, we haven't qualified for it.
I think it's ridiculous that failure is somehow portrayed as success, it shows the contempt the people running the club have for the fans.
They'll be telling us next that finishing in the top 2 is a fine achievement.

Gerry

Good post.

If you also remember we actually only hit into the Europa League in his first season because we got a 3 0 win over Legia Warsaw. Without that we would have been out of Europe completely.

There is no question that anytime we get top money currently £10m+ for a player who cost £2/ 3m but we will replace the £10m + player by a player at half the price or less . I can never foresee the time that won't happen .
We won't raise our wage structure to equate to a £10m + player . The board in its wisdom after getting advice from our accountants feel that level of wages is impossible to maintain .
All that we can hope for is to get better value in the money we are spending on buying players or bringing players through the academy.
