Big week for us with 2 cup games and league game against our main rivals.

If we win them all then I would say we pretty much have the league cup and league in the bag and are a step closer to the Scottish cup.

Really hope we do the treble this season (not that I actually care about the cups) just so Deila shows his detractors that he does have what it takes to be a success at Celtic. However, even if he does win the treble I bet some people will still slate him.

Agree1 Disagree1

Yeah good one rab everything in the Ronny garden is rosy because the pressure is off with no Europe to deal with. Win the treble and some will be saying he's one of the greats to manage Celtic. Just a pity it takes us till December before the swagger returns I've no doubt he'll be out fist pumping soon or at least until July.

The pressure is never off when you are the manager of Celtic, surely you know that?

If we lose to any of Aberdeen, Ross County or EK, there will be lots of people going into meltdown and screaming for his head on a stick.

Now, you are entirely entitled to not rate Deila and believe it or not I also think he has something to prove when it comes to Europe. However, there is much of what he does that I am happy with and I like to think that I don't over react when we lose a game I had hoped to win (unlike some) .

27 Jan 2016 13:27:27
My god I didn't even consider getting beat by ek would that not merit a meltdown and the sack rab?

27 Jan 2016 13:44:21
I just don't understand why you don't care about the cups tbh.

27 Jan 2016 14:20:26
If you are asking me if I would sack him for losing against ICT, then my answer is no.

However, in the unlikely event we did lose I would expect him to be under major pressure and would not be surprised to see him sacked.

27 Jan 2016 14:22:58
The only time I care about the cup games is when we play Rangers or we already have the double wrapped up.

The way I see it is that when we win the cup my euphoria is short lived and I would be hard pushed to recall most of the teams we have beaten in finals (apart from Rangers) . However, for any other team outwith Celtic and Rangers, it is a massive deal for them and they will remember it for the rest of their lives, so I don;t grudge these guys some nice memories as I already have loads from supporting Celtic.

Now you don't have to agree, m I was merely explaining my opinion.

27 Jan 2016 14:41:15
I said ek not ict and it just re-emphasises some people will never see any fault in Ronny even if the most embarrassing result in our history was to occur, which I doubt will happen but you wouldn't sack him🤔

27 Jan 2016 15:06:43
I knew you meant EK and I just typed the wrong team (obviously thinking of a past embarrassment) .

The thing is even the greatest managers in history have bad days and have suffered shock defeats.

The reason I said I would not sack him is that I would put the result in perspective and I think he has done more good than bad.

Going on what Lawwell has said publicly the remit of the Celtic manager is to win the league and qualify for either the CL or Europa group stages. Now you may disagree and expect more but you cannot argue that Ronnie has met the target every time and I fully expect him to win the league again this year. Do you not think it would be harsh to sack someone who was meeting the targets you set him?

27 Jan 2016 15:50:57
No I wouldn't think it harsh to sack him for not beating East Kilbride I would demand it.

27 Jan 2016 16:01:29
Obviously a difference of opinions. On one hand you have me, who is prepared to overlook individual results as long as the manager is achieving his overall goal.

On the other hand you have yourself, who is prepared to overlook all the good things the manager has done and just judge him on a single result.

27 Jan 2016 16:31:17
Rab Mac he must have a remit to actually qualify for CL football st least once every 3 years? We get an opportunity to play in CL qualifiers each year but there is little point in winning the league and then constantly failing to qualify in CL. What other team in Europe get that chance. We find it difficult to bring players into SPL but if you can offer them CL football that is the sweetener. Without that it's much more difficult to sign better players. So he needs to step up. There are at least 5 managers in SPL that could win the league with our resources so If Ronny wants to be seen as head and shoulders above the rest he needs to do it in Europe. We have the best squad, most money, best facilities and generate more money than any SPL team. Winning the league is not a shock. We were 1/ 66 on at start of season. What does that tell you!

@Johnnymac - Going on what Lawwell himself has said (i. e. our business model is based on qualification of the Europa league group stage at least and the league is our priority) indicates to me that as long as the manager has some form of European football in the group stages and wins the league, then he has met the targets and anything else is a bonus.

Obviously, I am surmising but that is my interpretation of Lawwell's words.

27 Jan 2016 23:13:52
Rabmac your posts are fair too sensible for the majority of posters on here .
He is knocked by some because he hasn't successfully picked his way through the massive number of games from August to early December. Domestic fixtures inter mixed with European games and the entire squad away on International 10 day breaks adding to the congestion . Attaining European football after Christmas season 2014/ 15 should have taken pressure off him and it did with those that mattered .
We certainly have plenty of excitement left this season with the next ten days or just as important as they come . All we can do is keep the faith.

28 Jan 2016 14:48:07
More excuses old bhoy Ronny had to focus on June July and August that was the important part of our season Being ready to beat Malmö. Our domestic challenge comes from partick killie Ross Hamilton and the euro challengers of Aberdeen etc not a major lot to fear when we have a squad twice the size as our rivals is it. Especially as we can make up for any domestic slip. Ps could you tell us what other clubs of similar size to us doesn't deal with Europe and international breaks? Or is it just another lame attempt to defend a poor European campaign again.

28 Jan 2016 18:19:27
QTo the best of my knowledge Jim72 the same teams who have qualifying rounds to play don't always qualify for the Champions League. The standards you set for R D are not attained by any other manager . We have teams who may qualify for a couple of consecutive Champions League campaign and then they fail.
However you deserve better Jim72.

28 Jan 2016 18:57:38
Your right I do deserve better as I expect us to beat Maribor or Malmö or molde every season
