Evening ed, a few weeks ago you brought to my attention the T8 android box,I got one a week past tuesday and I can honestly say it's the best £110 I've spent.Once I got it set up with all the best addons installed which took me a while (im a bit stupid when it comes to technical things like that) the viewing is endless , I've got a lot of quality addons for streaming football with zero buffering. I opted for Droidsticks to purchase it from, maybe a bit more expensive than others were selling for but their write ups were very good.Anyone looking for a quality bit of kit for streaming any movies sport events etc I highly recommend and you can get rid of that over priced Sly package and save a fortune

{Ed007's Note - That's the same one I'm planning on getting, Stevie, it's a great deal I reckon. Thanks for letting us know as well mate, I can show my Mrs this as she's not taking some convincing and reckons it's just a new toy I want. I was through at my mates when I first seen it and he's coming here before the game tomorrow to set it up for the Mrs to use while we're out.}

Seems a bit steep just to run kodi on to be able to stream movies, tv shows or football. What advantages does it have over an Amazon Firestick that can run the same application and can cost as little as£20 when on sale at Amazon or £35 from Argos.

{Ed007's Note - This is just what I was told so don't start shouting at me if it's wrong. You can't use Kodi on Amazon Firesticks without getting them jailbroke and they cost £75 off guys where I live that have done it & pre-installed it. If you jailbreak devices you're guarantee is void and Amazon can't help you with any technical advice or updates so for the sake of another £35 equipment and service provided by Droidsticks it's a much better deal for me personally.

Been thinkin for a while of getting rid of sly! Bloody rip off! Where is the best place to get this android box stevies talking about ED? Defo going to get one if is as good as Stevie says! Like u,my missus is taking a bit of convincing to! lol! She'll change her tune when the over priced sky bills stop coming in 😆 would appreciate any info from ED or Stevie 👍🏻👍🏻

{Ed007's Note - I'm no expert on it buddy but I've seen one working and I've spoke to a couple of folk on Twitter that gladly help out if people need any advice. The one I'm going to buy is below, it seems to be the best out there for what I'm looking for and what I've been told, if you're more tech minded you might get something cheaper but for me this is less than 4 months Sly Sports money after it went up to £30 the other day:

Ed001 is right into his gadgets and was looking around Dubai for android boxes as electronics are a lot cheaper over there and he found (and bought) an Intel Compute Stick which basically turns your TV into a PC and would stream games but again they're about £100.}

I see your point ed if that's what guys are charging for them. I am not the best when it comes to technology but managed to side load kodi on to the firestick, don't know if this is the same as jailbreaking it, all I know is you can't download from kodi from the app store so need to load it via the laptop, after that it's just a case of downloading the apps you want for movies, tv, football etc. Not too fussed about warranty for the sake of £35 but I definitely would be if I paid £75. Just for people thinking of buying it to replace sky, it is not something I would personally recommend as all the apps do is give access to links for streams, some links don't work, some are poor quality and it can take a while to find a good link. It can be frustrating when trying to watch live tv /sport. I find kodi is better for viewing movies and tv boxsets as opposed to streaming live tv.

{Ed001's Note - you only need to jailbreak iOS products to get items from outside the app store. WIth Android (a version of which powers the Amazon Fire products) you can simply download to a comp and transfer it to the android product, like you mentioned. I have had this discussion with Ed007, I think he is wasting his money on something that is far too powerful for what it is being used for. Which is why I suggested the Compute Stick to him, which is great if you are stuck in hotels as you can just slip it in your pocket when you move from one to another and plug it into the TV and you have a PC. It is a bit slow, the graphics capability is poor, but it will run FM15 and enable me to edit on a big screen instead of lugging a laptop round with me. Which is lucky as the missus borrowed me lappy anyway. The advantage of using a PC, is that all the programmes are designed for use with a big screen, unlike most Android and iOS apps, which are not.}

After reading some comments on here regarding the t8 android players, I decided to do a little research on them.

I had a redundant boxee box just sitting gathering dust and by reading some info was able to upload that with Kodi which has been a godsend no more missing Celtic games over here in Oz. We used to get every Celtic game on Sentanta sports but SPFL must have changed the television rights package for Oz. Now we are back in business.

Thanks ed for filling us in.

I set the whole thing up on my laptop in less than half an hour and it costs nothing then patch it to tv with an hdmi cable and there ya go

{Ed001's Note - and how much was the laptop? Not everyone has one these days. You could do the same with an HDMI cable and phone if you really wanted anyway, but usually people want something they can leave plugged into their TV all the time.}

Loving all these tips as I am the oldest 33year old on the planet at times. Can I ask anyone in the no can I download this kodi onto an exciting android box. At the start of last season I cancelled sky but got it back after 2 months as the streaming quality of the games wasn't great. Think my box runs xbmc

{Ed001's Note - kodi is available for Windows, Android and iOS. It is an app that can be downloaded for any of those platforms and should run on pretty much any box running one of those operating systems. It is only a media player mate, it won't magically transform your box and make it suddenly stream all sorts of great streams. You still have to find the streams, though something like Mobdro can help with streaming of Sly channels.}

Thanks for that ed. I already find streams in sites like sports devil or ls hunter. The box I use cost me 30 from amzon. Do you feel the more expensive boxes will produce better quality streams or links to better sites. Or do you think that I am just looking in the wrong place for my streams and even a cheap box when linked to the correct site will produce the same results.

{Ed001's Note - the box will not improve the quality of the streams, so long as you have a quick enough connection it is down to the quality of the stream itself. If you have high speed broadband, then you need to look elsewhere for the streams mate. Though I would recommend not running lots of background apps if it is a cheaper box, as that will affect it. Probably best to just literally wipe off any apps you don't use for streaming to make sure.}

As ed says you don't just download kodi from playsore and away you go, but it is fairly simple to set up, youtube tutorials are a great help,Fusion, Xfinity and metalkettle gives you all the addons you'll need, for sport phoenix vdub25 and ukturks I've found to be flawless for streaming sport, so far I've only got 7 or 8 addons enabledd but there's nothing you can't get , Genesis and salts are other great addons for movies and tv boxsets, the advantage of the T8 box is this is what its built for , I've done the searching for streams on the laptop in the past and know how frustrating it is with buffering , freezing etc. You can do all this on a tablet or laptop but I don't believe it will run as smoothly as the T8

{Ed001's Note - it depends on the tablet or laptop. The buffering is usually more down to speed of connection.}

01 Aug 2015 10:51:04
I've got to be honest, was quite excited about a box, but reading through the comments, I'm even more confused 😳, I'll get my 8 year old to deal with it methinks

01 Aug 2015 11:22:37
I have the top speed with Virgin so I don't think I can get much better. My box came with a load of stuff pre loaded so I will delete all that and see if it helps. Thanks for your advice, appreciated

{Ed001's Note - they usually do come loaded with crap. If you find it is still buffering or the quality of stream is poor, then that will be the place you are getting them from. Buffering is purely the speed of connection, if your connection is excellent, then it has to be their end. If the picture quality is poor, then that will be down to them too. It is only if you have trouble with it freezing up that you will need to upgrade the box itself.}

Thanks ed. j Bhoy I'm the same pal I got my box a year ago and haven't got a clue. So I got my sports back on. Still use the box to get to odd movie that can be frustrating for a technophobe like myself to sometimes I can't get movies that are years old. Then the next night I'm watching brand new movies in perfect quality. Stevie thanks for your advice to mate. Wife is out tonight so when kids are put to bed that's my mission to square up the one I've got or order a new t8. Either way I'll try without my sports again.
