Seen a lot of people suggesting who should be shipped out and I agree with a lot of the names mentioned, Gordon, Mulgrew, Forrest, Commons, Stokes, Borregtier, Scepovic to name a few but who would really want to sign them considering how poor they have been for us. It will be as hard to move these guys on as it will be to get replacements, and where do we even start there?? The prospect of playing for Celtic seems to get less attractive to players every year, mainly due to finances admittedly. For me the signing policy needs to be ammended. The idea of buying potential and developing them to sell on for a profit is the right idea but that should not be the case with every signing we make. I think we need 4 or 5 older heads with proper experience, even if they are on bigger wages up to say £40k per week, every year I see bosmans that I think could do a job for us. Not guys hitting 35/36 looking for a final payday but someone like Rosenberg was probably not a target due to his age but his experience the other night in the centre forward role was everything we didn't have and very much needed.

I'm not one of these football manager fantasists who can rhyme of a full new starting 11. Does anyone have any ideas on any realistic targets? The only player in the Premiership I would take is Johnny Hayes as a replacement for Forrest, other than that for me no one else is anywhere near the standard we should be aiming for. The boy Barker that ed mentioned sounds promising but I've never seen him play.

Ideas/thoughts?

CW agree with the outs with the exception of Gordon. I know Ed does not like him but he was not at fault for either of the goals the other night and has consistently been our best defensive player since he joined, admittedly with a couple of high profile gaffs
I would add Ambrose and Van Dyke to your list.
I agree 100% with your amendment to signing policy. we do need a couple of older, more experienced heads around the place. the model of moravcek, sutton, hartson come to mind
Rosenberg good example and the guy who played striker for Brugges last night was a good looking experienced guy.Hayes I agree with. would help us and hurt Aberdeen at the same time

The biggest problem is that too many posters are reacting to one desperate bad result . Before Tuesday most of us would have been happy with a goal scoring striker a good commanding centre back and a left back to keep Izzy on his toes .
One desperate bad result shouldn't mean that we need a whole new team . Certainly we need many of our players to play at their best . That didn't happen on Tuesday .

I will throw a name out there Mihai Roman young target man 6ft 3'' looks affordable and a decent player

Gordon was definitely at fault for both goals he's an excellent shot stopper but as far as a cross into box he is hopless

Old Bhoy
Agree there is some over reaction
However, moving out Mulgrew ( too slow ), Forrest ( constant under achiever AND injury prone, Commons ( past it ) Stokes ( not good enough ) Dirk ( over rated and always injured and even when not is never picked ) and Scepovic who never gets a game will drive some transfer fees and free up wage budget.
Problem is only a few days to make it happen so will not happen

I don't get the hype with Gordon and think he makes a lot of basic errors that are often overlooked by fans and the press when reporting on games, he is not the worst keeper I have ever seen in a Celtic jersey but for me he has cost us big time over the last year or so and we should look to strengthen in that area.
My post isn't so much on the back of Tuesday I just feel we have implemented a business model over the last 3 or 4 years of buying potential to sell on for profit but it seems every player we sign has to fit that model. I don't think it does and the loss of £40M or so in 2 seasons from missing out on CL football suggests a tweak here or there might be worth it, the wage cap for instance is holding us back in terms of signing targets and not signing players who have little or no resale value is a bit naive but that's just my opinion. I think we have a really good young manager with some really good players, Brown, GMS, Lustig, Armstrong, Biton, and for now VVD. 3 or 4 quality signings and in my opinion we could do well in Europe.

{Ed007's Note - I've said since Gordon signed he wasn't good enough to be CFC's No.1 and nothing that has happened to change my mind, he's let us down in every big game he's played. I don't even think he is a good shot stopper any more, since he joined us he just parries the ball back into the danger area, a good shot stopper doesn't do that, they'll knock the ball away from danger, not help create more.}

Have to agree with that Ed on the point about parrying the ball back out into the danger area, the most obvious flaw in his goal keeping and then he's having to make an even better save than the first to prevent a goal when all he had to do was palm it out wide for a corner(Although corners these days are like giving penalties away for us atm).

Surely Stevie Woods should be sorting this out? He improved Forster immensely. Gordon is also is not commanding enough in the box at corners, could have easily came to try and punch both corners away we conceded in Malmo as both were delivered into the 6 yard box, should be going through players for the ball keepers are always given extra protection by the refs these days.

He isn't a terrible keeper but nowhere near Boruc and Forster heights. Still though I feel there is far worse outfield players we need to get shot of first before even rethinking the GK position.

{Ed007's Note - I thought I was the only one who was seeing it with Gordon, it was like hitting my head against a brick wall at times.}

I guess you didn't like Gordons double save in Malmo Ed? I did laugh at that as you always say that's his biggest weakness

{Ed007's Note - Is that the Malmo game we lost 2-0?}

28 Aug 2015 21:03:46
Aye. All the heroics from his mistakes mean nothing when he can't command his area and clear 2 simple corners

{Ed007's Note - Exactly, his overall positioning when he needs to think about anything is diabolical. He has let us down in so many big games it's hard to understand why more people don't see it.}
