I can't understand why teams from this region are allowed to play in CL? You need to get a Visa to go there for a start. What happened to European cross borders only needing a passport? They consider themselves Asian not European. If we ever needed a statement which says European football is not about the fans it's only about the elite clubs then here you have it. Clubs from this region are not expected to qualify anywY so it's a padding exercise from day 1 with no regard for other teams that need to qualify. I think it's a disgrace. 3500 mile trip, go to London to get a Visa? Joke!

{Ed007's Note - Where in Europe is Israel? Remember they said keep politics out of football.....

Ed

Israel is definitely in Europe as they compete in the Eurovision. Debate closed!

{Ed007's Note - They only compete in that because the Israel Broadcasting Authority is a member of the European Broadcasting Union that runs Eurovision.
Canada, Japan, Mexico and the USA are also some of the other members of the EBU but they don't play in UEFA competitions.}

The bible says the 'philistine' next door to me is an Israelite and I'm in Partick; so it must be in Europe.

Only one thing to say to that : Australia

Paradisewon Israel is in Asia. Reason Israeli teams compete in European competitions is historic and religious motivated as many Arab states refused to play against Israel as they were predominately jewish and not muslim. FIFA intervened and permitted Israel to compete in Europe as a result

Staggering incomprehension. Israel is in the middle east, in Palestine, bordering Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt.

But how jolly of FIFA to arbitrate in the boycott (if there was / is one) and uphold their famous egalitarian principles. The reason Arab states wouldn't play Israel is surely the same reason that academics do not visit the Universities, etc: political resistance rather than religious prejudice.

Sorry cavalcanti I meant middle east lol

DN30: not so far out. We used to consider it all the 'orient,' hence Edward Said's great book. Never fear. The bhoys'll be back on the telly soon. We're all going a little stir crazy I reckon. Love your posts btw.

{Ed001's Note - the Middle East is mostly Asia, just like all the other countries in the Middle East are, which is why they compete in the Asian Nations Cup. Why are you bitching at DN30, who is completely correct, Israel is in Asia. The rest of your previous post made sense but that was just ridiculous and shows your lack of comprehension.}
